The Turtle Times Hello Rosebery PS families, It’s been a highly eventful time in the fortnight since I last wrote to you all in “The Turtle Times”. More than anything I’ve been delighted to see so many opportunities emerging for our community to come together and share in the main features of Rosebery PS. I was excited to hear about the performance and behaviour of our students who attended this event at Parliament House. I also thank Ms.Primero and her staff who pulled the excursion together and ensured it ran so smoothly. I know that they also had many complimentary comments about our colourful and attractive uniforms from the staff at other schools, which is always nice to hear. Our first ever Book Character Day was a resounding success and celebrated our work in focusing on literacy development in our school. We value reading skills very highly at RPS and I hope you’ve noticed that this is reflected in the award winning books that students can borrow to read at home. Friday’s assembly and parade of interesting characters was so much fun – and I had sore cheeks from smiling at the effort gone into some of the costumes. Congratulations to all of our prize winners … even the Three Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf who won the staff dress-up contest! Please keep Tuesday 20 th September locked into your diaries for our Back-To-School Festival. This evening will give you a real taste of what our focus on Co-Operative Learning is all about by returning our parents to the role of students – how scary! But the trade-off is that we’ll also have some scrumptious food on offer for everyone, awesome entertainment and a chance to meet other Rosebery PS community members in a fun atmosphere. It promises to be a wonderful event. We are now taking Pre-School enrolments for 2012. If you have a little one who is of age to start formal schooling (turning four in the first half of 2012 or already four years old) then please contact us so we can arrange your initial meeting with myself and get the ball rolling ahead of an exciting 2012 in our Pre-School program. Please remember that students are not arrive at school and be left unsupervised before 7.30am. Our canteen is open for breakfast at this time and direct yard duty supervision of the children commences at 7.50pm. Students who arrive too early for school are clearly in a risky and vulnerable position and we ask you to work with us so that our school is always a very safe place to be. Our Year 6 students participated in their first event this week to assist them in transitioning to the life of Middle Schooling at Rosebery Middle School. We are so fortunate to be such great partners with RMS and I know our students will feel comfortable heading there together for 2012. It’s a sad time in some ways … but also exciting. So we have many plans for how we can celebrate the end of 2011 with these special students. As always, if you have anything you would like to chat about in regard to our school or your child’s progress then myself and our Assistant Principal, Shona Henderson, are available for a cuppa and a chat. Have a great weekend, everyone! Kind regards, Adam Voigt Principal Music. Count Us In. The Turtle Times

Hello Rosebery PS families,

It’s been a highly eventful time in the fortnight since I last wrote to you all in “The Turtle Times”. More than anything I’ve been delighted to see so many opportunities emerging for our community to come together and share in the main features of Rosebery PS.

Background : Originally I am from East Gippsland, Victoria. However over the last 10 years I have lived in Perth WA, Cairns QLD and now Darwin. What do you love about RPS ? I love the beautiful homemade food from the canteen and also the very friendly staff and smiley happy children. What was the last book you read ? Eat, Love, Pray by Elizabeth Gilbert. What’s the funniest thing that has happened to you ? I guess getting Sir Cliff Richard confused with Little Richard was pretty funny. Luckily Sir Cliff Richard is a really down to earth person and he also found it quite funny that I thought he was a short, chubby, dark skinned man. What do you like to do in your spare time ? I like to get outdoors and go 4WDing or swimming. I also enjoy playing netball and dancing around to my favorite music.

ANIMALS IN SCHOOL

Please remember not to bring the dog along when you walk to school in the morning. While we fully understand that this might seem like a wonderful activity and a great way to ensure your pet is getting some exercise, we do have some students who are very anxious about dogs. We also have a handful whose bravery gets the better of them and they may approach a dog, either tied up or on a lead, in an inappropriate way. If they were to make a mistake, we don’t want anyone to have to deal with a nasty bite. Thanks so much for helping us keep our school as a safe environment for all.
