The Trumpet June/July In May, CTK held a “Mind, Body and Spirit” event which featured speak- ers sharing ways to stay healthy this summer in all aspects of our lives. Vicki Ostendorf, trainer from Tri-Fitness in WBL shared about staying physically healthy, Jessica Stern, CTK member and Funeral Director at Mueller Funeral Home shared details about funeral pre-planning, and I shared ways to grow deeper in your relationship with God. During the presentations, a common theme kept popping up: several people talked about how summer throws us off our typical routines. Summer seems like the ideal time to get healthy, with good weather, vacation plans and weekends away approaching, but often the interruptions in our sched- ules challenge our efforts to keep healthy habits. At CTK, we’re making efforts to help you stay con- nected to church even in the midst of the chaos summer can bring. This summer, we’ll shift from our long narrative arc of readings during the program year to diving more deeply into certain books of the Bible, including 5 weeks on the Psalms, 4 weeks on Ephesians, and 4 weeks on Revelation. We understand that summer schedules shift. Remember you can find our sermons and our weekly bulletins on the website (www.ctkwbl.org), so when you can’t be in worship you can still keep up with what’s happening here on Sundays. Each Sunday we publish a devotional in our bulletin with daily readings and prayers, and you can contact our office to receive a copy of the devotional even when you can’t be in worship. We want to keep you connected and growing even in the midst of busy summer schedules! Also, this summer marks a new collaborative effort involving six congregations in our area: Worship on the Farm. On Wednesday evenings from June 7-August 30, a picnic dinner and worship will happen at the Bruentrup Farm in Maplewood. The meal is at 5:30pm and a short worship follows at 6:30pm. It will also offer kids’ activities and special events: June 7 is a pet blessing service, July 5 is a service of prayer for the world (which I will lead) and August 30 will be a block party with the Fleshpots of Egypt, a gospel and bluegrass band. Look for more details in this issue of the Trumpet and at the Worship on the Farm website: http://www.worshiponthefarm.org/. It’s a great option for those who aren’t able to get to church on Sundays, and for those who want to experience a laid-back worship and community experience. Each week you’ll hear a different preacher. Have a safe, blessed and refreshing summer. In May, CTK held a “Mind, Body and Spirit” event which featured speak-

ers sharing ways to stay healthy this summer in all aspects of our lives.

Vicki Ostendorf, trainer from Tri-Fitness in WBL shared about staying

physically healthy, Jessica Stern, CTK member and Funeral Director at

Mueller Funeral Home shared details about funeral pre-planning, and I

shared ways to grow deeper in your relationship with God. During the

presentations, a common theme kept popping up: several people talked

about how summer throws us off our typical routines. Summer seems

like the ideal time to get healthy, with good weather, vacation plans and

weekends away approaching, but often the interruptions in our sched-

ules challenge our efforts to keep healthy habits. At CTK, we’re making efforts to help you stay con-

nected to church even in the midst of the chaos summer can bring.

This summer, we’ll shift from our long narrative arc of readings during the program year to diving more

To the congregation of Christ the King,

It is hard for me to think that in just one short month I will be ending my time here at Christ the King. I have been spending a lot of time in reflection on my five years here at CTK. A lot has happened in that time, and as many of you know, I like de-tails. During my time here, 75 children and youth were touched by the programming at Christ the King and the volunteers that made it happen. 17 youth and four adults were affected by serving and being the hands and feet of Jesus during a mission trip to Philadelphia, Denver, or Rapid City. 11 youth and two adults grew closer to Jesus and experienced God’s good creation in a trip to the Boundary Waters during my time walking alongside you.

There have also been a lot of transitions during my time. We celebrated 27 seniors graduating from high school and moving onto the next steps of their lives’ journeys. We honored graduates with college and graduate degrees as well. We stood be-side and promised to continue to support 23 youth as they affirmed the promises made at their baptism and made statements of their own faith as they were confirmed during my time here.

Summers have been a great time with mission trips and Boundary Water trips. I’ve seen our youth being shaped by learning, service, and fellowship with other White Bear Lake area youth from four summers of Summer BLAST. Our youth helped our young ones learn more about the Bible and the stories within during three Vacation Bible Schools.

As I leave Christ the King, please know the many memories and moments I will take with me onto my next steps of my jour-ney. I will cherish the memories of various youth trips, retreats, and programs. I will remember washing the feet of youth on mission trips and the time my small group spent on top of a very high geographical feature in the Boundary Waters and spoke kind words to each person among us after a great week on the trail.

I will remember with joy the energy that comes with Sunday school and the immense pride I feel for each one of the teachers and helpers each year. It was such great fun to see the relationships grow and blossom with each year. I will remember fondly each Christmas program, as the young ones led us in worshiping the child which came to us from heaven to grow into the man that would pay the ultimate price for our sins.

I will recall conversations with youth in my old and new office – conversations that could sometimes bring up difficult faith questions. I will smile when I think of the times when a child or youth mentioned the way an adult impacted them without them realizing it at the time. How youth, even though they have been confirmed, still look forward to eating with their Confirmation mentors, long into their high school years.

I will remember the Wednesday night chats with Lyn and Elida in the choir office, the fun times playing with the many wonder-ful musicians of the congregation, and the way the congregation supported me through difficult times. As I leave, please know that you, as a family of Christ, have left a large imprint on my heart. I knew this day would come, but leaving CTK is still not an easy thing for me to do.

I will continue to pray for you, as a congregation, as you work through this transition. I will pray for the children and youth, as they continue to grow in their faith. I will pray for all the volunteers that will come forward as they always do, and for the lead-ership, as they discern which steps to take next for the health and growth of the conversation. I ask you to continue to pray for me, as well, as I take a step back from church ministry and discern where it is that God is calling me next. May God con-tinue to bless CTK and all those that are touched by your ministry.

Blessings to you, Laura Gorton

As we anticipate Laura Gorton’s de-parture from CTK this month, the council is discussing options for staff-ing and programming for children, youth and education ministries at CTK. Pastor Jen will begin scheduling table conversations with interested members in June to gather input and begin moving forward in our next di-rection. Fools for Christ

Fools for Christ will hold its 1ST EVER Dinner Theater at Christ the King on Oct 27 & 28, 2017! If you’re in-terested in helping, contact Scott Fre-burg ([email protected]). If you’re interested in acting in the show, we can’t guarantee parts but please let us

Outdoor Signage

Project:

Thanks to a generous donor, we’re

working to update the outdoor signage

at CTK, which will include professional

decals on each outer door as well as a

new sign on the front right-hand corner

of the building (where Liberty Classical

had their sign). We’re excited to get

them installed. Thanks to Gary An-

installation.
