The True Gentleman

Gazette A Triumphant Summer

By Marcus Gahagen, Eminent Archon

Greetings from Indiana Epsilon. Hope this letter reaches you in good

spirits. First, I would like to say thank you to everyone that came to our

Founder’s Day Cookout. The chapter and myself enjoyed having you again. This

past Spring was another semester to remember for Indiana Epsilon as the chapter

reached new heights in community service, philanthropy, scholarship, health and

safety, and alumni relations. This success in these core areas plus hard work and

dedication in others allowed Indiana Epsilon to win its second John O. Moseley

Award for Fraternity Zeal in the past 10 years. This achievement does not happen

overnight. It takes many people and years of excellence to get a chapter in the

right position to win it. Thank you to everyone, who has contributed to the success

of the chapter these past years. We would not be where we are today without you.

Thank you!

With all this being said, Indiana Epsilon is excited for the Fall semester as

we will be hosting various alumni events throughout the semester. We hope you

are able to attend these events. On top of these events, active brothers will be

recruiting the next generation of True Gentlemen and men of Indiana Epsilon.

We have high hopes for recruitment this year and are set on recruiting high

quality individuals. If you have any questions about the Fall semester or wish to

get in contact with the chapter or myself please feel free to do so. Thank you all

again for your continuous support to Sigma Alpha Epsilon Indiana Epsilon and

enhancing our actives’ college experience.

2019 John O. Moseley Award for Fraternity Zeal

The John O. Moseley Award for Fraternity Zeal

recognizes the chapter that best exemplifies a model

chapter in Sigma Alpha Epsilon. This chapter excels in

its operations and brotherhood, fulfilling the vision of

our Founding Fathers and its members and by living the

life of a true gentleman. This chapter goes above and be-

yond expectations and demonstrates true zeal and excite-

ment for the Fraternity, exhibiting a strong bond of

brotherhood.

National’s write-up about INEP after winning the Zeal

Award-

“Our chapter at the University of Evansville demonstrated a strong commitment to bet-

tering their campus and community over the 2018-2019 academic year. The chapter is dedicated

to leadership with every brother being a member of an additional organization or Division 1

sport. During the 2018-2019 academic year, 31 brothers achieved Dean’s List for one or both se-

mesters. The chapter holds philanthropy and service as a high priority with more than 2,300

community service hours from 2018-2019 and more than $8,750 raised for Chemo Buddies and

American Cancer Society Vanderburgh College’s Relay for Life.”

Spring 2019 was fantas-

tic for philanthropies. In March,

Indiana Epsilon held its annual

Paddy Murphy Pageant. Broth-

ers escorted ladies from various

organizations on campus as they

showed off their talents. Pema

Sherpa was crowned the 2019

Paddy Murphy Queen. The event

raised $1,200 for Chemo Bud-

dies.

In April, Car Show 2019

did not disappoint. The rain did

not prevent contestants from reg-

istering. The contestants loved

that Indiana Epsilon was repre-

senting Chemo Buddies with the

utmost pride. The event raised

$800 and gave the chapter even more oppor-

tunities for the next year! Special thanks to

Hulsman Refrigeration and Kenny Kent

Toyota along with many others; without

their generous donations all of this would not

have been possible.

Brother Alumnus Profile

By Austin Hopf, Eminent Alumni Director

This edition of Brother Alum-

nus Profile is on Travis Cochren.

Travis joined Indiana Epsilon in 2012

after completing military training. He

joined because he saw the impact

SAE had on the community and

wanted to experience the lifelong

bonds of brotherhood…also, he

heard chicks dig fraternity men.

Travis's favorite memories were the

serious talks and shenanigans that

went down in Room 33 of the Chap-

ter House. Travis is currently working as a Resource Officer at Pike

Central Middle School, continues to support Indiana Epsilon on the

Alumni Advisory Board, and serves

on the Marketing and Events Lead-

ership Team for Chemo Buddies.

Seeing Double By Austin Hopf, Eminent Chronicler

In 2011, a small chapter from Southern Indiana made its presence

known to Sigma Alpha Epsilon Nationals winning its first John O. Moseley

Award for Fraternity Zeal. Fast Forward 8 years, the chapter has attained

the highest level of achievement a SAE Chapter can possess once again. A lot

has changed over 8 years. One thing has not, there are still true gentlemen at

Indiana Epsilon.

On June 22nd, Indiana Epsilon won

the 2019 John O. Moseley Award for

Fraternity Zeal. This is the second

Zeal award for the chapter in less

than 10 years. Pictured above are

both awards.

Giving Back to Sigma Alpha Epsilon By Rick Shipley, Chapter Advisor

I would like to remind everyone about our National Foundation Chap-

ter Education Fund (CEF) for Indiana Epsilon (INEP). This is a way to make

a tax-deductible donation through National which is only given to INEP, and

it will count towards your SAE National life time giving. The fund is con-

trolled by National, and the funds will be used for only chapter educational

purposes (i.e. to send INEP members to SAE Leadership School, SAE Ritual

School). I’m very pleased to let you know that our CEF has over $27,000. We

received $5000 from National for winning the 2011 and 2019 Zeal Chapter

Award and the rest has been from Alumni donations, interest and dividends.

There are two ways to donate to the INEP CEF:

Option 1 – To make a gift using a credit card, go online and visit National’s

donation page: https://www.sae.net/donate Enter your Information, which in-

cludes pin number. Enter Donation Information, select amount and “Other

Fund” then enter designation of INEP CEF. You can also enter “Indiana Epsi-

lon Chapter Education Fund” in the comments or notes field. Then enter your

Billing Information. Once everything has been entered, then click on “Donate

Now”.

Option 2 - Send a check directly to the SAE Foundation. Please make checks

payable to SAE Foundation and write Indiana Epsilon Chapter Education

Fund or INEP-CEF in the Memo line. Then mail your check to: Sigma Alpha

Epsilon Foundation, 1856 Sheridan Rd, Evanston, IL 60201.

If you have any questions, you can go online and visit National’s Chapter

Funds page: https://www.sae.net/chapterfunds, or contact;

Remember our Creed:

The True Gentleman is the

man whose conduct proceeds

from good will and an acute

sense of propriety, and whose

self-control is equal to all

emergencies; who does not

make the poor man conscious

of his poverty, the obscure

man of his obscurity, or any

man of his inferiority or de-

formity; who is himself hum-

bled if necessity compels him

to humble another; who does

not flatter wealth, cringe be-

fore power, or boast of his

own possessions or achieve-

ments; who speaks with

frankness but always with

sincerity and sympathy;

whose deed follows his word;

who thinks of the rights and

feelings of others, rather than

his own; and who appears

well in any company, a man

with whom honor is sacred

and virtue safe.

House Corporation Update – I would like to inform every-one that we have purchased the 1731 Lincoln Ave house, also known as “The Banana Boat”.
