A Message from Nurse Jensen

Coronoavirus is best prevented by taking the following precautions just like you would do for influ-

enza which is another virus:

Wash your hands often and properly. That means using soap and water and rubbing your

hands together for the length of time it takes you to sing "Happy Birthday" through 2 times. The

acronym, FROG, should be remembered: Friction Rubs Out Germs - so rub those hands together

as you wash them.

Keep your unwashed hands away from your eyes, nose and mouth. Many illnesses get into

the body through one of these 3 areas. It is best not to touch these areas at all, if possible.

Be sure to always cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough with a tissue which is thrown

away or into the crook of your arm - and then wash your hands.

Keep away from people who are sick.

Just as a reminder...

District policy states that students who have a temperature of 100 degrees or greater need to

go/stay home and stay home until the temperature is below 100 degrees for at least 24 hours.

Masks are not to be worn at school. They do not really help with disease prevention, and are best

worn by those who are infected; if a person is infected, they should not be at school.

Hoping we can all stay as healthy as possible. Please contact the nurse if you have any questions.

English

The Eighth Grade Writing SOL will commence on Tuesday, March 10th for the multi-

ple choice exam. Teachers have grammar and punctuation assignments posted in No Red

Ink, so please encourage your student to practice throughout this weekend in final prepa-

ration for his or her SOL exam. Google classroom also has writing activities posted for

your student as well. On Thursday, March 12th, the students will take the SOL Direct Writ-

ing Prompt Essay exam. Students will be preparing during this week by focusing on the

steps in the writing process and typing an essay into No Red Ink using the Guided Essay

component and Peer Edit activity. These assignments are also available for your student

to access this weekend. With the ‘spring forward’ time change this weekend, please

make sure your student gets plenty of rest. He or she will need to be well-rested and

ready to embrace the challenge of this SOL exam on Tuesday. As always, thank you so

much for your continued support throughout this school year. The English teachers greatly

appreciate it!

Congratulations to all the January students of the month!!! Overall English

Classroom assignments.

Students will continue working on SOL

8.7 transformations and will take their

your students to study.

It's that time of year again! The Social Studies Department is sponsoring our annual

food drive. Throughout the month of March, we will be accepting donations for the Food

Bank of Southeastern Virginia. Please consider donating! We may have food in our pantries

and cabinets that we have no intention of eating! Let's get ahead of that spring cleaning! See

a sale at the grocery store? Consider donating! As long as the food isn't perishable or ex-

pired, we'll take it!

Bring any donations to Mrs. Wrenn's room (108) or Ms. Irvin's room (218)! We ap-

preciate your help, and let's make it the best donation drive of all the schools in the district!

Welcome to week 26! This week will be a little different due to SOLs, but 7th

-grade life science students will continue to focus on ecology. Last week stu-

dents learned all about the different components of food chains and webs. This

week we will continue to review and expand upon this information. We will also

be introducing symbiosis. We will be learning about the different relationships

between organisms and how they can be beneficial and harmful.

Science 8 is going to have an amazing Week 26!!! The question is...CAN YOU HEAR ME

NOW??? This week is all about sound, sound waves, how sound happens, “seeing” sound

and how sound travels. We are going on several journeys through hands-on activities,

demonstrations and labs to ensure we can apply all the knowledge we will be introduced to.

CTE The CTE department is looking for students taking

Mrs. Bond's/Mrs. Leigh's classes to join the FBLA-

Future Business Leaders of America! A few ad-

vantages of this student organization are that it aims

to develop future leaders, offers scholarship pro-

grams, and opens unique doors of opportunities.

Performing Arts

The Performing Arts Department would like to welcome Ms. Indya Hairston, a student

teacher from Hampton University, to our Trucker family. She will be observing classes and

team teaching with Ms. Sandie Davis during her term. She will not only be providing Ms. Da-

vis with an additional teacher to enhance instruction, but she also will be bringing in new

ideas to the class that will help to reinforce new and abstract concepts more concretely.
