Summer is here, and with it a welcome time to rest,
to travel, and to spend time with family and friends.
It can be tempting to "take the summer off", even
from our lives of faith and our life in the church!
The Book of Acts tells us what the first Christians
did after all the excitement of Easter and Pentecost,
that "first summer" of the Christian faith. "They
were continually devoting themselves to the
apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking
of bread, and to prayer" (Acts 2:42).
This summer we have the opportunity to continually
devote ourselves to these same things--to Christian
teaching and learning, to fellowship activities
together, to breaking bread at the altar and at picnic
tables, and to praying together and for each other.
+Join us every Sunday at 10:15 for our summer
worship services--with readings focused all
summer long on the parables and teachings of Jesus,
with the breaking of bread in Holy Communion each
week.
+Join us for Vacation Bible School--"Wilderness
Escape"--August 10-14. Invite a neighbor, register
your child, and come be a part of this important
summer ministry.
+Try out a new Bible study this summer, with a
new study of the old favorite "1st Corinthians:
Faith, Hope, and Love" beginning in July, and a
special evening Bible study for adults held during
Vacation Bible School week.
+ Join us for one of our three "Holy Smokes"
cookout potlucks in the alleyway after worship this
summer. We'll grill burgers and Hummels, and
break bread together sitting at one long table! Pools
for kids will be set up, and cards and games for
adults. Sign up to bring a side dish and join us for
these cookouts on the Sundays of July 6, August 24,
and September 7.
What are we up to this summer? Teaching--
Fellowship--Breaking of Bread--Prayers!
God bless your summer!

$100 will cover a child for a month $40 will feed our boys for a week
$25 – well, we are looking into the question:
what will it take to get a girl into school?
What will it take to keep her in school?
Thank you!
Simon’s House – A Place for Dalit Children
5 boys!
What about girls? First of all: We like to say THANK YOU to all people who give on a monthly base; and a
big THANK YOU to all people who are supporting our kids in general.
A $500 (!) check arrived in April: One of our monthly supporters moved out of state and gave
his old, old car to his friend. If the old car survives one year the friend was supposed to donate
$500 to Simon’s House. Now we hope the car lasts another year!
Teddy bear money: 2 little girls from Hamden, CT
collected coins so our boys can have some toys. Kids to kids. It’s
just the best!!!
They were able to hand the donation box directly to our field
director who was visiting at the time. It was the second time these
girls handed over a filled collection box and it is not the last – the
empty box went back to Hamden. THANK YOU Joe and Jasmine.
Girls: the question about supporting girls comes up again and again.
The fact: we cannot raise girls at Simon’s House, the building is simply too small. We would
need another building (which we don’t have). We are looking into the issue of supporting
girls who are living at home.
We need to have a local person in place who makes sure the girls are attending school and
who can intervene if necessary. In due time –
we will know more.
Join us, will you?
We are thankful.
