Dear Sun City Lodge and all its Members,

It is with great honor and humility to be installed as your Worshipful Mas-ter for the 2018 - 2019 year. We have great work a head of us and I look forward to continuing the fellowship, harmony and charity. I hope to fur-ther grow our lodge and all organizations at Sun City Lodge #72. First and

foremost, I am here to serve all of you and I am willing to help out in any capacity that I can.

During my tenure in Freemasonry I’ve been around many great men that have taught me great things and important teachings. I will take the these teachings and examples and implement them into my leadership and direction of the lodge this year. During my time as an office I feel inspired to focus on 3 aspects this year and they are as follows:

Ritual: Freemasonry’s core and defining aspect is the ritual. Without it we are nothing more than a dinner and business meeting. Ritual is was separate us from all other organizations. It gives us en-lightenment, guidance, and valuable teachings. Ritual then is the tool which speaks directly to the spirit, it is the three distinct knocks upon the portals of the spirit which cause the doors to open and spiritual eye to open and see more than the material world.

Fellowship: I would like to have strong fellowship in and between all organizations. We work best when we are in harmony together and look after our members and their families. It is serving to-gether. It is giving together. We look around and see that it is aging together. These are the fibers of fellowship. Fellowship with God and with His people go together. Fellowship with The Supreme Architect is important, because if you find yourself out of fellowship with God, you will soon find yourself out of fellowship with other people, including your Brothers in Lodge, as well.

Charity: We will look beyond the member of our lodge to the communities that surrounds us to help others and grow the spirit of charity and To me, charity doesn’t mean giving money or ser-vices, charity means having a charitable heart. By this, I mean we should ever be willing to see the best in our brethren, to cast the best light on their actions, to see them in the most positive light, to hear their words in the most positive light, in the most charitable light.

Masonic charity is charity of the heart; he thinks no evil of his brother; he cherishes no designs against him. Also it is charity of the hand; he anticipates his Brother's wants, he finds the one in need, feeds the hungry, helps the sick, and perhaps also to the very mind he ought to instruct to build a temple prefect in all its parts. Thus the heart, the tongue, the hand and the mind of the really free and accepted Mason are warmly engaged and diligently exercised in all those grand principals of Masonic charity.

I believe with these three elements combined we will have a successful and joyful year at Sun City Lodge #72. Again, I’m very thankful for your choice in having me as Worshipful Master and I will do my best to live up to the trust you have put in my hands. God bless!

,

The 3 tenants of Freemasonry are Brotherly Love, Relief and Truth. It is this time of the season when we can most easily apply those. As we should be practicing and living these values daily take the time to reflect where you are and where others are. Look for opportunities to give.

Brotherly Love is about caring for someone other than yourself. Do something that serves another Brother, or for that matter, anyone who needs it. Find a way to give something that you’re good at. It doesn’t have to be monetary. Everyone has special talents such as fixing things, helping with a chore, running an errand for a friend, participating in an event or even as simple as listening to per-son who needs to be heard.

Relief could be described as the achievement to a stable condition. This could be as drastic as some-one looking for food or as complicated to one who wants complacency in their life. When you get involved in something other than your life you are already on your way to helping others. You will grow when you do these things.

Truth. Take the time to reflect why you are on earth and keep refining your purpose. Practice what you are good at, educate others and be faithful to your friends. No one will ever reach the state of perfection so continue learning and expanding your mind.

As a Brother of Freemasonry I think about these things all the time, in every part of my life, and ask myself, “What would I do in this situation”, or better yet, “What would a Mason do in this situa-tion?”

,

Dear Brethren,

I would like to thank you for electing me to serve as your Junior Warden

this Masonic year. I am truly humbled and honored and am very excited for

the fellowship and events of the coming year.

While it can be very busy, this is an exciting time of the year. It is filled with

our respective religious observances, giving thanks for our many blessings, opportunities to enjoy fellowship among

brothers, family and friends, and serving others through acts of charity and kindness. It is also a perfect time to re-

flect on our successes, failures, and those things we are most grateful for.

As I have been reflecting on the past year, I’m amazed at how quickly it has gone by. Yet, in that short time I’ve

grown in significant ways, due in part to you sharing your experience, wisdom, friendship and support. I am very

grateful for this lodge and all of the wonderful organizations who meet here as well. You have significantly enriched

my life, and helped me to become a better Mason, dad, husband, son, neighbor, and friend.

Following is a short poem on the topic, and I hope it is one you enjoy as well.

The Plumb

Build up your life like the temple of old

With stones that are polished and true;

Cement it with love, and adorn it with gold

As all Master builders should do:

Upon a foundation, well chosen and strong,

Build now for the ages to come:

Make use of the good, while rejecting the wrong-

And test all your work with the plumb.

– Brother Neal A. McCauley (from The Builder, Anamosa, Iowa, August, 1915)

I’m looking forward to sharing more meals, quality fellowship, learning the ritual, and continuing to grow with your

support. And I cannot wait to look back a year from now to see how far we have come. May the holidays bring

much peace, good health, love, joy, and prosperity to all aspects of your life.

Sincerely and Fraternally,

Matt Link

The Chapter continued its Food Drive for the West Valley Food Bank in November. Collection receptacles are available in the Masonic Cen-ter for donations. The Food Drive continues until the beginning of December. Every donated item helps!

At the Chapter’s monthly meeting on 06 November, the International Master Councilor of DeMolay International was present. Also, Glen-dale and Chandler Chapters visited Valley of the Sun Chapter. In addition to recognizing the visitors, Valley of the Sun Chapter Master Coun-cilor, Caleb Crabtree, inducted a new member into the Valley of the Sun Chapter. After completing the induction ceremonies, Caleb per-formed the Ceremony of Lights for all present. CJ Liguori added to the meeting program by providing an informational presentation on Dad Frank Sherman Land, the founder of the DeMolay Order. It was a great meeting of DeMolay fellowship, information, and ceremony. Below is a picture from the Chapter Meeting showing (L to R) Tyler Strohmeyer from Chandler Chapter; International Master Councilor Avery Brin-kley; and, Caleb Crabtree, Master Councilor of Valley of the Sun Chapter.

The monthly Roundtable gathering provided a focus on activity planning and Youth Protection education.

On Saturday, 10 November, 6 members of the Chapter together with family members and certified firearms persons enjoyed several hours of shooting at the Ben Avery Range. After the shooting, the participants adjourned to a local burger restaurant for refreshments.

Several Valley of the Sun Chapter members participated as members of the Arizona State DeMolay degree team slates in conferring the two degrees in DeMolay in full form during the Arizona State DeMolay organized event at Casa Grande Masonic Center on Saturday, 16 Novem-ber. After the completion of the ceremonies, there was time for food and fellowship.

DeMolay is a Masonic youth organization for young men. To be eligible to join DeMolay, three simple requirements need to be met by the applicant:

+ You are a young man between the ages of 12 and 21;

+ You are of good moral character; and,

+ And you believe in a supreme being (all religions welcome).

DeMolay Chapters confer two degrees for membership. The members engage in a variety of service and fun activities. Service events in-clude working with adult Masonic groups and working in local community charity events. DeMolay members enjoy social activities with members of locally Masonic sponsored Rainbow Girl Assemblies and Job’s Daughter Bethels, as well as recreational events involving sports and electronic game challenges. The Chapter events and meetings are planned and run by the youth Chapter officers with guidance from the Dad Advisor.
