Please contact the secretary to reserve tickets. Fraternally, Rico Castelo Master We have announced our Hiram Award Winner and Mason of the Year. Our Hiram Award Winner is Bro. Warren Thomas. Our Mason of the Year is Wor. Terry Allison. Bro. Thomas has been a very helpful mason. He has been an officer since I have been a mason. I always like to joke with him that his next of- ficer’s position will be Senior Deacon. But he is more in- terested in helping the lodge in the other officer position, then moving to Master. And this is honestly the most help- ful thing the lodge can have. Someone there, that you know will fill in as an officer every year. Since he has been here for so long, he is always able to help all the new officers with their posi- tions. Thank you Bro. War- ren for all the help this year. I’m sure the other brothers feel the same way and that is why you were chosen as the Hiram Award winner. Wor. Allison has been a great secretary. He is the person behind the scenes making sure the lodge func- tions. All his work may not be seen by everyone, but it will be hard for someone new to fill his shoes. He has mon- itored the lodge upgrades as our lodge representative. He makes sure all our meetings and degrees are setup and ready, coordinating with can- didates and officers. He has made sure all our events have their invitations sent out and organized. He has made my life a lot easier as a Master and I am glad he was her as my secretary. He will be missed when he moves. We had our Mother’s Day Brunch on May 7 th . It was a great turn out with plenty of mothers showing up. Every- one had a great time. We had some who traveled in for the event. So thank you to all the people who showed up. The food was great and the com- pany was even better. We had a 3 rd Degree for Bro. Nate Sennett on April 25 th . So please welcome Bro. Sen- nett as our newest master mason. He is coming in with a lot of enthusiasm. So hope- fully he finds time to enjoy the lodge with his busy work schedule. We have selected our 6 scholarship winners. They will be announced at our July stated meeting. This year we are giving $6000 in scholarship money. Two of the awards went to family members of a mason. Two went to previous winners. And two went to recent high school graduates. We have announced our Hiram

Award Winner and Mason of the Year. Our Hiram Award Winner is Bro. Warren Thomas. Our Mason of the Year is Wor. Terry Allison. Bro. Thomas has been a very helpful mason. He has been an officer since I have been a mason. I always like to joke with him that his next of-ficer’s position will be Senior Deacon. feel the same way and that is why you were chosen as the Hiram Award winner.

Wor. Allison has been a great secretary. He is the

person behind the scenes making sure the lodge func-tions. All his work may not be seen by everyone, but it will be hard for someone new to fill his shoes. He has mon-itored the lodge upgrades as our lodge representative. He makes sure all our meetings

and degrees are setup and ready, coordinating with can-didates and officers. He has made sure all our events have their invitations sent out and organized. He has made my life a lot easier as a Master and I am glad he was her as my secretary. He will be missed when he moves.

It is better to gain Wisdom from the Holy Book, rather than any man, for man, is fallible.

It is better to gain Wisdom from the Holy Book first, rather than seek wis-dom from many men first.

It is better to gain Wisdom from one Wise man in whom you trust, rather than a counsel of many men, of who’s intent you do not know.

It is better, always, to gain wisdom from the counsel of a few wise men, rather than from the counsel of many fool’s

and charlatans who think themselves wise.

It is better to build your house upon the rock of God rather than the sand founda-tions of politicians, for the rock is ever-lasting salvation and truth, whilst the sands of politics are rife with the shifting foundation, often laid down upon the dev-ils doings.

It is better to separate church and state rather than have any chance of the state someday separating your child from his church, due to the changing politics of a Free Nation.

Counsels of fools, aforetime, often thought they were wisely guiding lead-ers, even as a mob pounded upon the doors of the counsel room.

John 3:16 Is an inalienable right given by God, to every person who has this faith as their salvation. This gift is not subject to retraction or condition, set by king, prince, potentate or radio talk show host.

God Love’s, all His Children.

Seven Greatest Mis-takes of Freemasonry (author unknown)

1. Ritual Without Meaning. Too many times, we are more con-cerned about performing the ritual perfectly without understanding what it means. Ritual for the sake of tradi-tion is worthless. Ritual for the sake of enlightenment is valuable. An un-derstanding of the ritual’s meaning is far more important than just memo-rizing it. 2. Fellowship without Frivolity Whenever Masons decide to hold a function for fellowship, a discussion typically ensues about how to make the function have the smallest impact on the lodge’s finances and the wal-lets of the members. This results in paper plates, meager meals, boring and less well attended events. To spend money wisely in order to make fellowship a grand time is wise for the lodge that wants to be suc-cessful. Also we do not have to be slaves to form, endlessly repeating the same toasts and replies – we should reward individuality and crea-tivity in order to keep our meetings alive and fun! 3. Quantity without Quality A lodge with seven great men that believe in the Masonic ideals and

actively strive to improve them-selves—and therefore the lodge—is far better off than a lodge with one hundred men that show up to lodge just to be seen. 4. Education without Philosophy Many times, we think of Masonic ed-ucation as being a lesson on the lo-cal lodge’s history, a famous Mason, the history of the world wide fraterni-ty, or how to do the ritual properly. But if no philosophy is covered in Masonic education, then little self -improvement is accomplished. Dis-cussing Masonic lessons in terms of philosophy, ideas, and a man’s con-duct is what truly transforms men into Masons. It is important to share & discuss topics that are foreign to a lodge’s membership and it is some-times even necessary to challenge our preconceived ideologies through Masonic education. 5. Charity without Connection Big charities often require that fund raisers be conducted and large checks written to the people that ac-tually perform the charity. This type of charity offers no self- improvement because it has no real connection to us or our life. If we extend our hands to our needed Brethren and devote our own skills and time to their prob-lems, then we are engaging in true, meaningful charity.

6. Frugality without Discretion Frugality is not a tenet of Freema-sonry, a cardinal virtue, or a Land-mark. It is acceptable for the lodge to spend its funds on worthwhile activi-ties that will enhance the Masonic experience of its Brethren. Not eve-rything should be done in the cheap-est way, a habit to which we have become accustomed. 7. Leadership without Competence A man does not deserve to be mas-ter of the lodge, solely because he has spent a certain amount of years attending meetings or because he is next in line. We, on occasion, elect our leaders without any regard for the skills that they possess in order to function in that capacity. We should only elect competent and qualified men to preside over us Comment I have noted that no name has been given to who the author of this paper, maybe, and I can only imagine why! Whoever he may be, in my opinion, he should be congratulated for being short & direct in his views. Being provocative as it is, it certainly gives the reader something to think about. Have a wonderful Day & God Bless

Stepping Up to the Plate for California Youth! The Masons of California are once again teaming up with the San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the San Diego Padres to bring the fun of baseball to more kids. Each region has teams facing off in friendly competition to help the most kids they can, through each MLB team’s founda-tion. The team from each region that funds the greatest num-ber of baseball mitts will publicly present their check, along with the grand master, on Masons Night at the ballpark in AT&T Park in San Francisco, Dodger Stadium in Los Ange-les, and Petco Park in San Diego.

In San Francisco, we support the Junior Giants, the flagship program of the Giants Com-munity Fund. This free, non-competitive baseball program serves boys and girls ages 5-18 from more than 150 cities throughout the region. The kids learn teamwork, respect, and self-confidence through this program, which also furnishes them with jerseys, hats, base-ball equipment, and tickets to select Giants games. Don’t forget to buy your tickets for Masons Night at AT&T Park on Wednesday, September 28!

In Los Angeles, we are supporting the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) and their Dodgers RBI program, which is a comprehensive, urban youth baseball and softball program for boys and girls, ages 5-18. LADF provides uniforms and equip-ment, recruitment assistance, supplemental marketing assistance and cash grants to support the Dodgers RBI program. Through the Dodgers RBI Program, LADF seeks to promote greater in-clusion of under-resourced youth, increase participation and interest in baseball and soft-ball, encourage academic participation and achievement, stress healthy habits and wellness and focus on fun, teamwork and fair play. Join us for the Masons Night at Dodger Stadium on Monday, September 19!

In San Diego, we are supporting the Padres Foundation. This free, non-competitive base-ball program serves boys and girls from 5-18 throughout the region. The kids learn team-work, respect, and self-confidence through this program, which also furnishes them with jerseys, hats, baseball equipment, and tickets to select Padres games. Join us for Masons Night at Petco Park on Thursday, September 22!

To donate mitts, please visit www.masons4mitts.org. For more information or to purchase tickets for your area’s Masons Night, email Joshua
