Using innovative green architecture such as straw bale and rammed earth construction,

active and passive solar systems, a green roof and green wall; the centre will showcase alternative energy in action. Designed and built by Sir Sandford Fleming’s Sustainable Building Program, the centre will be “Canada’s most sustainable building (Chris Magwood sustainable builder and course instructor).”

The Camp Kawartha Environment Centre will deliver curriculum linked environmental programming to regional schools, show case sustainable living practices to the broader community and provide training to Trent teacher candidates in environmental education. Educating for a sustainable future is a proactive way to instill hope among Canadians. Hope to move beyond a fossil fuel economy, hope to live more gently and sustainably in our communities and hope for our children to experience a cleaner, greener future.

Sir Sandford Fleming College 20-week Sustainable Building Design and Construction certificate is a unique, cutting-edge program that equips students with an integrated skill set in the design of structures using green, natural or sustainable building methods, technologies and materials and renewable energy resources. www.flemingc.on.ca
