treatment of d isease, has gained rapid ly in

acceptance by lead ing phys ician s . Moreover

,the medicines requ ired— the so - called

Twe lve Ti ssue Remed ies— have been foundto be curat ive agents of the very h ighest

order for all forms of disease, and as the

and preci se,they are especially adapted to

the needs of domest ic med icine . Theymeet all the requirements of remed ies for

the household,being harmle ss

BIOCHEMICAL TREATMENT.

The body is made up of'

cells . Differen t

kind s of cel ls bu ild up the different ti ssues

and organs of the body . The difference in

the cells is largely determ ined by the kind

of inorganic salts w hich enter into the i r

composition . If we burn the body,or any

part of i t,we obtain the ashes . These are

the inorganic consti tuent-s of the body, the

sal ts of i ron,magnesia

,lime

,etc .

,which

bu i ld up i ts t issues . Besides these inor

gan ic salts , the body i s composed of waterand organic substances in the proportion of

one - twentieth of inorgani c salts to the remainder of water and organic matter ; but

the latte r i s inert and use less in the absence

of the inorganic cel l - sal t s . These are the

real tissue builders, the arch itect s of the

organism, and both the structure and v i tal

i ty of the body depend U pon the ir proper

vi

quant ity and distribution in every cell .The biochemical treatment uses these inorgamic cell salts

,when properly prepared

for assimi l ation, and they are the Tissue

Remed ies, capable of curing every curable

di sease and ameliorating most incurableones .

HEALTH AND DISEASE.

Health is the state of the body when allthe cel ls composing the various t issues arein a normal cond ition

,and they are kept in

this sta te when they each receive the requi .

s ite q uantity of the needful cel l sal t re

quired for the upbuilding of the differentt issues .D i sease is an altered state of the cel l

produced by some i rregularity ln the supply to the cells of one of the inorganic t issue salts . Imperfect cel l action results

,

diseased" ti ssues and organs fol low,and all

the phenomena of d i sease are developed .

Now the cure consis ts in restoring thenormal cel l growth

,by furnishing a min i

mal dose of that inorgan ic substance whose

molecular motion i s disturbed ,which d is

turbance cause the d iseased action . To dothi s succe ssfu l ly

,it i s necessary to know

what salts are neede d for the upbui ld ing of

the different ti ssues and for their normal

act ion . Thi s knowledge i s derived from

physiological chemi st ry,and hence thi s

treatment of , di sease by supply ing the

needed tissue salt i s called the biochemical

t rea tment .What is more rational

,what is more nat

ural, founded as it i s on natural law

,that

where there is a deficiency in’

one or moreof the component parts of the const it uentsof an organism , that th i s deficiency w il l

prod uce a deranged or a diseased condition ;or

,more logical

,than by the supplying of

these lacking e lements an equi l ibri um will

again be restored, and the organ ism re

t urned to its normal condit ion .

Bygiving a tissue remedy in s uch a doseas can be assim i lated by the growing cell s

,

the most wonderful and speedy restorationto healthy funct ion is brought about in

every case of curable d isease . All di seasesthat are at all curable are so by means ofthe ti ssue remed ie s properly prepared to

the needs of the organ ism. This i s veryimportan t

,and on i t d epends the success of

the treatment,j u st as much as 011 the cor

rect selection of the particular cel l salt . I tseems reasonable that

,to make the cell

salts immed iate ly use ful, they should be

prepared in the same del icate form in whichnature use s them

,and that i f they are ab

sorbed by the mic roscOpic corpuscles , they

must themse lves be finer than the corpuscles . We know that the mineral or cellsalts are infinitesimally subd ivided in the

different kinds of food w e take, thus capa

ble of assimi lat ion by the ce l ls .

THE DIFFERENT CELL- SALTS .

The cells of each ti ssue group receivetheir own special and peculiar cel l salt ; for

instance, those entering into the promot ion

of nerve cells are Magnesia,Potash

,Soda

and Iron ; o f bone cel ls,Lime , Magnesia

and Si lica,etc .

,etc .

,which are

,as a rule

,

extracted by the body from the food we take .

There are twelve Tissue Remed i es— thetwelve inorganic salts found in the ashes o f

the body, all essential to the prope r growth

and development of every part of the body .

They are the

Of Lime,Calcarea phosphorica .

lOf Iron,Ferrurn phosphoricum .

Phosgoha tesf Of Potash, Kali phosphoricum .

ior Soda , Natrum phOSphor ic um .

LOf Magnesia , Magnesia phosphorica .

C’hlorides 3Of Potash

,Kali mu riaticum

,

Of Soda,Natrum mur iaticum .

Of Lime,Calcarea sulphu rica .

Su lpha tes Of Soda,Natrum sulphur icum .

Of Potash,Kali sulphu ricum .

F luoride of Lime,Calcarea fluorica ; and

S i llcic Oxide, pu re flin t or quartz , S ilica .

Of these, those entering into the forma

tion of nerve cells, and hence useful as rem

edies in di seases of the nervous system,

are Magnesia phos,Kali phos

,etc . , of mus

cle cells, the same and Kali mun ; of 60716

cells,Calcarea

,Si l icea

,etc .

Preparationsand[loses eftheTissueRemedies.

The best preparation of the Ti ssue Remed ies i s the trit urated form The originalsalts are tri turated according to the homoeo

pathic method with sugar of mi lk,one part

of the sal t to nine of sugar of m i lk,for one

hour, which gives the first dec imal trit ura

tion , The particles of th is are st ill too

large to be readily assimi lated by th e cells ,and experience has taught that for general

use the six th trit uration, where each grain

contains the one - mi l l ionth part of a grain

of the cel l - sal t,to be the most desi rable .

Of some remed ies,l ike Ca le. phos . and

[fi ll man,and in certain pat ients

,lower

preparation s are o ften more efficac ious .

If favorable response i s no t ev ident from

the sixth, subst it ute the third or second

t ri turation,or in more chronic affec tions ,

the twelfth,or even thi rtie th

,may ac com

plish what the lower would not .

xi

The best method of admin i stering the

selected remedy i s to dissolve a powder of

a size to cover a n ickel,or as much as wi ll

l ie on the poin t of a knife,in a t umbler

half ful l of water , and then give teaspoon

ful doses every hour or two , according to

the severity of the case . Tn acute painand very severe affections the remedy

"

may

be given every ten or fifteen minutes

Sometimes i t i s adv i sable to give i t in hot

water ; thi s is espec ial ly true when pre

scribing for ne uralgia and colic . Tw oremed ie s may be given advantageously ln

alternat ion if both are cal led for . In

chronic d i seases tw o or three dose s dai ly

are sufficient . Or the powder may be taken

d ry on the tongue ; a powder the size of a

pea for a dose .

Use separate tumblers and spoons for

each med ic ine ; never mix remed ies or use

but one spoon for tw o or more remed ies .

Mix all med icine fresh dai ly . Keep the

tumblers covered w ith a d ish or paper , in

order to prevent contamination of the pre

para tion .

Recently , compressed tablet s made fromthe trituration have been introduced

,and

form a convenient and accurate method for

taking the remedies .

TREATMENT OF DISEASES WITH THE

TWELVE TISSUE REMEDIES.

ABSCESS.

— Is a circumscribed cavity contain ing pus . It i s a con sequence of inflam

mation of tissues follow ing an inj ury,s uch

as a blow o r presence of a foreign bod y .

The ch ief symptoms are swelling, heat

,red

ness,and throbbing pain

,frequently w ith

sh ive ring or rigors .

TREATMENT .

— Applicat ion of heat,poul

tices of flax - seed or linseed . When the

abscess has opened, the wound should be

bathed w ith warm Aqueous Ca leudu la , one

part to five, and afterward s a cloth with

some Ca lendula Cerale be applied .

REMEDiEs .

— Ferrum phosph ,every hour

,

when there i s much redness,pain and

throbbing in the parts .Cale. sulph. when matter has formed ;

th is w i l l assi st the maturing of the abscessand in many cases render opening the

abscess unnecessary .

2

S ilica— After the abscess breaks, this re

medy should be used . It ripens the abscessand promotes suppurat ion

,rendering it

healthy . The best preparation of S ilica ' forthi s purpose i s that prepared from theBamboo . Use

,

the 6x t rit uration,a small

powder,S i ze of a pea

,every two hours .

ACIDITY.— A symptom of certain types

o f indigestion in which an abnormal quanti ty of acid i s secreted . Frequently assoc iated with heartburn

,sour r1smgs into the

mout h and sour taste .

TREATMENT .

- AVOid the free indulgenceof starchy foods

,potatoes

,mushes

,pud ~

dings,etc .

REMEDIEs .

— Natrum phosph. i s the ch iefremedy . I t i s best given in hot water

,by

adding a powder of the 6x trituration,size

of a L ima bean,to a cup of hot water

,and

sipping i t before meals,or a smal l powder

may be given dry on the tongue every hourunt i l relieved .

3

Calcar . phosph. may be given in the same

way,morn ing and night

,as a const it utional

remedy to permanently cure the gas tric

weakness giving rise to acid ity .

ACNE — An eruption of pimples, usually

on the face and espec ially occurring at the

time of puberty .

TREATMENT -Look to d iet, avoi d fat and

rich food . Proper attent ion to bathing,

exerc ise and the bowels is necessary : Ifthere i s any menstrual disorder

,see to

that .

REMEDIES . °— Natrum mur . 1293 trituration °

a dose n ight and morning should be given

to persons w ith bad, earthy complexion

,

who are blood less and inclined to b e con

stipated and generally depressed in bodyand mind .

Ka li mur . 6 3 ; three t imes a day,for pim

ples on face and neck, especially afte r errors

in diet— pimple s filled w i th thick,wh ite

matter .

4

Ca lcar . pleas— Especially during time of

puberty . Menses are apt to be rather tooearly and too free in young girls ; muchbackache . Take a powder

,size of a pea ,

three times a day .

AMENORRHCEA.- Suppression of men se s

or the ir non - appearance at time of puberty .

TREATMENT .

- Nourishing food,plenty of

outdoor exerc ise, salt water baths . Avoid

too much school work and home study .

REMEDIEs .

— Natrum mur . Lew— A smallpowder night and morning

,in chlorot ic and

anemic girls, who are depressed mental ly

,

have a sallow complexion and inclined tobe constipated .

Calcar . phosph. (fee— Same dose may begiven after Natrum mur . has been taken forone month .

Kali phos ,6 3 3 may be given w hen

,in

consequence of the menstrual disturbance,

bronch ial and lung troubles appear, and

the patient is depressed, languid and weak .

6

a day i s espec ially useful in young girlswith d i rty complexion

,who have frequ ent

palpitation,are blue and melancholy

,have

bad dreams,constipation

,backache and

symptoms of malaria— such as ch ills, fever

ish t urns,perspiration

,neuralgia

,etc .

ANGINA PECTORIS, or Breast - pang , i s an euralgia around the heart

,coming on

suddenly,impeding breathing and of most

painful character . May be dependent on

d i seased cond iti on of the nutritive vesselsof the heart itse lf .

REMEDIEs .

— Magnesia phosph. 6x tri turation

,a powder size of a l ima bean to be

d i ssolved in,

a cup of hot water,and a

Swallow to be taken every min ute untilrel ieved .

Kali phosph. 6x trit .,a pow der n igh t and

morning may be given occasional ly to ward

off the attacks .

APPETITE,Loss of. TREATMENT.

— Avoid

the use of ton ics,con tain ing drugs and

7

spirits . Plenty of fresh air and moderate

exercise and bath ing in salt water should

be enjoyed . See that the bowels are in a

good condition .

REMEDIEs.

— Kali pkosph. Nervous weak

ness,gone feeling

, p

i

alpitation .

Calcar . phosph ,when there i s much

flatulence, acid ity . Especially useful after

any acute i l lness or When associated w ithany drain on the system .

ASTHMA — Difficu lty of breath ing , w ithout fever

,attended w ith a su ffoc at ive feeling

,

constriction across the chest,w ith cough

and wheezing re spiration . An attack isusual ly brought on by a cold or error indiet . Asthma i s often caused by suppres

sion of a skin disease or by enlarged lym

phatic gland s in throat,or n asal obstruction

,

which ought to be removed or t reated beforethe Asthma can be cured . The treatmentis both for the acute attack and eradicat ive .

REMEDIEs.

—Ferrum p leas . and Magnesia

phos ,in alternat ion every 34

1

: and hour,

8

when there is much wheezing, nausea and

loose cough .

ERADICATIVE TREATMENT— Natrum sulph.

12x trituration,a dose night and morning

,

especial ly for ch ildren who suffe r w ith asthmatic attacks afte r some skin disease

,ecze

ma,etc .

,who wheeze up at every change of

weather . Take for a few weeks, then sub

stitute Calcar . phosph. 8x tri turation,to be

given in the same way . By persevering fora t ime w ith these constit utional remedies

,

many cases of Asthma can be cured .

BACKACHE i s a symptom of many different disorders

,usually connected with uter

ine troubles or chronic const ipation, piles

or kidney complaints . These must betreated before the backache will cease .

But there are some remedies specially usefu l when the fol low ing conditions are

present .

REMEDIEs — Oalcar .phosph. 6x tritura tion ,a dose three t imes a day . Backache in

9

small of back in the morn ing, numbne ss

,

coldness and creeping sensat ion . Backachein young people who grow rapid ly and

after any exertion .

Na trum mar . 12x trit urat ion,a powder

night and morn ing for backache, rel ieved

by ly ing on someth ing hard .

Kaliphosph. if connected wi th loss of v ital

fluids and nervous di sturbances gen erally .

BARBER’S ITCH.

- Kali mur . 6x trituration

,a dose three t imes daily alternated

w i th C'alcar sulph. will cure rap idly . At

the same time, the beard should be cut off

,

bathe parts w ith hot water to which some

carbolic ac id sol u t ion has been added ( 10d rops to a cup) , and af terwards apply somecarbolic cerate .

BILIOUSNESS.—A condition character

ized by headache,drowsiness

,furred tongue ,

loss of appet ite, bitter taste and constipation .

TREATMENT .

— Person s subject to bil ious

ness should not eat too much meat,d rink

IO

plen ty of wate r,avoid coffee and high l iving

and take plenty of exercise .

REMEDIES — Natrum sulph. 6x tri turation,

a powder every three hours ; coated tongue ,sallow skin

, yel low eyeballs,soreness in

region of l iver,

flatulence .

Kali mea n,i f caused by eating rich food .

Natrum phosph ,if the tongue is coated

w ith a bright yellow fur .

BOILS (See Abscess) . Con ical hard swellings

,attended with considerable inflamma

t ion,and acutely tender to pressure . They

slowly inflame,get larger

,come to a head

,

and finally suppurate w ith a core in thecentre

,which is discharged with the pur

nlen t matter, and all pain ceases . Derange

ment of the system, from abuse of food and

torpid ity of the circu lation, often causes

boi ls .

ACCESSORY TREATMENT .

—Foment w ith hotwater

,and then poultice with fresh l inseed

meal or bread and mi lk,applying linen rags

l l

soaked with Ualeudula lot ion afte rwards.

(For med ical treatmen t , see Abscess . The

diet should be in accordance w ith the condition of the pat ient ; if of full habit and

living freely,a spare diet may be advi sable ;

but if,on the contrary

,the system is a

lit tle below par,a mo re generous regimen

should be adopted .

BRAIN - FAG.

— The resul t of overwork,

worry,anxiety

,loss of sleep

,too close ap

plicat ion to business,st udy

,etc .

,character

~~ized by impaired memory

,d ullness

,nervous

n'

ess,sleeplessness

,depressed spiri ts

,lack of

appetite and strength .

REMEDIES — Ka li phosph. 6x trituration,a

dose in the morning,and S ilica 12x t ri t ur

at ion,a dose at n ight

,used persistently

,

w il l be found the most effect ive remed ies .

They w ill res tore Sleep, appet ite , confidence ,

and strength . It may be necessary to

follow w ith Calcar . phosp le. 6x triturat ion,

a dose before every meal, especially if there

12

i s a good deal of general coldness,or a

tendency to n ight‘

sw eat s .

BRONCH IT I S .— Inflammation of the

t ubes which convey ai r to the lungs . There

i s usually fever,constant and v iolent irri

tation,cough

,hoarseness

,uneasiness of

breathing,oppressed and anxious wheezing

,

whistling or rattl ing respiration . The

cough i s generally dry at first, followed by

expectoration of frothy,thick or blood

streaked mucus . If the smaller tubes are

attacked . the shortness of breath will be

espec ially severe . This 1s the form most

to be dreaded in ch i ldren . One attack

predisposes to others, and gives rise to

chronic bronchitis . Here the cough i s per

si stent and loose,w ith much yellowish

expectoration .

TREATMENT .

' - A warm,equable tempera

ture of about 70 degrees should be kept inthe room

,and the patient put to bed .

Liqu id d iet : m i lk,grue l

,stewed frui t may

BUNIONS Inflammation and’

enlargement on the joint of the great or little toe .

MEmmNAL TREATMENT .

—S ilicia is an effi

cacic us remedy . Dose— Two tablet s dry onthe tong ue , once a day for a week , thenwa it three days and repeat .

ACCESSORY TREATMENT— The applicationof Ar nica lotion (one teaspoonful of the

t incture to four or five tablespoonfuls of

water) by me ans of a linen bandage overthe part

,especially if the re i s much inflam

mat ion and pain . All pressure must beavoided . An arn ica bunion plaster may

be applie d to the enlargement . In somecases i t may be necessary to paint the

bun ion w ith Iodine .

BURNS AND SCALDS TREATMENT . ( 1)Cover the burn immediately with cottonwool

,to exc lude the air ; or , for the same

object cover with linen rags,o r cotton

wool saturated w ith ol ive o il;o r ( 3 ) powderthe wound plentifully w ith flour

,keeping

15

i t well covered by new applicat ions if nec

essary ; or (4) cover the whole w ith a plaster of soap

,made by scraping wh ite c urd

soap, and working it into a salve with tepid

water, and spreading i t upon linen or mus

lin . Slight or superficial burns or scald s

may be relieved by holding the part to the

fire,or by apply ing spirits of turpent ine ,

brandy or spirits of w ine to them . In

dressing burns,puncture the blisters and

remove the old sk in,but expose the wound

as little as possible to the act ion of the air ;do not d ress oftener than once a day

,and

donot disturb the part s by wash ing them.

The exclusion of the air from the par t

affected is of the utmost consequence, and

it i s be st to apply that dre ssing which can

be obtained the qu ickest . Carbolized vase

line i s an excellent application,and should

be subst itute d for plain olive oil when ob

tainable . Internally,give Ferrum phosph.

6x,trituration

,a powder d issolved in water

,

and teaspoonful doses every hour .

16

CARBUNCLE.— A consti tut ional disease

characterized by c ircumscribed inflamma

t ion of the t issue under the skin, lead ing

to ulceration and death o f the ti ssue involved . I t generally comes from a de

pressed state of health . It is usually sit uated on the back of the neck

,or trunk . It

i s d istinguished from a boil by its largers ize

,constitutional s ymptoms and S ieve - like

open ing .

TREATMENT .

—Keep up the strength of thepat ient by nourishing food . Poultice with

flaxseed and dress w ith aqueous Calendula

lotion . When heal ing is commenced, apply

Ualendula cerate. Internally,use treatment

recommended under "Abscess ." Whatever

remedy i s g iven should be alternated w ithKali phosph. 6x tablets

,one tablet every

two hours .

Carbuncle i s a seriou s di sease , and oughtto have the care of a phy sician . In hi s

absence, the above treatment will be found

the best .

17

CANCER, or Malignant Tumor . Calledmalignant because i t tends to increase indefinitely

,to recur after removal

,and t o

invade other part s of the body .

TREATMENT - Noth ing is more certain

than that remed ies Can influence the devel

opmen t , and sometime cure , these growths ;but i t requires patience and the physician ’ sskill. The Tissue Remedies are frequen t lyof great use in the treatment of al l forms

of tumors Among those of undoubted

value are Cale. fluor .

,S ilica

,Cale. phosph.

and Ka li sulph.

Gale. fluor .

-Knots,kernel s

,etc .

,in the

breast ; hardened gland s ; hard swelling

anywhere . Take one tablet of the 3 d t rit .night and morning ; after a week , take the

6th,and later

,the 12th

,in order to get the

full action of the drug . The other reme

dies may be substi t uted and used intercur

ren tly .

Kali phosph.

—For the pains of can cer,

and for the offensive discharges .

18

CATARRH ,in its various forms

,i s one of

the most common d iseased cond it ionsknown . It attacks al l ages and classes

,

and tend s to run a chronic course, and

predisposes to serious d iseases of the lungsand other organs . The skin wh ich linesall the passages of the body— nose

,throat

,

bronchial tubes,oesophagus

,stomach

,etc .

i s called the mucous membrane . Countlesslittle glands come to the surface of thisskin

,or membrane

,and exude into the

passagesi

'

a th in l iqu id called mucus, which

keeps the passages smooth and moi st . Ca

tarrh totally changes the condit ion of theseglands by enlarging and inflaming themand by causing the death of many of theircell s . These dead cel ls are next expelledfrom the mouth of the gland in a streamupon the surface of the mucous membrane .

What had been,in health

,a thin liqui d

secreted from the blood,and containing

j ust the properties to keep the membranesmooth and healthy

,becomes now a thick

mass of dead matter . Wh i le this change

19

in secretion is going on,another seriou s

evi l i s taking place,namely

,the enlarge

ment of the glands, which causes them to

crowd against one anothe r,and to th icken

the mucous membrane,so that its normal

properties and condit ion s are changed to

those of disease . This process is what constitutes catarrh

,and i t may occur in any

mucous membrane, but is most common in

the nasal tract,u sually as resu lt of repeated

colds in an organ ism predisposed thereto or

in children where the diges tive‘

organ s or

the skin are otherw ise unhealthy The

symptoms besides the discharge,wh ich i s

u sually th ick and more or less offens ive,are

dullness of the head —pains in head, sense

of sme ll impa ired, breath offensive

,etc .

TREATMENT .

—Regulate the d iet ;keep thebowels open ; insist upon maintaining a

healthy action of the sk in by daily sponging and friction ; insist upon wool be ing

worn next the skin n ight and day ,s ummer

and w inter ; insist upon well ven ti lated

20

sleeping apartments— open wi ndows theyear round ; teach the patient to breathethrough the nose and to ful ly expand the

chest, and have him practice lung gymnas

tics unti l he does this properly ; and havehim live in the Open air as much as possible . As a curative and prophylact ic agentin nasal catarrh

,pure air i s the best topical

application and al so the best general tonic .

Kalimur .

— Dryness and stiffness of nose .

Hawk ing of mucus from the back part of

the throat . The most sat isfactory remedy

to begin treatment . Take one tablet every3 hours . After a week follow it w ith

C’a lca rea phosph ,

which is especial lyuseful in chronic catarrhal cond it ions . Noseseems swollen or i s ulcerated . The patienttakes cold very read ily . This remedy hasa dec ided tonic action on the mucous mem

brane and may be used intercurrently withother remedies that may be indicated . Takeone tablet after meals and at bedtime .

Na trum mur is the best remedy when

22

CATARRHAL FEVER is characterized bysligh t fever fol lowed by a profuse mucousdischarge from the head and chest

,the head

feel s stuffed, the nostrils are obstru ct ed

,

there i s frequent sneezing,watering of the

eyes , and often sore throat and cough .

TREATMENT .

-The most effectual means ofrelief is good n ursing in a moderately warm

and equable temper atu re— a w arm bath,or

immersing the feet in hot water, and pro

mot ing perspiration by a hot bed and warm

drinks . An imal food and stimulatingd rinks must be abstained from . If there i sa liabil ity to catch cold

,do not at once

when coming from the cold air, endeavor

to get warm by approach ing a hot fire, but

do so by degre es . U se plenty o f coldwater dai ly over the chest

,shoulders

,throat

and neck, sponging freely for two or three

'

minu tes,

and applying a rough towel or

flesh b rush afterward s unti l well warmed .

REMEDIES . —F67‘

nately . When improvement shows itself,
