Upon a request from a major oil refiner, Tracerco redesigned its awardwinning TRACERCO Profiler™ instrument to withstand the elevatedoperating temperatures typically experienced within a desalter.Tracerco’s in-house development capability of leading edge scientistsand physicists was used to produce, test and commission a newinstrument with suitable design specifications within a six monthtimeframe needed to meet a pre-planned shutdown schedule.

The TRACERCO Profiler™ not only measures the layers but the extentof phase dispersion, that is, the quality of the interface between anytwo phases. It brings you the complete solution.

At last you have complete controlThe purpose of measurement is to provide an accurate basis forcontrol. Using information from The TRACERCO Profiler™, theengineer can set the interface at the point for efficient production.When The TRACERCO Profiler™ detects a variation from the norm,the computer will automatically operate controls to increase ordecrease intake until equilibrium is restored.

For the first time, the operator can tell how much solid/sludge has builtup within the desalter vessel, assess what effect this is having onthroughput, and jet wash the separator to rid it of the problem.

The TRACERCO Profiler™ also makes possible the optimum use of effect chemicals. It will not only detect the presence of emulsion butits dispersion. Again for the first time, the operator can see the effectof a dose of asphaltene dispersant or de-emulsifier, and therefore addonly the minimum amount to achieve the desired effect.

As well as saving money, this reduces the amounts of chemical used. Italso enables you to compare the performance of different brands ofeffect chemicals.
