HAPPY BIRTHDAY SEPTEMBER! “I have set the Lord always before me. Because He is at my right hand, I will not be shaken." Psalm 16:8 Dr. L. Dean Majette, Senior Pastor Rev. Paul Brill, Minister of Music Rev. Wilson Macá, Minister of International Missions Mr. Garrett Wolf, Minister to Children and Youth From The Pastor's Pen... by Dean Majette, Senior Pastor Here I sit watching the sun shimmer over the blue water while sailboats dance over baby waves. My final “summer fling” makes it difficult for me to believe that summer is drawing to a close. The clock of life moves faster and faster with each passing year. College students have returned to their campuses, local students will soon be in class and summer vacations will be stored away in the photo albums of our memories. With the end of summer, begins a new church year. This year will be one of the most challenging and exciting in recent memory. The construction crew is busy building the long anticipated elevator at the church. This will be a welcome addition, making it much easier for those with physical challenges to access the church building and get to where they want to be. A new entrance at the back of the church near the elevator will eliminate a step and the automatic door opener will provide an added convenience. Hopefully, the project will be completed in November. I am looking forward to the routines of church life to return to their normal state after the summer break. Already committees and ministries have been gearing up with their dreams and plans. By now you should have received a copy of the proposed budget for the new church year beginning in October. Please study it carefully and pray earnestly about it. I don’t remember a time when more effort has been put into developing a budget. Each committee, organization and ministry team has been asked to rethink their budgets based on the larger mission of the church and the vision of each particular group. Even with all this work, this year’s budget will be a challenge. It is a smaller budget than the one’s we’ve had recently. A shortfall in giving has called us to reduce expenses without sacrificing our core values. Even so, it will require a sacrifice on the part of each member to help us underwrite the costs. As you read through the budget, I hope you will not see it simply as a ledger sheet with numbers. I hope you will look past the numbers to see all the lives we strive to touch and change in the name of Jesus. This is really about serving our risen Savior. I believe if we take it seriously, commit ourselves to the vision God has given us and all pull together, we can move forward in a way that honors God. As I look up from writing this article, the sun has begun to set, the sailboats are gliding back to shore and a new church year is at hand! May God richly bless Ox Hill!

Here I sit watching the sun shimmer over the blue water while sailboats dance over baby waves.
