The Tang Dynasty

● They had an organized government system with exams for scholar-official places so that everyone, including the poor, could become one; not only the wealthy.

● They were happy because they were rich but not just with money but with culture and exotic goods.

Why was it successful?

● During the Tang Dynasty, women had relative freedom

● During the Tang Dynasty, the Silk road had a lot of exotic goods traded and many ideas were shared.

● Empress Wu raised Agricultural production and gave free land to farmers to grow crops.

Scholar Officials

● The new type of rice. They got to grow 2 to 3 crops a year, where before they only could grow 1 crop a year.

● The terraces used to grow rice were steps on the slopes on hills. The terraces enabled Chinese farmers to grow more rice with more land going up, more than spread out.

What changed in the Dynasty?

Who was the ruler?

● Empress Wu (Wu Zetian)● She became ruler by marrying the

emperor, but as a concubine. Then, she accused the first wife of killing her daughter and had the Emperor believe her. The emperor had Wu marry-the up and Wu became the Empress. Then, when the Emperor became sick, she took his place. When he died, she made herself Empress.

● It ended when Empress Wu died peacefully. Her son became the next Emperor.
