JUNE 9, 2019 - PENTECOST SUNDAY
GOSPEL Pentecost Sunday
J u n e 9 , 2 0 1 9 Jn 20:19-23
On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, "Peace be with you." When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you."
And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained."
REFLECTION When the disciples received the Holy Spirit, they were able to proclaim God’s word in a way that everyone could understand, no matter their cul-ture, their country, or their language. When early Christians received the Holy Spirit, they were able to serve the body of Christ, the church, with unique spiritual gifts. Since we have received the Holy Spirit and continue to be filled with the Holy Spirit, let us ponder how we can use our gifts to the benefits of others.
Parish Mission Statement The Church of Saint Ann
in Lawrenceville is a Roman Catholic family of faith,
built on the inspiration of past generations,
to serve the community by loving God and our neighbor.
We strengthen faith, celebrate the sacraments,
provide for the spiritual and corporal works of mercy,
educate across the lifespan, heal the spiritually broken,
and respect the dignity of human life.
We live the Gospel and seek Christ in all people.
Invitation to Morning Prayer/Communion Service
Have you wished that you had the opportunity to receive Communion during the week as well as on Sunday but cannot attend the daily Mass?
Please join us for a short Morning Prayer/Communion Service each Friday morning at 7:00 AM in the Chapel. It is a quiet and peaceful way to begin your day.

Action Alert Governor Murphy announced his proposed budget for fiscal year 2020 on March 5, 2019. The budget process is now in the hands of the Legislature. We are asking the legislature for increases in the per-pupil amounts for nonpublic school transportation; nursing services and Compensatory Education. These accounts are vital for our Catholic schools. If your state legislators sits on either of the Budget Committees, please contact them and ask that they increase the amounts for these three vital accounts. If your legislators are not on either Committee, ask them to encourage their colleagues on the budget committee to increase the funding in these accounts. Visit njcatholic.org/faith-in-action to use the New Jersey Catholic Conference VOTER VOICE SYS-TEM to send your message today! Thank you for supporting Catholic Education in New Jersey!
Six Ways I Can Make My
Parish Better
Today, parishioners are expected to feel a true sense of
ownership in their parish. That means looking at your parish
as more than just a place where you go to Mass. We continue
our reflection with two more ways you can make your parish
better.
*A sacred place where the human and the divine meet, where
people of all ages grow in knowledge and understanding of
what it means to be a follower of Jesus Christ.
*A place where people receive spiritual nourishment, guidance,
inspiration, and strength—not just from the priests but from
other members of the parish as well.
*A spiritual home where people share each other’s joys, support
each other in times of sorrow, offer encouragement to
those who are struggling, and help to heal anyone who feels
battered or broken by life’s trials and tragedies.
*A social place where people make new friends, reach out to
those less fortunate, and invite others to become part of a
community of believers who try their best to live the
Gospel message.
Maybe your parish is all of this and more, but even the best parishes
can become even better when parishioners take an active interest in
making the parish grow and prosper. Here is a 5th way to do just that!
5 Support your parish financially. You know how expensive it is to run your own home. Parishes
face even higher costs — and depend on parishioners to help
meet them. Take a serious look at the money you give to your
parish each week. Do you increase your contributions each
year as the cost of living rises? Giving to the Church is more
than just a financial obligation. Once you recognize that
everything you have is a gift from God, you see that giving
generously to continue God’s work in the parish is an essential
part of your spirituality.
“Give, and it will be given to you: good measure,
pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be
put into your lap.” — Lk. 6:38
Little Things Anyone Can Do 1. Offer to introduce family members or friends who are
going through difficult times to a priest or parish staff
member.
2. Ask new people in the neighborhood if they would
be interested in checking out your parish.

GRANDPARENTS GARDEN REVITALIZATION 2019
PLEASE PLACE YOUR ORDER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE
You and those you love can be a part of our parish Grandparents’ Garden, the Garden of Saint Ann, our patron, and her
spouse Saint Joachim—parents of Mary, grandparents of Jesus. The garden is a place where people young and old visit,
rest, and pray for themselves, their parents, grandparents, children, or grandchildren. It is a place to remember some im-
portant lessons passed on to us by those who have gone before us. The statues that grace the garden are original works
of art created by Fr. Leonard Carrieri, M.SS.CC. We are in the process of revitalizing the Grandparents’ Garden by
beautifying the plant beds, reconditioning and re-setting the benches, putting a new patina on the statues, and expanding
the hardscape. We are offering the opportunity to personalize/memorialize a brick paver in the garden—for yourself, your
family, or a loved one. Up to three lines, each containing a maximum of 15 characters (including spaces between
words) may be inscribed on a paver. To reserve a paver, COMPLETE AN ORDER FORM (found at the FDC Wel-
come Desk) and send with a $100 check to: Grandparents’ Garden, Church of Saint Ann, 1253 Lawrenceville Road,
Lawrenceville, NJ 08648. Make checks payable to ‘The Church of Saint Ann.”
