Transcript of The story of Ballybore GAA club

Once upon a time there was a GAA club

And this GAA club found itself €1000 in debt

And that’s where our story starts

www.HalfSolid.com

We will call that club Ballybore GAA club

Because that was its name

And, indeed, that is still its name

10/6/20142www.HalfSolid.com

This is their logo

The club pre-dates the GAA itself.

A meeting was called to tackle the debt.

Members came.

With serious faces.And furrowed brows.

And anxious sighs.

And no ideas.10/6/2014

Extinction loomed.

What about the kids?

What about the tradition?

What about the men of old?

What about the jersey?

Fortunately one man saw himself as a visionary.

And in the land of the blind, the one-eyed visionary is king.

He resolved to save the day.

(As others resolved to get in his way).

10/6/20146www.HalfSolid.com

And so Ballybore GAA club set about hauling themselves back from

the brink of financial ruin.

But how?

10/6/20147www.HalfSolid.com

Well, by pulling John Joe McLoughlin’s Volvo dump truck, the

new one, around the town of Ballybore.

To get in the book.

The Guinness Book of Records.

10/6/20148www.HalfSolid.com

(In case you’re wondering why they didn’t pull John Joe McLoughlin’s

Volvo dump truck, the old one, which is much smaller and lighter…

…well, the brakes were faulty, it was leaking oil, and it wasn’t taxed.

Glad to clarify that).

10/6/20149www.HalfSolid.com

Pulling a truck is no joke, you know

10/6/201410www.HalfSolid.com

But did they succeed in actually pulling it around the town?

Fast enough to get in the Guinness Book of Records?

And did they succeed in pulling themselves back from imminent

financial collapse?10/6/2014

11www.HalfSolid.com

Well, it was a 50-50 situation.

Hard to call.

Nip and tuck.

It swung this way and that.

10/6/201412www.HalfSolid.com

So close to call that instead of telling you here,

Ballybore GAA club are bringing their story on the road.

To your clubhouse, town hall or local hotel.

What other clubs have said:

Through the chair, we would highly recommend The Pull. The talent and energy of the guys in Half Solid productions is second to none. If you are looking at a novel way of having a fundraiser: 1. Run with ‘The Pull’ as

your fundraiser but 2. Try to learn from the lessons of Ballybore GAA. Well done to all concerned.

James Deane, PRO, Shannon Gaels GAA, Co. Roscommon.

Thanks to everyone in Half Solid Productions for a great night’s entertainment with The Pull here in Caherlistrane GAA Club. You put on a high-energy show with a mix of seriousness and comedy, that had even the smallest of details covered. In particular, anyone who has ever had a role in their local GAA club could relate to

the characters you portrayed to a tee, whilst those who haven’t now know what goes on!. This was a unique evening for the club to host and doubled up as a very beneficial fundraiser. Best of luck with the rest of the run

and you are welcome back to Caherlistrane any time.

Brendan Marrinan, PRO, Caherlistrane GAA, Co. Galway

We had a big turnout for The Pull in Knockaderry – and everyone really enjoyed it. If you’ve ever been to a GAA meeting, you’ll enjoy it: and, even if you haven’t, you will still recognise the characters from your local community.

John and Liam brought us on a very entertaining journey without us ever leaving our seats (well, most of us anyway!) See this show if you can.
