4 portion of the hearing now open. My name, once
5 again, is John H. Carwell, Jr. I'm the charter

9 The First State Math and Science

19 the school's charter be declined, and also to
20 receive public comments.
21 Notice of the hearing. I would like
22 the record to reflect that the notice of the
23 time, date, and place of today's public hearing

16 I think they did a good job, and I
17 know we learned a lesson this time, and probably
18 will do a better job next time, and hope that
19 we -- out of 13, we already passed 11 of them,
20 and two left on the table.
21 We'll go back and, you know, do a
22 good job, and we will come back next time.
23 Again, thank you for giving us this opportunity

1 MR. CARWELL: Good afternoon,
2 everyone. Welcome. We are going to proceed with
3 the public hearing. The sign-up sheets are right
4 there. I declare this public hearing to be open.
5 My name is John Carwell, Jr. I'm the charter

13 Further, the applicant was notified
14 of the time, date, and place of today's public

16 A court reporter is present so that
17 a record of this hearing can be made. It will be
18 necessary for each speaker to speak clearly, to

20 speak, so that the court reporter will be able to
21 note who you are.
22 The record of this hearing will be

1 with any written or electronic comments received
2 at or before this meeting or hearing. And we
3 have not received any comments for this hearing.
4 So, in order of procedure, we'll
5 proceed in the following manner: First, we will
6 hear from any representatives of the charter
7 school who wish to comment on the committee's
8 final report. Then we will take comments from
9 anyone else who desires to speak.
10 There are sign-up sheets at the back
11 of the room, and is there anyone who wishes to
12 speak not signed up? All right.
13 If you desire to speak, and you have
14 not signed up, please do so now. Could I have a
15 show of hands of who will be speaking?
16 UNIDENTIFIED SPEAKER: Well, we all
17 signed the list, but we thought it was a sign-in
18 sheet, so --
19 MR. CARWELL: That would explain the
20 looks back and forth.
21 MR. HINDMAN: If I can intervene,
22 then, I would simply ask, is there anyone here
23 who desires to give any comment at this time?
24 And if you'd come forward and identify yourself,

1 please.
2 MR. FREDIE: Sure. Edwin P. Fredie.
3 I'm from Moyer Academy, vice president of school
4 solutions for K-12. My statement is short and
5 sweet. The school, the faculty, the children,
6 and the parents of Moyer Academy wish to thank
7 the review team and the Department of Education
8 for the very thorough and exacting review, the
9 high standards that they placed for the receiving
10 of a charter. But more importantly, the level of
11 openness and directness that allowed us to get to
12 this point.
13 So, we're most appreciative of the
14 process. We thank you very much for your
15 diligence. It will make us a better and stronger
16 school, and we certainly appreciate the many,
17 many hours that the review team put into
18 examining, discussing, evaluating, and
19 reexamining our presentations. So, thank you
20 very much.
21 MR. CARWELL: Thank you, Dr. Fredie.
22 And at this point, I'll accept any other comments
23 from this applicant before we close.
24 Okay. I just wanted to provide that

1 opportunity. So I want to thank you all for
2 participating today, and for your due diligence.
3 The Secretary will consider your comments in
4 deciding what recommendation to propose for the
5 consent of the State Board.
6 So, this portion of the hearing for
7 the New Maurice J. Moyer Academy is concluded.
8 Thank you.
