• Qatar and the Middle East

After years of planning and preparation,

2015 will see Qatar move into the next phase

of development as the country progresses

towards World Cup 2022. In recent reports,

Qatar will begin issuing tenders for

projects in the first quarter of

2015, with five stadiums expected to be in

different stages of construction by the end of

2015. These include the Lusail Iconic Stadium,

Al Wakrah Stadium, Al Rayyan, Education

City and Khalifa International Stadium.

To support healthy communities and promote

sport development, Oman, UAE and Saudi

Arabia are also currently engaged in a series

of projects. These include stadiums, sporting

academies and multi-purpose sporting

venues. Several of these projects are either

underway or scheduled for tender soon. 2015

will see the completion of the much awaited

King Abdulaziz Sport City Stadium in Jeddah,

the handover of Al Ain’s new Hazza bin Zayed

Stadium, tender issues for at least three new

facilities in Oman and the start of a proposed

new stadium in the UAE.

Workshop on workers health safety:

• The employer or his representative must explain to the workers the hazards of the job and the protection methods available.

• The employer shall post in clear locations detailed instructions regarding the prevention of fires and the protection of workers from any hazards they may face while performing their duties.

• Employers who employ 50 or more workers must provide a first aid box for every 50 workers, equipped with medicine, bandages and disinfectants which may be needed during an accident or an injury to a worker.

• Each box must be kept within easy reach of all workers. One expert worker shall be assigned the duties of applying first aid when needed.

• This training introduces workers to the Occupational Health and Safety Act. It focuses on the health and safety rights and responsibilities of workers, supervisors and employers. It also serves as a general introduction to workplace health and safety.

• Workers can use this free training program as one way to meet the minimum training required by the Occupational Health and Safety Awareness and Training regulation.
