When he arrived in Corinth, he was proba- bly exhausted from his journey from Athens. He may also have been discouraged because of his seemingly unsuccessful ministry there (Acts 17:16-34). He later wrote, “I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling” ( 1 Cor. 2:3). Aq- uila and Priscilla probably met Paul in the marketplace of Corinth and opened their home to him. They provided a spiritual oasis through Chrisan hospitality. Hospitality Wins! By Pastor George

If you follow the “Our Daily Bread” devotional, the following will look familiar (from 7/15/12 entry):

In Outlive Your Life, Max Lucado writes: “Hospitality opens the door to uncommon community. It’s no accident that hospitality and hospital come from the same Latin word, for they both lead to the same result: healing. When you open your door to someone, you are sending this message: ‘You matter to me and to God.’ You may think you are saying, ‘Come over for a visit.’ But what your guest hears is, ‘I’m worth the effort.’” This is what the apostle Paul must have heard and felt when Aquila and Priscilla opened the doors of their home to him. When he arrived in Corinth, he was proba-bly exhausted from his journey from Athens. He may also have been discouraged because of his seemingly unsuccessful ministry there (Acts 17:16-34). He later wrote, “I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling” (1 Cor. 2:3). Aq-uila and Priscilla probably met Paul in the marketplace of Corinth and opened their home to him. They provided a spiritual oasis through Christian hospitality. As followers of Jesus, we are called to be hospitable, to be a “hospital” that helps those who are going through life’s storms and need restoration. We can be used by the Lord because He has provided for us.

Christian hospitality is an open heart and an open home.

Prayer Ministry News: 30 Days of Prayer!

September 9th - October 9th Mark your calendars to partici-pate in 30 Days of Prayer for our students! This will replace “Prayer that Binds Generations” which we did the past 2 years. Instead, we will do a 30 day, inten-sive focus, on our students. After the service on Sept. 9th, you will have the opportunity to draw the name of a student as you leave. This is the young person you will pray for. There many pressures on our youth and chil-dren. We want to pray for their protection, for their success in academics, for Godly relationships, for families as they adjust to the school year. “The earnest, heartfelt, continued prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available, dy-namic in its working.” James 5:17 (amp) Monthly Healing Prayer Watch continues— Our next Prayer Fo-cus on Healing will be September 18th 7:00-8:00 PM. Bring your requests for healing as we join together to bring these many needs before God. “…pray for one another, that you may be healed and restored.” James 5: 16 Prayer Ministry continues to meet every Tuesday for prayer. Join us at 6:30 PM in the prayer room.

Don’t forget to update your Church Directory...

Youth News — By Karen Nye, Youth Ministry Director

Wow what an energetic start I was given with the youth this summer. I thank you all for the support and prayers in my new ad-venture.

Taco Tuesdays were a blast. We stayed at the Youth House for our Hunger games theme and then headed out for some ad-ventures. Laser tag, GoKarts and wrapped it up with Paintballing. I would like to thank the boys for NOT going easy on me…………

Several youth went on a mission trip with Sharon Seeley & Pastor George June 17- 22 called “Week of Hope”. I had breakfast (3 hours long) with one of the youth who attended and heard so many amazing stories of the Lord’s work while they were there.

Several youth and adults served a one day mission at the Emmaus home on July 19th and what a gift this was to us! We spent the day painting, cutting down trees, cleaning up the creek and then spent the evening with some of the residents playing games, singing and dancing. The memories made were priceless and something that will remain in our hearts forever.

We landed a fundraising opportunity at the Washington Town and Country Fair. St. Paul’s Teen Adventures operated a Taco Stand in the main food court. Although we do not know what we earned yet, we do know our sales nearly doubled from the previous year. Sixty volunteers were needed to make this happen. The Lord provided and made it happen. Thank you to all who helped and dedicated so much of your time.

Summer is ending and a new school year is starting. As the youth start to study and hit the books at school, we also need to encourage them to hit the Book with the Lord. Most of our youth are involved with some type of school activity-band, orches-tra, sports and cheerleading are just a few. Practice prepares them to perform these activities to their best ability. God’s word and dedicated prayer is also the practice needed to prepare them and help them perform their best in life………….I chal-lenge everyone at our church to ask a youth to tell them what the GOSPEL means. Wherever you see them……..Church, School, Wal-Mart and/or a fast food place. We will call it the GOSPEL Challenge. Email me the name of the youth who is suc-cessful at this. Each Youth Sunday (first Sunday of each month) I will draw a name and the youth will receive a prize. When the youth keep His word in their hearts and in their minds they will be able to conquer our first strategy and checkpoint-

Checkpoint 1-Authentic Faith- True faith is confidence that God is who he says He is……

Proverbs 3:5-6-Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

As youth director one of my main objectives is to come up with a Strategy for our youth that will grow them stronger each year in their faith and walk with the Lord so when they graduate and prepare for the next season in their life they have a relationship with the Lord that will go with them. I will have an outline and details of this 7 Checkpoint Strategy in the October Newsletter.

Youth T-Shirt Design Contest All youth (7th -12th grade) are encouraged to submit a T-Shirt Design no later than September 30, 2012. The win-ner will receive $100 and his/her design will be used for our first Youth Shirt. St. Paul’s Teen Adventures will be the name on the shirt repre-senting the youth. The winner will be announced at the 10:30am wor-ship service on Sunday, October 7, 2012.

Passport to Purity is a program that we are looking into offering to our youth as

a mother/daughter and father/son weekend. More details to follow.

ATTENTION YOUTH... Be sure to sign the “Thank You” card in the lobby…

AND... let’s personally deliver this and get a photo. Please contact me if you are available to do this September 3, 2012 after the 1030AM service. Teen Extreme-tickets will

be purchased and distributed on a first come basis. Dates are Dec 27-Dec 29. Youth are halfway through the school year at this point and what a way to spirit-ually refuel and recharge going into the New Year. Check it out http://

A history test for you! By the 150th Anniversary Committee

In 1870 additional cemetery lots were purchased

In 1875 a school house was built

In 1879 additional cemetery ground purchased – 2 acres at $ 65 per acre

In 1881 That the congregation cut and halves 20 cord wood to heat the school, church and parsonage

In 1888 to build a new barn at contract price $101.85

In 1888 it was decided to build a hen house on the parson-age ground

In 1890 a balcony was built

In 1890 it was decided that a rest room for the school and church be built

In 1891 It was decided that 300 bricks be purchased and laid down as a walk from the church door to the street

In 1893 members appointed went to George Kilgan Organ builders – here they offered the lowest price at $350 and a better grade for $400. The congregation took a vote on this matter and they were for buying the $400 instrument 13 votes and for the $350 organ were 7 votes. The company did not consider a trade in of the old organ.

In 1894 It was decided that the old pipe organ, now be given to the Emmaus Home
