Prayer for Priests

O Jesus, Eternal High Priest, live in

(name of priest), speak in and through

him. Think your thoughts in his mind,

love through his heart. Give him your

own dispositions and feelings. Teach, lead and guide him always. Correct, enlighten and

expand his thoughts and behavior. Possess his soul;

him with yourself. Incline him to constant adoration and thanksgiving; pray in and through him. Let him

live in you and keep him in this intimate union

always. O Mary, Immaculate Conception, Mother of

Jesus and Mother of priests, pray and intercede for

(…) Amen.

St. Monica – St. Michael School

Notes & News Principal Brenda S. Buzzell, M.Ed.

“Excellence in Education, Values & Leadership”

Page 7 Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord March 24 - 25, 2018

St. Monica – St. Michael School’s mission is to nurture the spiritual, intellectual, and physical growth of our

students. We share an active appreciation for learning, and a love and respect for God, self, and others.

Our Catholic school is where faith, friendship, and knowledge grow!

Notes from Gym

As the Olympics were underway in Pyeongchang, students here in Barre learned about

many winter sports. We used our imaginations to try ski jumping, curling, ice hockey,

ice dancing, biathlon, luge, and bobsled. Our PE lessons are developed around the

SHAPE America National Standards and this gave us the opportunity to develop our

skills in many of the categories such as striking with a long implement (hockey and

curling), dance (figure skating), jumping and landing (ski jumping). We also were ex-

cited to celebrate the US Women's Hockey Team's win over Canada as a St. Michael's

School alum brought a gold medal home to central Vermont.

"My goal in physical education is for students to develop a lifelong desire to be active. According to the World Health

Organization, globally, 1 in 4 adults do not participate in enough physical activity to reap the health benefits including

a reduced risk of depression, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. My goals is that every St.

Monica - St. Michael student will, through the varied activities offered in PE class, find an activity that brings them

joy. For that reason, we do a combination of both team and individual; competitive and co-

operative sports and games to build skills, strength and stamina. We also focus a lot on so-

cial and emotional learning, including what it means to be a good teammate and how to

show sportsmanship. At the end of the day, I don't want the students to care as much about

if they win or lose a game as I want them to care if they had fun and made sure their team-

mates and opponents did as well. It is only through the enjoyment of exercise that students

will make it a lifelong habit. Many of our students participate in competitive sports on local

teams and we often discuss the value of "cross-training" for athletes. For example, they

learned that Tom Brady does yoga and that yoga, and other activities in PE will help them

build strength and body awareness that will prove helpful in their chosen sport!"

Common Misconceptions about Suicide

Myth: People who talk about suicide won’t really do it. Almost everyone who attempts suicide has given some clue or warning. Don’t ignore even indirect references to death or suicide. Statements such as “You’ll be sorry when I’m gone,” “I can’t see any way out,” jokingly said, may indicate serious suicidal feelings.

Myth: People who die by suicide are people who were unwilling to seek help. Studies of suicide victims have shown that more than half had sought medical help in the six months prior to their deaths.

Preventing suicide is a community effort. Yes, it starts with the family, but Extends to neighbors, schools, and other organizations. At every level, people have different roles to perform
