A PERSONAL MESSAGE FROM HAL SHEVERS

A HEARTYTHANK YOU

TO OUR DONORS!

If you’re a pilot, you would be jealous of the view from my office. It’s a simple place – no leather couches or plush carpeting, but it’s the best place for me. All day long I look out the floor-to-ceiling windows and watch airplanes taking off and landing. I see flight instructors and their students, businessmen leaving for a trip and friends preflighting for a pleasure flight. As I said, it’s the best view for me.

I am grateful for this unique office view, just as I am for my decades-long career in aviation. I can’t think of a better career, and my gratitude for all the pleasure that aviation has provided Sandy and me is the desire to give back. With that in mind, we launched The Sporty’s Foundation to fund organizations which attract people to aviation, which chronicle our rich history, which work to provide the next generation of pilots and technicians. We need a robust group of people who follow in our footsteps and reap all the lifestyle and career benefits that aviation has to offer. Specifically, we need to keep general aviation healthy.

In the next few pages, you’ll see our efforts for 2018. We’ve funded scholarships, donated to museums, enhanced Aviation Exploring, along with a number of other financial grants to enrich aviation and attract more young people. I’ve said this before, but it’s important that you know that Sporty’s underwrites all the administrative costs of The Sporty’s Foundation. Unlike other charities with exorbitant executive salaries and overhead, every dollar you donate goes directly to the programs – right down to the last dime.

For those of us to whom aviation means so much and has given us so much, we are called to give back. Won’t you join me?

We are grateful for the individuals and organizations who have generously donated

to The Sporty’s Foundation to help us fund worthwhile efforts to help expand and

preserve the aviation community.

DEDICATED TO GUIDING YOUNG PEOPLE TO AN AVIATION CAREER

In addition to supporting Women in Aviation International with scholarships, Sporty’s has also been a supporter of Girls in Aviation Day since its inception. This past year, thousands of girls worldwide from ages 8 to 17 were introduced to the career and lifestyle benefits of aviation. Sporty’s supports Girls in

Aviation Day by supplying the official FAA teaching sectional chart so volunteer mentor/pilots are able to teach the girls the skill of reading a sectional chart.

The reverse side of the chart carries additional instructional content such as the phonetic alphabet and an illustration of the Four Forces of Flight. This resource, supplied by Sporty’s, is one way to show the

girls that a pilot career is possible for them. Sporty’s also hosts a Girls in Aviation Day event in partnership with WAI’s Cincinnati chapter.IN

EXPLORER SCHOLARSHIPMegan Ryan is just one of dozens of Aviation Explorers who has benefited from The Sporty’s Foundation Explorer scholarships. These scholarships are for Aviation Explorers who are planning to participate in any aspect of aviation studies in college. This year, The Sporty’s Foundation funded all of the Aviation Explorer scholarships in a desire to help those young people who have already expressed an interest in an aviation career through their Aviation Exploring involvement and their choice of study.

As college costs escalate, well-trained pilots are crucial for the future of aviation. The University of Cincinnati’s Professional Pilot program includes many dedicated students with a goal of an aviation career. These students benefit greatly from the financial assistance of The Sporty’s Foundation.
