Brush Creek Baptist Church • 5345 Airport Road • Bear Creek, NC 27207 • 919/742-3221 Volume 48 February 2020 Number 2 The Source February is often regarded as the month of love. It’s a month in which people declare their mutual love for one another through the giving of flowers, cards, and chocolates. It’s a month of seeing the ubiquitous colors of red, pink and purple. It’s a month of romantic movies that conjure up feelings of romance and matrimonial expectations. Indeed, February is the month of love! Now if you were to ask my wife she would openly confess her addiction. As a raging chocoholic, she is open to receiving chocolate any time of the year. Yes, over the years and on more than a few occasions, I have received a call from my bride requesting that I pick her up a chocolate treat on my way home. By the way, I live by the old saying, “Happy wife, happy life”. Therefore, I’ve conceded to her requests at least 99% of the time. You may be wondering, “Pastor Frank, why all this talk about chocolate?” And I will answer by pointing out that, for my wife, chocolate is not just for February. Chocolate is for any and every day for the rest of her life. Consider with me how this reflects our desire for Jesus. Some will only desire to worship Jesus during certain times of the year. Others will show a desire to worship Him at certain times of the week. While others, still, desire to worship Him every day of the week and year. Now, how does Jesus compare to chocolate? I’ll let you think about that for a moment. But I will say that like chocolate, knowing and worshipping Jesus gets sweeter and sweeter the older I get. And concerning the month of February and the association of love, it is a great reality for us just to know how much our God loves us. Regardless of our shortcomings, He undeniably loves us. But we may never know in this life the true extent of His love. My family and I send you our love and appreciation as we serve you all this month. We love serving you and consider you our near and dear family. May our God whom we continually serve, bless you from the heavenly places, and cause His face to shine upon you! In Christ, Pastor Frank

MISSIONSAnother month has passed us by,

but not without blessings. We would firstlike to give thanks to the Lord for His

blessings, and also thank you as a church family for yourparticipation in our mission projects. On the bulletinboard please note we have received a thank you letterfrom the VA in Des Moines, Iowa for our Christmas inAugust donations and from Bennett school for your snackdonations. Also a GREAT BIG shout out to you forreaching and going above the goal of $1200 for our LottieMoon Offering / IMB. (actual collected - $1286.00)

February is a month of LOVE with Valentine’sDay. So again, we will boost our Reach Out CrisisPregnancy Center mission as I tell you what we havedone this past year. Thank you for increasing your givingand donations to this needed mission to save lives. Lastyear we collected 774.81, which greatly exceeded ourprevious year. This year we also want to continue givingto this ministry by sponsoring the amount needed forclients to be served by the ROCPC. The new director isDianna Andrews. I spoke with them to increase myknowledge of how we can help and how they help others. It takes a certain amount of overhead to minister to theseyoung women. The cost of each client that accepts helpis $200 over a 12 week learning program that givesinformation and assistance in decision making and sharingthe Gospel. This money includes – free pregnancytesting, counseling, and literature to educatethe mother on the life of a fetus from thebeginning of conception, and howimportant it is to save each life created. Mygoal for this coming year is to providemoney to fund at least four clients a year($800 = 66.66 per month or $15.38 perweek) as well as giving material donationsas needed for the mothers.

I realized that some of these mothers may alsohave children at home that need care. So with our smallchange collection I would like to give what they call“Baby Bucks”. If you want to give over and above yoursmall change just label the offering envelope “BabyBucks”. The mothers earn Baby Bucks from attendingclasses to receive additional items needed for their babyand family. The center tries to stock new diapers andformula in addition to donated items of cribs, baby seats, strollers, clothes and other baby products. Please join usin this expanded mission effort. If you have questionsplease ask Jessica Brooks, Pastor Frank or myself.

Reflectionsby Frances Gilmore

“We know love by this, that He laid down His life forus;” ~ 1 John 3:16

February is the month of love and in thismonth we celebrate Valentine’s Day. No sooner isChristmas decorations put away that the Valentineparaphernalia is put on display. There are manyvarieties of heart shaped valentines, teddy bears, andof course the boxes and boxes of chocolates.

Love can be expressed in many ways . . . abeautiful bought valentine with a perfect verse or ahomemade imperfectly cut valentine with misspelledwords . . . a big box of the most expensive chocolatesor in a single serving, or one tiny conversation heart .. . a bakery decorated cake or a single cupcake . . . agift of favorite perfume or cologne or a complimentthat sounds sweet to the ear . . . a singing telegram orjust a friendly call or a card in the mail . . . a wavefrom a friend passing by or a smile from a perfectstranger . . . saying, “I love you” or better yet, provingyour love each day.

Love can be remembered by thoughts ofyesterday triggered by souvenirs of younger days. This could be a love letter from your first love or fromthe one to whom you are now married. Or it could befrom your children or even your parents. It could befrom an old, faded, lace-torn valentine from manyyears ago or from an old photograph in a high schoolyearbook. In fact, memories of love can be sparkedfrom any memory of souvenir that helps us toremember special friendships or relationships.

Love can also be remembered in how it wasonce displayed. No greater love has ever beendisplayed than when Jesus died on the cross asredemption for our sins. At that time Jesus saw twoprisoners, one on either side of him. Each prisonerwas given the chance to spend eternity in Heaven. One made the choice to accept the love of Jesus andis spending eternity in a place where love and peaceabound. The other rejected Jesus and mocked himand thus, will forever be lost in a place of sufferingand torment. (Luke 23)

Jesus did not die that day just to give twoprisoners a choice. He looked across time and spaceand saw you and me. He saw our mothers and fathers. He saw our brothers and sisters, our aunts, uncles, cousins and neighbors. And he saw our friends. Today the choice still exists. Would you choose loveto last an eternity? I hope you do! _
