All About Our Solar System○ The Universe is made up of eight planets, which include their natural satellites. ○ The Sun is considered the center of our Solar System and is also a star, made up of a ball of gas.○ Our eight planets orbit around the sun in a pattern and has a temperature of about 15 million degrees Celsius or 27 degrees Fahrenheit. ○ What is a planet? – A planet is a natural object that is massive enough for gravity to make spherical that orbits around the sun. ○ Meteors and Meteorites: ▪ They vary in size. ▪ They begin as meteorites which are chunks of rock and debris from space. ▪ They are either iron, stony, or stony-iron.

Exploring Our Solar System

○ Go to this website to learn more about our Solar System and about the different planets http://solarsystem.nasa.gov/planets/ ○ Pluto was once considered a planet, until things started to change in the 1990s when astronomers found new discoveries.○ About 4.6 billion years ago, the Solar System was formed.○ Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars are the four closest planets to the Sun and are called the terrestrial planets because of their solid, rocky surfaces.

Summary○ In this lesson the students will have learned all about the Solar System and be able to give the correct order of them. They will have looked at different pictures of the planets and learned facts about each of them.

○ Students will also have learned about the history and upcoming of the Solar System. Given questions about the Solar System, the students will be able to choose from multiple choice questions and answer with their knowledge the questions given to them.

○ The students will also have taken notes from the website given for future work or remembrance of facts about the Solar System.
