Today’s Scripture:
“The Sower” (1888) Vincent Van Gogh

“Vincent van Gogh’s Sower with Setting Sun
changed my life. Although I had been surrounded by
art and architecture of great significance all of
my life, I did not have the eyes to really see the art.
I don’t know why this painting presented itself in
a new way.
“…However, when I en-countered Sower with
Setting Sun… I understood it as something more than
a picture…. I knew the parable of the sower. I knew I was the soil….
I understood that Vincent was challenging me to
open myself to it, to let the work take root in me.”

And as he was saying these things,
Luke 8:9-10
And when his disciples asked himwhat this parable meant, he said,“To you it has been given to know the secrets of the kingdom of God,but for others they are in parables,

And he said, “Go, and say to this people:

keep on seeing, but do not perceive.’” ~ Isaiah 6:9-10

‘The pleasures of this life…’—these are not evil in themselves. These are not
vices. These are gifts of God. They are your basic meat and potatoes and coffee
and gardening and reading and decorating and traveling and investing and TV-watching and Internet-surfing
and shopping and exercising and collecting and talking. And all of them
can become deadly substitutes for God.

~ The Apostle Peter in 1 Peter 1:23, 25
“…you have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable,
through the living and abiding !word of God….And this word is the !
good news that was preached to you.”
Why does Luke include this teaching of Jesus
in his historical biography?
Important Question
Only the grace-tilled heart that is open to the Good News of Jesus Christ will produce a lasting harvest both in this life
and for eternity.
Ask Jesus for a
good heart.

My people come to you, as they usually do, and sit before you to listen to your words,
but they do not put them into practice. With their mouths they express devotion, but their
hearts are greedy for unjust gain. Indeed, you are nothing more than one who sings love songs with a beautiful voice and plays
an instrument well, for they hear your words, but do not put them into practice.
