PREPARATION:This piece comes almost ready to paint. Use a soft cloth to remove any dust or grime that may have accumulated during shipping. If any imperfection should appear in the piece, they are easily sanded. Then rewipe with the soft cloth. I like to spray the sur-face before painting with Americana’s Acrylic Spray Sealer/Finisher #70836.

PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS:Basecoat as follows:

Yellow Green – Basecoat the “gown” and the cuff s on the coat. Leave the checks at the bottom of the gown as is.

Chartreuse Yellow – Drybrush a highlight down the middle of the “gown”

Purple Pizzazz – Basecoat the coat leaving the trim along the bottom and along the front edges as is.

Bright Yellow – Basecoat the scarf

Black – Basecoat the hat leaving the hatband and holly as is. Basecoat the mittens

Honey Brown – Basecoat the bag and handle on the bag. Also, the handle of the bell and the dinger.

White – Basecoat the face leaving the nose as is.

Purple Pizzazz – Basecoat the hatband

Hauser Medium Green – Basecoat the holly

Bronze Extreme Sheen – Basecoat the bell

Jack-o-Lantern Orange – Basecoat the nose

SHADING AND HIGHLIGHTINGHauser Medium Green – Using your #8 fl at, fl oat a shade on the “gown” where is comes from under the coat

Black Plum – Float a shade next to the trim on the front of the coat, next to the trim at the bottom of the coat, under the scarf, where the scarf falls over the coat and next to the cuff s. Along both sides of the handle of the bag, front and back. Float a shade on the hatband where it goes under the holly.

Since the coat has a vintage feel, darken the areas where worn areas appear. I then used the fl oated color technique to bring up more streaks from the bottom of the coat, making these random and ir-regular.

Yellow Green and Purple Pizzazz – Using your #2 fl at, base in the stripes on the scarf and the checks at the bottom of the gown. I did these alternating the colors.

Yellow Green – Float a wash of color over the scarf’s fringe, wiping off the excess, leaving the darker color between the fringe lines.

Yellow Ochre – Drybrush a shade along the creases in the scarf

Hauser Dark Green – Using your #1 liner, add the veins in the holly.

Hauser Light Green – Float a highlight on the raised edges of the holly

Cherry Red – Basecoat the berries

Burnt Umber –With your #8 fl at fl oat a shade on the bag under the top that folds down, where the strap connects to the bag on each side and where the strap goes under the scarf. Float a shade along the bottom of the bell and on the handle of the bell. Add a wash of color to the nose, wiping off the excess, leaving the dark color in the creases of the nose. (The same technique that was used on the fringe of the scarf.)

FACEBlack – Add the eyes with your stylist or the tip of your liner. Using your liner, add the mouth and the smile lines at both ends of the mouth

Cherry Red and White – Make a mix of these two colors for the cheeks. Drybrush the cheeks.

Transfer the pattern for the 50¢ Snowballs to the bag.

White – Basecoat the snowballs and the sign with the wording and cost

Payne’s Grey – Blending this color well, place a fl oat on the left side of each snow-ball.

White – Float a highlight on the right side of each snowball, if needed. Add a white line under the three snowballs.

FINISHING: Spray with several coats of Americana’s Sealer/Finisher # 70836.
