Paul Kasmin Gallery TEFAF Maastricht, Modern March 14 – 23, 2014 Stand 445 Paul Kasmin Gallery is pleased to participate for the first time in TEFAF, March 14 - 23, 2014, Stand 445 with an exhibition showcasing the gallery’s dedication to both masters of modernism and influential contemporary artists. The gallery will present a selection of artworks by Constantin Brancusi, William N. Copley, Max Ernst, Walton Ford, Simon Hantaï, David Hockney, Morris Louis, Robert Motherwell, Jules Olitski, Chaim Soutine, Frank Stella, Dorothea Tanning, Andy Warhol, and Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne. Following the exhibition Brancusi in New York 1913-2013, our celebration of Constantin Brancusi's debut at the Armory Show in 1913, the gallery will further highlight the continued relevance of the artist at TEFAF Maastricht. The gallery will exhibit three photographs by Brancusi, including The Sleeping Muse and La Colonne Sans Fin, Targu-Jiu. Brancusi’s photographs of his sculptures highlight their exquisite form, and his tutelage in photography under Man Ray. In concurrence with Alexander the Great: The Iolas Gallery 1955-1987, March 6 - April 26, 2014 at 293 Tenth Avenue, New York, an exhibition of artists championed by Alexander Iolas, the gallery will exhibit several artworks by William N. Copley, Max Ernst, Dorothea Tanning, Andy Warhol, and Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne, at TEFAF Maastricht. This will include an illustrative collection of Les Lalanne's surrealist and whimsical portfolio, with works such as Claude Lalanne’s Crococonsoles and François-Xavier Lalanne’s Gorille Derange. Highlights will also include Sous les ponts de Paris by Ernst, Tanning's Study for Les Infatigables (Indefatigables), and Copley's Dark Victory. From Warhol, who had his first exhibition in 1952 at the Iolas-directed Hugo Gallery, we will present Sidney Janis, a commissioned portrait of the fellow art collector and gallery owner. To coincide with the gallery's presentation of Jules Olitski: Mitt Paintings, March 6 – April 19, 2014 at 515 West 27th Street, New York, we will exhibit Ascension at TEFAF Maastricht; an Olitski work that exemplifies the unique process of his “mitt pictures.” Using painter's mitts to spread acrylics across canvas, Olitski created textural imprints that recorded his active gestures. From Simon Hantaï, the gallery presents Meun (1967) a work that was included in the late painter’s retrospective at the Centre Pompidou in 2013. From Walton Ford, the gallery will exhibit Sensations of an Infant Heart, a watercolor work inspired by James Audubon’s Story of His Youth. Ford will present a solo exhibition of new watercolors at Paul Kasmin Gallery opening on May 1, 2014.
