GSDCA Membership Directory Info

February 9, 2006 Dear GSDCA Members: As we prepare to print a current GSDCA Member-ship Handbook/Directory we are now inviting GSDCA Members to par-ticipate in advertising. The GSDCA 2006 Hand-book/Directory will include the Bylaws, a list of all GSDCA Committees, edu-cational articles of interest and commercial ads only from those approved com-panies who have sup-ported the GSDCA in the past. This will be the first year that we will accept advertisements for the sale of puppies, stud dogs and kennel ads which is offered to GSDCA members only. This is a great opportunity to place your advertise-ment in the homes of the GSDCA membership of approximately 3,700 mem-

bers and you know how many times each year you use the Directory, make your ad work for you all year. The Membership Hand-book/Directory is distrib-uted, free of charge, to all current members and all new members joining dur-ing the year (approximately 400 new applications every year). Our members use the handbook very fre-quently, to look up ad-dresses, phone numbers, etc. and also to review club benefits such as special awards qualifications, events, etc. Cost for a full page ad is only $100 and special placement pages are $200 - all ads must be camera ready. To place your ad in the upcoming 2006 Mem-bership Hand-

book/Directory, please send your email to Dania Karloff at [email protected] or USPS ad-dress Dania Karloff, 2136 Mount Pleasant Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23322. If you know of a commer-cial entity that would like to advertise in the handbook, please let them know. THANKS ALL for your help and cooperation with this project. It is our goal to make the handbook a self-sustaining endeavor and a great resource of informa-tion for our members. Sincerely, Dania Karloff GSDCA Membership Com-mittee

Currently our net financial improvement for 2005 was $21,693. This will be affected by closing year end journal entries and will most likely be lower. AKC Delegate Report: The following change in the Rules was passed at the AKC Delegates Meeting this month. The Event Committee is the same as the show or bench show committee. The AKC used that language to cover all events rather than having a bench show committee, obedience trial committee, tracking test committee, Hunting test committee, etc." The wording, which is to go at the end of Chapter 11, Section 8A, is: "Any dog that in the opinion of the event committee, attacks any person or dog, resulting in an injury, and is believed to be a hazard to persons or other dogs, shall be filed with the Executive Secretary of The American Kennel Club. The disqualified dog may not again com-pete at any AKC event nor be on the grounds of an AKC event unless and until, following application for reinstatement by the owner to The American Kennel Club, the owner receives official notification in writing from AKC that the dog's eligibility has been reinstated." Budget and Finance Committee: The Budgets for all Committees were reviewed and a preliminary budget was developed. At the January Board Meeting, after committee chairpersons are approved, Gary will share with each chairperson their proposed budget. At the April 2006 meeting, The Budget and Finance Commit-tee will review any changes submitted by chairpersons. A final budget recommendation will be presented to the Board in April. Futurities: There will be a link on the Parent Club web-site dedicated to information related to the Futu-rity/Maturity system. Forms, closing dates, fees, judges, site information, and Specialty shows in con-junction with futurities are an example. Changes in requirements to be eligible to judge Futurity: A. Candidates that have previously judged a Futu-rity/Maturity in the US or Canada will not be required to have attended the GSDCA judging seminar. B. Candi-dates may now judge 25 total dogs in an AKC sanc-tioned all breed matches. (Rather than 25 Herding Breeds.) Bios of judges that have assignments will also be listed on this Futurity page. Grace Fitzgerald has approval as the new West Regional Chair - Host club GSDC of the Quad Cities in 2007. Heidi Kuell is ap-proved as the NE Regional Chair - Host club GSDC of Southern New Hampshire. In addition to Sponsorship for our Futurities Purina is working with us to offer exciting educational programs and events in conjunction with our Futurities and to relieve some of the financial bur-dens that Regional clubs face in hosting Futurities. Rockwood Dr., Phoenix, AZ 85050. Membership Committee: This year we will publish a new Mem-bership Handbook and will, once again, partially finance this project by selling ads. As we did last year, the Membership Committee will follow up (by e-mail and by phone) on members who did not renew their membership. The goal is to encourage renewal and gain information of what we can do to keep mem-bers' commitment. We have outlined a Departed Members' program to honor recently deceased members and those who have significantly and positively impacted the breed or the GSDCA.

The purpose of the contest is to encourage clubs towards better communi-cation and education efforts. We are in a period of changing and improving technology and are trying to address many concerns voiced to us throughout the year. Some clubs have gone to digital versions which save the club the cost of printing so we will accept those digital files as a pdf mailed directly to the Newsletter Committee. RALEEF - Responsible Animal Legislation Education Effort Foundation: RALEEF is a new committee estab-lished with the full support of the Officers and Board of the GSDCA, Paul Root is the Chairman. We are educa-tion oriented and will be offering said education through-out the years events. Look for a RALEEF sign at an event near you. There are groups of people out there who don't want you to own your dogs let alone exhibit them in our sport. They are Animal Rights Activists. Their groups all have names that are shortened with acronyms. Remember there is a huge difference be-tween Animal Rights and Animal Welfare. You are an Animal Welfarist…and that's a good thing. The AR's goals are reflected in the Animal Rights Agenda. Red Book Committee: 2004 Red Books are completely sold out. A limited number of 2003 Red Books are still available for sale. Anne & Jack Westin have been vacationing in France since before Christmas. They will be returning Feb. 23rd. They got to watch a 7 month old GS puppy com-pete in a contest to sniff out truffles along with a famous truffle sniffing pig. It seems they are also using dogs now to track down the elu-sive and expensive truffles in Europe. She said it was quite a hoot to watch! Peggy Douglas is back from a 2 week vacation in Australia. Aside from taking about 52 hours to get there she had a great time visiting with old friends. Al Booty is home from the hospital and doing well.
