CHURCHWIDE CHRISTMAS CAROLING Saturday, December 20

6:00 p.m. Meet @ the Parish Hall

The group will travel to some homes and sing some Christmas songs

for our folks who can’t get out to enjoy the Christmas season. All ages are welcome! We will travel by church bus or individual vehicles. Dress

for the weather…rain or shine! Bring small flashlights or book lights. When we return, there

will be hot chocolate/cider & cookies!

CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTIONS & YEAR END What it means for you, the church, and the IRS

Contributors must deliver checks on or by December 31st, 2014 in order to claim a charitable contribution deduction for 2014. Checks that are placed in the church offering during the first worship service in 2015 will not qualify for a charitable contribution deduction in 2014, even if the check is predated to 2014 or was actually written in 2014.

However, checks that are written, mailed, and postmarked in 2014 will be deductible in 2014 though they are not received by the church until 2015. The deadline for contributions received in the mail postmarked December 31, 2014 is January 3, 2014. Any contributions received after this date will be applied to 2015.

To ensure the deductibility of your church contributions, please do not file your 2014 income tax return until you have received your year-end contribution statement from the church. Under IRS rules, you may lose your deduction for some or all of your contributions if you file your tax return before receiving a written acknowledgement of your 2014 contributions from the church. Year-end contribution statements will be mailed and postmarked no later than January 31, 2015.

If you are donating stock, please allow at least four weeks for the funds to be transferred to the church by December 31st or you may miss all of the above deadlines! If the deadlines are missed, your stock contribution will be applied to 2015. -Thank you, The Finance Office of NFUMC

WORSHIP TASK FORCE

We wanted to contact you regarding some of the decisions we have reached regarding the

worship schedule. The members of the committee spent a good deal of time in

prayer, fasting, meeting and talking with staff, with congregation members, and with other committee members. We looked at whether to change the meeting time of the Connect service to allow one person on the ministry staff to preach at the 8:30 traditional, the

11:00 traditional service and at the Connect service at 9:45 all in the same day. Utilizing this type of schedule would require that we

retain the current Sunday school hour for the traditional service members and add another

one to allow Connect service members to attend Sunday school at the 11:00 hour. We also looked at the addition of a children’s service at 11:00 as part of that proposal.

We have decided against the proposal to move the Connect service and against adding

Sunday school classes at another hour. We have a proposal to deliver at the January

Council meeting for consideration. We feel like communicating to the congregation that

we are not changing Sunday school or the Connect service meeting time is crucial at this

time. Once the Council has heard and reviewed the proposal, we will communicate

further with the congregation. -WORSHIP SERVICE SCHEDULE COMMITTEE

We are officially using KidCheck as our child check-in system for nursery and preschool age Sunday School classes.

Each family needs to set up a KidCheck account to use the system…it’s free! To

ensure a quick & easy check-in, please visit go.kidcheck.com to set up your account

ahead of time.

If you set up a “quick account” on Sunday morning, don’t forget to log in to

KidCheck.com to complete your account (i.e. upload photos, add guardians, enter

medical information, etc.) Questions? Email [email protected].

The KidCheck station is located at the preschool entrance on the lower floor of

the Parish Hall.

NURSERY COORDINATOR

We are thrilled to welcome Jamie O’Keeffe as our new Nursery Coordinator. Jamie

will be ensuring that our children’s nursery is a loving, safe, and secure environment

for our youngest members here at Newnan FUMC. She

has almost ten years teaching experience and will be a wonderful asset on our

Children’s Ministry team!

Who doesn’t love a birthday party? And

whose birthday is more

important than Jesus’?

This Sunday, December 21st during the Sunday School hour we will be throwing a Birthday Party for Jesus in the

Parish Hall.

Parents, please plan to pick up/drop off your children (age 2-5th grade) in the Parish Hall rather

than their regular Sunday School location. Children will sit with their Sunday School class (look for the

signs) and then rotate through different party stations (craft, music, story, & CUPCAKES! Adults

are welcome to stay for the party to help out!

NURSERY WISH LIST As we prepare for the new year, we are in the process of restocking supplies in the

nursery. The following items are used every Sunday and are essential to a

healthy nursery:

• Baby wipes • Disposable changing pad covers • Facial tissues • Paper towels • Hand soap • Hand sanitizer • Disinfecting wipes (Clorox/Lysol)

Any donations of these supplies would be greatly appreciated. Donations may be left at the nursery on Sunday mornings or you

may leave them outside the Children’s Ministry office on the 2nd floor of the

Education Building. Thank you!

BLESSING OF THE TOYS Children are invited to bring one of their favorite

Christmas presents (no pets, please!) with them to worship on Sunday, December 28th for a special

time during the worship service. During the Children’s Message, children will be invited to

come up to the front with Ashley Johnson for a special blessing over these toys. The “blessing” is a way we help kids connect their faith in Christ with the main way they learn and grow…by playing! We want them to learn that God blesses the whole of

who we are, including our play time. DECEMBER 28TH

There will be NO Children’s or Youth Sunday School on Sunday, December 28th

anticipating Lent!

Beginning in February 2015, we will combine volunteer and financial

efforts with other downtown churches in building a home for a local family through Habitat for

Humanity. On Thursdays and Saturdays, volunteers from all the

churches will work to complete this home during the Lenten season!

PRESCHOOL NEWS The 4 & 5-year-olds sang Christmas carols at Barnes & Noble to help support a fundraiser for the Carnegie Library in downtown Newnan. They did a wonderful

job! (picture on p. 5)

Dale Arrowood, founder and trainer of Winged Ambassadors, brought several species of birds to our preschool for a demonstration. Pictured (on p. 5) is our

4yo teacher, Brannan Pass, holding one of the owls Mr. Arrowood brought.

Thank you, church family, for your support of our preschool ministry!

May you and your family have a safe and blessed Christmas!
