The heart of every home

At the centre of Sekisui House’s philosophies is the importance of feeling connected – to your family members, to your guests, to the community as a whole, and even to the natural environment.

That’s why SHAWOOD homes are built with a sense of connectedness at their heart – with intelligent design, and a keen understanding of space and the interplay of indoors, outdoors, shadow and light. The result is a natural harmony that, as the years pass by, becomes a second nature you can’t imagine living without.

Letting the outside in

With the great outdoors playing such a significant role in everyday life here, SHAWOOD homes feature an ingenious Outdoor Room – and placed it in the very heart of the home. The Outdoor Room lets you enjoy the great outdoors – without ever stepping out the front door.

Exclusively designed for life

We know that homes are much more than bricks and mortar. They’re really about the people who live in them – and ensuring their comfort, safety and enjoyment are a natural part of every day.

They’re also the end result of a completely integrated building and design system – one that considers every detail both inside and out, and teams this with an understanding and appreciation that’s inherently human. This holistic approach to home building also allows these SHAWOOD homes to match the ongoing changes in your family and lifestyle over time.

Built to last

Strength and quality are of the highest importance when it comes to building a home. That’s why SHAWOOD homes use pre-engineered laminated wood frames. Constructed with joints of structural steel (with three kinds of anti-rust treatment), the frames are built to last. They also feature two forms of ventilation that protect against moisture damage – as well as minimal joint gaps throughout the home.

Engineered for comfort

Comfort is the foundation of any great home. And in creating SHAWOOD it’s been made our guiding principle. With high-efficiency insulation to keep you cool in summer and warm in winter, and wind-tightness measures throughout the home, you’ll never feel an unwanted draught.

SHAWOOD homes are also extremely quiet – with sound insulation blocking noise from both sides of the walls, as well as the windows and second-storey floor.

Less is more

Well it is when you’re talking about waste. As part of Sekisui House’s commitment to contributing to a carbon neutral future, SHAWOOD homes feature a number of environmentally friendly measures, starting with pre-engineered frames which significantly reduce the amount of wastage created. From the earliest stages of design to the final build, all processes are completely integrated – so that by the time your SHAWOOD home is complete, all waste has been kept to a minimum.

A SHAWOOD home also helps you cut down on wasted energy. With features such as double-glazed windows, efficient heat insulation, and photovoltaic tiles that turn solar energy into electricity. Getting the most out of your energy use becomes synonymous with the time you’re spending in the home - whether you’re enjoying the comforts of SHAWOOD all-year round or just for the holiday season.

Every detail carefully selected to complement and connect

A unique pebble feature not only complements the colours of the home, but also provides additional detail and termite protection.

Balustrading to create shade and privacy.

Dramatic shadows enhance natural effects.

Energy monitor panel to help you care for the environment.

Living in a SHAWOOD home can reduce CO2 emissions and electricity usage. These homes have been developed to maximise efficiencies and minimise energy bills compared to other home building systems in Queensland.

Exclusively designed for Australians

A firm foundation

Since coming to Australia in 2009, Sekisui House have committed $1 billion into the Australian marketplace – as they strive to build communities that give Australians all over the country a happy, healthy place to live – both today and as the years unfold.

It’s a vision you can now see in the SHAWOOD homes at The Coolum Residences.

Building above and beyond

Based on the over-arching philosophy of a ‘Love of Humanity’, Sekisui House don’t just build homes, they are interested in creating living environments – rewarding homes and communities that exist in harmony with the natural environment, and benefit everyone they touch. They take design philosophies developed in Japan and plant them firmly within the Australian way of life – teaming the two to bring a new way of thinking, building and living. Everything from the positioning of trees and shrubbery to the placement of neighbours in a community has a place and a purpose – allowing for homes to blossom over time, and enhancing the living experiences of entire families for generations.

Sekisui House have already built a strong reputation for leading technological development, design ingenuity and attention to detail. But it’s the intuitive application of these skills that make the homes so livable. For it’s not the frame, not the materials nor the layout – but how they work together that makes a house feel like home.

Sekisui House’s commitment to customers goes beyond the build itself, however. After-sales service is a vital part of the contract signed with you. In fact ‘Truth and Trust’ is a philosophy that underpins everything they do – so you can be sure ongoing happiness in your SHAWOOD home is of the highest significance.

Founded in Japan in 1960, and having built over two million homes since, Sekisui House has established themselves as an innovative, trusted community development and building company. With an array of awards for innovation, design and sustainability, they continue to lead the charge in developing homes that grow to be loved by families for generations.

GO HOn nO kI (GO-HOn-nO-kI) Five Tree Project

Sekisui House encourage the planting of indigenous and in-season plants into private gardens, so that wildlife is abundant. With flowers and fruits changing with the seasons, and an opportunity for gardens to link with the surrounding landscape, the ‘five trees’ (1 for shade, 1 for beauty, 1 for ecology, 1 for community and 1 for future generations) can make a powerful natural impact on the community.

n x YuTAkA (YOu-TAH-kAH) “n” times richness

Sekisui House’s unique design concept aims to multiply the comfort and richness (Yutaka) of residents by the number of homes (“n”) in a community, as well as by the number of years (“n”) that a community has been established.

Their aim is to increase the privacy, beauty and climate benefits provided by the positive relationship of the homes to each other, and the natural environment. They believe that the community designed with ‘n x Yutaka’ will bloom with time.

SMART unIvERSAL DESIGn

Sekisui House believe homes should be safe, secure and comfortable for all residents – regardless of their age, ability and physical strength. Smart universal Design reduces the risk of injury and increases the ease of living. Since announcing their ‘Declaration of universal Design’ in 2002, they continue to undertake significant research to ensure their homes deliver to these high standards, and are flexible for changing needs and family stages.

Exclusively designed to last

SHAWOOD homes are built to benefit you, your budget and the surrounding environment. That’s why you’ll find each home features a number of innovative technical elements to help save you inconvenience, time, money and energy – and allow you to concentrate on enjoying the incomparable lifestyle of this stunning place.

Rigid frames

Built using the unique SHAWOOD system, these homes are stronger, smarter and safer than anything you might be used to – and unlike anything seen before at The Coolum Residences. The high-strength timber frame allows for superior design freedom, so you have the flexibility to mould your home to your needs.

It’s also good to know that in developing this revolutionary frame, great lengths have been taken to preserve natural resources – adopting a waste-free, pre-engineered building method. All the materials are saw-cut to an extremely low tolerance of 0.5mm in the factory, and then assembled on-site – with the result being a more efficient, less wasteful build, and a far more exacting finish.

Insulated double glazing

The wall ventilation isn’t the only thing keeping your home at a comfortable temperature. All SHAWOOD homes are also fitted with double glazing and airtight, aluminium sashes for super insulation – regulating heat to work with the climate of The Coolum Residences. With a unique metallic membrane on the outside of the double glazing, solar heat is reduced by as much as 50% in comparison to regular glass. And not only that, the vacuum seal also provides sound insulation, giving you and your family plenty of peace and quiet.

Photovoltaic modular roof tile system

The roof tiles of a SHAWOOD home make the most of the Sunshine Coast’s warm weather – and help you reduce bills and energy consumption along the way. An integrated photovoltaic solar power system, SHAWOOD’s roof tiles convert the sun’s energy into electricity for the home, whilst never detracting from the stunning look of the home.

Advanced cladding

A house that cleans itself might sound like something out of the future – but with SHAWOOD, you’ll find it’s already here. The homes feature a highly advanced exterior wall cladding, which creates a thin film of water on the surface. So whenever any dirt or stains appear on the wall, they’re actually stuck to this film – and all it takes is a bit of a rain to remove them.

Integrated wall ventilation system

When you live in the sub-tropical environment of The Coolum Residences, keeping your home cool and dry is of serious importance. That’s why the walls of every SHAWOOD home feature an intelligent ventilation system that allows air to flow naturally through the home – minimising moisture build-up, and drawing heat away from the home.
