THE SHALLOWS: POSTER ANALYSIS
Ryan Bogle
THE SHALLOWS
• A mere 200 yards from shore, surfer Nancy is attacked by a great white shark, with her short journey to safety becoming the ultimate contest of wills.
• Director: Jaume Collet-Serra • Release date: June 24th, 2016 • Distriution: Columbia Pictures• Budget: 17 million • Gross: 110 million
TOP 1/3 OF THE POSTER • In the top section of this poster we can
clearly see light blue water a colour we would associate with being calm and tranquil.
• Although it looks calm we see a surf border which gives the impression that there are waves as she is also attached to her board.
• This gives the impression that the person is trapped as they seem attached to the board and trapped.

THE SHALLOWS
MIDDLE 1/3 OF THE POSTER• In the middle of the poster we see the beginning of
the deeper sea as it shows the water turning to a darker colour.
• The colour change is significant to the tagline which says “which was once in the deep is now in the shallows” this is insinuating that there is a something (Presumably a animal/monster) come from deep in the water and has come to reek havoc and possibly harm the surfer we can see on the water.

THE SHALLOWS
BOTTOM 1/3 OF THE POSTER • In deep red blares the title, The Shallows which
portrays a feeling of danger as the colour of red is associated with danger and pain. So we could find it is foreshadowing what could happen in the film.
• The credits tell us small information such as the distribution company, actors, directors etc.
• Also, it has SUMMER which shows the audience that this film is coming soon it is a teaser poster though because it is not specific.
