A Look at the Seven Kings with an Exposition on the Eighth King

And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he 

must continue a short space. And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and 

goeth into perdition. Rev. 17:10­11

Chapter One A Look at the Text from Johns View

    

        First we must realize that when John recieves the vision from Jesus the persecution of Christians by so called “christians” has not yet occurred. I would think he would have been used to seeing believers persecuted by the pagans that would have been normal as he lived during pagan Rome. To see them (believers in Christ) persecuted by a group professing to be followers of Jesus would have I think been out of character and seemed possibly abnormal or even cannabalistic nature. This I think in part at least is what caused him to “wonder” or “marvel” or to in a sense be held transfixed on the whore and the beast she is seated upon.     We then see that the angel says to John “wherefore didst thou marvel?” Before this though we see at the beginning of the chapter where the angels tells him to “come hither”. When this takes place John states “so he” (meaning the angel) “carried me away in spirit into the wilderness” the LORD has the angel do this in order to I believe bring John forward to the end, to the time of the judgement of the whore. One could also say the LORD had the angel possibly bring John while in vision “outside” the constructs of time , to the “time” of the judgement of the whore. So lets look at the verses in question. 

Revelation 17:1­31 And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me,  saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that  

sitteth upon many waters:2 With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of  the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication.3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a  scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.

   If we look in verse one we see where the angel says “come hither” so lets look at the word “hither” as it is original text. The word “come” was extrapolated from the meaning of hither in order to I believe ease understanding of the verse. 

Hither  1204. deu'ro deuro, dyoo'­ro; of uncertain affinity; here; used also imperative hither!; and of  time, hitherto:­­come (hither), hither(­to).

   Then afterwards we see the angel tells John where he is taking him. Which is to the time of the “judgment of the whore that sitteth upon many waters” this ends verse one and with it we see John is taken “forward” in time to the time of the judgement of the whore whom it later says “all the kingdoms of the earth committed fornication with” and had been made “drunk” with her “wine” (or doctrine rather). We notice the angel first “tells” John what he is going to see then carries him away in spirit to the wilderness (time or outside time possibly) and then John once he has arrived at his destination states “and I saw”.  So once he is there he sees what the angel is speaking about. So lets look at the second part of Revelation 17:3 along with verses four, five and six. 

Revelation 17:3­6

3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness:and I saw a woman sit upon a  scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.4 And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and  filthiness of her fornication:5 And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.6 And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the  martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.

    In verses four, five and six we see John describes what he saw. In verse seven the angel notices that John “wondered” or was confused about the whore. He is confused because, I believe, he sees that she kills those people which she professes to be, that is “believers” in Jesus Christ. The angel sees this and states he will explain the “mystery” 

(that John “wondered” about ) of the woman and the scarlet beast. 

Revelation 17:7

7 And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery  of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns.

   In verses eight thru fourteen we see the angel describes the beast, where it comes from what it does or what its effect is rather and where its going. In verse nine the angel begins to introduce the woman and her relationship with the beast. 

Revelation 17:8­9

8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit,  and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the  beast that was °, and is not, and yet is.9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth °. 

   The woman seated on seven hills is also described as seated on the scarlet beast. Rome has always been known as the “City of Seven Hills” or “The Seven Hilled City” it was where pagan rome ruled from, and where Papal Rome led from.  From my study in Daniel and Revelation on the Scarlett Beast I feel I have demonstrated effectively that she is representative of the Vatican, the “Mother of Harlots” or mother of all other religions that came from her and that she absorbed aforetime. 

    Her formation in 538 A.D. did I believe constitute a culminative synthesis of that time in respect to religion and specifically Christianity  or its outward representation and the same thing is happening again today. In fact it was loudly proclaimed when Pope John Paul II invited people from all other religions including witch doctors and eastern religions as well as wiccan, zoarastrian, kabbalah, theosophic etc. JPII and our current Pope are/were both in secret societies (freemasons and possibly others) as well as affiliated with finance, political philosophy and globalisation. Verse ten bares looking at. The outcome of verse ten depends on “where” in the timeline of prophecy John was “carried” away to in spirit mentioned in the beginning of verse three when he states “So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness:”. This angel carried John away in spirit to the “time” of the “judgement” of the “whore” spoken of in Revelation 17 we see the angel affirms this in the beginning of Revelation 17:1 when he says “ I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore” (what I believe to be within our generation) in order to show John the judgement of the great whore, the angel would I believe have taken him to the “time” of her judgement as well to show him this.

    Verse ten allows us to further understand and recognize the identities of the beasts mentioned in Daniel and Revelation. In Chapter two we will take a close look at verse ten how it has been interpreted by others as well as how and why I interpret it the way I do. The verse reads as follows. 

Revelation 17:10

10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come;  and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.

   Ellen White in The Great Controversy she makes this observation. 

Great Controversy points out that the worst two kings against God and His people, were the Pharaoh of Egypt and the king of the Assyrians. Revelation takes those two into consideration with the 7 kings portrayed. Verse 10 "And there are seven kings: five are fallen , and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space...." I will list the five that are fallen and the rest after a spacing:­

1) Egypt2) Assyria3) Babylon In John's day these 5 were fallen.4) Medo­Persia5) Grecia

6) Rome ­ Pagan and Papal ­ "AND ONE IS" ­ John lived in the time of this "one is" ­ Rome7) U. S. A. ­ Rome in Europe persecuting and USA in the west. 8) The Beast ­ Rome "Even he is the eighth, and is of [ made up of ] the seven.

   I must humbly question the above though because this then assumes that John was not in fact “carried away” to the “time” of the judgement of the great whore but assumes that John was in fact “currently living” in the time of her judgement, since the point of being “carried away in spirit” was for the angel to show John the judgement of the great whore. So with EGW's insight as well as Uriah Smith's which I have below it allows those of us alive now to better understand and possibly more accurately understand Rev.17:10, as we are living 168 years into their future (if we count their generation around 1844) we have further aid just as they did of history and Gods Word.  As well Egypt and Assyria were not mentioned as any of the beasts and in fact were subservient to Babylon the first beast mentioned in Daniel.  

    “One of the greatest nineteenth­century exponents of the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation, Uriah Smith, suggested that the seven heads represented the seven types of government in control during the era of the Roman Empire—kingly, consular, decemviral, dictatorial, triumviral, imperialist, and papal (Uriah Smith, Daniel and the

   While I agree several types of government is found within each of the kings, I tend to feel this is still somewhat vague in nature, which stands in contrast to the exact nature of the Book of Daniel as compared to Revelation it seems Revelation should bare the same exactness in clarity and description as does Daniel (which I believe it does).  

   One reason I think they (Uriah Smith and Ellen White as well as other wonderfully gifted believers of their time)  may have been slightly off concerning the seven kings and the eighth specifically is only because so much time has passed and so much has happened since they have passed away that I feel if they had been living in our current time they would have invariably come to a slightly different conclusion.  Since they passed away we have had WWI, League of Nations, WWII, United Nations, the creation of the World Council of Churches, the URI and all the other inter­religious councils pushing for world government openly.  Ellen White also along with others stressed the need to study and expose the streaming undercurrent of secret societies facilitating the move towards a world government and world religion. I stand in aggreance with sundaylaw.net's observation concerning the first five kings. Which I will list below. 

1st King. The lion with two eagle’s wings, in Daniel 7:4, represented Babylon.

2ndKing. The bear that was raised on one side, in Daniel 7:5, represented Medo­Persia.

3rdKing. The four­headed leopard, in Daniel 7:6, represented Greece.

4thKing. The ten­horned monster, in Daniel 7:7, represented pagan Rome.

5thKing. The little horn of the ten­horned monster, in Daniel 7:7 papal Rome [the one that  is]

6thKing.   The lamb horned beast that rises up out of the earth in Revelation 13:11 USA [the one that is not]

7thKing     The Vatican with the United Nations as the scarlet beast (note this is an odd mix as the United Nations religion is theosophical Lucifarianism which “appears” drastically opposite to what the Vatican claims herself to be “Christ's Church”. [and yet is]

8thKing      The United Nations a beast that is of the seven and is namely the scarlet beast, which is the “image of the beast”  that the lamb horned beast gave “the call”  to the people of the world to “create”. Which was an image of the beast like unto before “it” (the lamb horned beast). The beast that is mentioned just before the lamb horned beast is the seven­headed, ten­horned monster beast, in Revelation 13:1­10 which is a composite mixture of the four beasts of Daniel. Note: scarlet is not only the color of the Vatican, its  also the color of communism (as well as other forms of collectivism) and lucifarianism. 

       The reason I thought it correct to place the Vatican as the seventh king and not the  

eighth is because Revelation 17 is dealing with the Judgement of the “great whore” not the beast. And we find further down chapter 17 concerning her “demise” or judgement it happens at the hands of the “nations” that “gave” their power “unto the beast” so in essence the “beast turns on its rider” so to speak.  As we will read it says that these kings shall hate the whore and shall destroy her and burn her with fire for God it says shall put it   in   their   hearts   to  do   so  which  we   see   in  verse  16   and  17.  Verse  18  gives  more clarification stating that the “woman” or “whore” is that “great city” that “reigns” over the kings of the earth. Lets look at these verses below. 

Revelation 17:11­18

10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come;  and when he cometh, he must continue a short space.11 And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition.12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is  Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are  peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire.17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, °    and give their     kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled   .  18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth ° over the kings of  the earth.

   Its seems to show from Scripture that when Jesus returns the whore will have had her judgement, and the horns will have given their power entirely over to the beast (verse 17) “until the words of God shall be fulfilled”. The religion of the beast (U.N.) is pure satanism/lucifarianism and politically collectivistic like the Vatican and communism. These events I believe will increase the urgency of Jesus Christs return, remembering Matt. 24:22

Matthew 24:22 

“And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the  

elect's sake those days shall be shortened.”

I   will   also   leave   you   with   this   quote   from   J.A.   Wylie   from   his  HISTORY   Of PROTESTANTISM ­­ VOL. 2 pg. 309 concerning the powers of deception that at the very least we are still warring against in some form or fashion. 

“The men who had taken in hand to educate the nation, taught it to forget all that other  men strive to remember, and to remember all that other men strive to forget; in short, the  education given to Poland by the Jesuits was a most ingenious and successful plan of  teaching them not how to think right, but how to think wrong; not how to reason out  truth, but how to reason out falsehood; not how to cast away prejudice, break the  shackles of authority, and rise to the independence and noble freedom of a rational  being, but how to cleave to error, hug one's fetters, hoot at the light, and yet to be all the  while filled with a proud conceit that this darkness is not darkness, but light; and this  folly not folly, but wisdom.”

For these reasons it is important to “come out of her my people!” as time is getting short.

I pray that any who read this study may gain a thirst for a deeper understanding of the Holy Bible, and the love that Jesus has for us and the endtimes we live in, that they might gain their salvation and have eternal life in Jesus name I pray Amen.
