Inference/Hypothesis
INFERENCE A conclusion about our observations HYPOTHESIS Is a testable explanation for the details you
observe

Theory
Is an explanatory statement that's beenrepeatedly confirmed though experimental
testing

Law
A law generalizes a body of observations. Atthe time it is made, no exceptions have beenfound to a law. Scientific laws explain things,
but they do not describe them. One way to tella law and a theory apart is to ask if thedescription gives you a means to explain'why'.http://chemistry.about.com/od/ chemistry101/a/lawtheory.htm

Eggsperiment
Observation
Materials
Problem
How to tell the difference with a cooked andraw egg
Hypothesis
One egg is cooked. They all feel the same. Finally we tried shaking the eggs. Biassed onwhat we think we know what the cooked eggis.
A cooked egg spins badly and a raw eggspins very well
2 raw eggs 1 cooked egg Hard surface

Method
Evaluation
Spin each of the eggs on a hardsurface observe and record the results
Conclusion
It probably was the second egg because theegg was spinning very well. Because the othertwo did not spin well.
We should have more eggs one softone hard one raw
Observations
One egg spines very quickly. There is a veryslow egg also.

Observations
Method
Materials
Does the size of an object affect the buoyancyof that object
The smaller the paper clip will take lessspace in the bowl and float better
Water bowl paper clips one small one big
Fill the bowl with water. Take both paperclips and carefully put them in the watersrepeat the experiment
The paper clips float on water. Theymust be made of aluminium
Floating paper clips

Observations
Conclusion
The big paper clips did not float. The small ones floated for aminute then sank
My hypothesis was right the big ones did notfloat. This was a wet experiment for sure. Ican't wait for the next one.
Evaluation
We could put towels around the bowl to notmake a mess. We could have something to
pick up the paper clips to not make them fall.

Methane
Materials
Does adding garlic in cows food
affect the amount of methane theyproduce?
Hypothesis They will fart cleaner airbecause of the Garlic in theirdigestion system.
Big plastic tube
Monitoring machine
Thermal cameraGarlic Cow food

Method Inflate the tube put the cow in. Connect the
machine to the tube. Set up the thermalcamera facing the mouth and the butt. Do thesame thing with three more cows. Feed twocows with normal food and with the other twoadd Garlic to their food. Monitor your results
and repeat the experiment 3 times for threeweeks

Detergent Problem
Materials
Which detergent is thebest for cleaningstains?
Coffee,ketchup,BBQ
Sauce, grass whitefabric, washingmachine 5 washingdetergent brad boxes(full box)

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/the-scientific-method-by-kalea 21/25
Method
Get five pieces of white fabric and labelthem with like A,B,C,D,E. Use the grass
rub it to make a green mark(top rightcorner). Pour the BBQ sauce(top leftcorner),ketchup( bottom right corner)and coffee( bottom left corner) on thefabric. Let it dry. Stain all of them. Put
one of the pieces of fabric in thewashing machine put some of one of thewashing detergents in the washingmachine. Wait till it's done. Do the samewith different detergents. To know which
one is the best. The one that looks thecleanest is the winner.

Problem/Question How much baking soda and vinegar is needed for it to makeenough pressure to make the rocket fly vertically? Hypothesis It would explode or fly depending on the pressure levelcaused by the reaction of the baking soda and vinegar. Materials @a film canister @baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) @vinegar (any kind will work, but white vinegar is easiest toclean up) @an ice cream stick or teaspoon @a plate, saucer, tray or similar @eye protection (glasses, sun glasses or safety goggles) @an adult.
