Kemp's Ridley Sea TurtlesThis is the type of turtle we are going to be altering so that it will be able to blend into the sand better. This sea turtle is endangered, so in order to help save them weve decided to genetically alter there color to be more sandy. Were taking the color gene and mixing it with an Ibex Lizard.

Ibex LizardThe ibex lizard is a sandy colored lizard that burrows into the sand.We chose this lizard because of its colorWell extract the color gene from the lizard and put it into the turtle.

The Mixing of the GenesWell take the color gene from the lizard and insert it into the turtle eggs. When they hatch we hope that they will turn out to be a sandy brown When they hatch well take a male and female from the sandy brown bunch, and try breeding them to see what the product is.

EnvironmentNeritic habitatsTypically contain muddy or sandy bottomsMostly in the Gulf of Mexico and U.S Atlantic SeaboardAtlantic OceanThere is strong evidence that suggests babies go through an open ocean developmental stage that can last up to 2 years

Effects on the EnvironmentPredators who eat the turtle will have a harder time because the turtles will be camouflagedAnimals like raccoons, seagulls and crabs who eat baby turtlesThis will hopefully allow more turtles to liveHowever this could cause a problem considering nesting areas are already depleting and there will be more need for them

Ethicist- Legal ProblemsThe issue of patenting living animals has been argued for sometime. Many want to be able to create, reproduce and sell genetically altered animal. Many animals that have had their color altered have not been sold but only used for research and scientific inventions.

Legal IssuesMany of the known experiment that include genetically altered animals all only used for research and not for retail sale. Many places are restriction scientists from producing more of a genetically altered animal. We would have to go and get a permit to test and produce the brown sea turtles.

Researchers implanted green fluorescent protein into pigs. Seen above in ordinary light, one pig appears yellowish. Under ultraviolet light, the pigs glow green.

Florescent Monkeys

When animals are genetically manipulated there can be major affects, that not only concern the animal but other animals involved.

This is a monkey had a virus put into it that made it glow. Because it glows scientists can study the affects and maybe find out how to cure the virus from viewing the monkey. ResultsAges?Study more?Problems?Would you get closer? The most common age was 16-17Most people would say they wouldnt learn more. The most common problem was them dying early. Most people said yes.
