Samuel Smith’s Old Brewery at Tadcaster was established in 1758. It is Yorkshire’s oldest brewery - and one of the few remaining independent breweries left in England. The hard crystalline brewing water is still drawn from the original well sunk over 250 years ago, and the yeast strain has remained unchanged for over 100 years. Samuel Smith ales are fermented in open-topped vessels made of slate known as “Yorkshire Squares,” and local deliveries are still made by horse-drawn dray wagons.

Available on a limited basis, the Samuel Smith’s Gift Box contains two great beers and a sparkling pear cider, each a flavour masterpiece and an international benchmark for their style: Pure Brewed Organic Lager, Organic Chocolate Stout, and Organic Perry (all in 18.7 oz. “Victorian Pint” bottles). Cider has a long tradition in the UK, where sales have grown dramatically in recent years. Ciders are refreshing, clean, festive, and high in natural antioxidants. While apple ciders are the most popular variety, ciders made from pears - sometimes called perry or poivre - are the second-most popular category. Samuel Smith's Organic Perry is USDA Certified Organic and naturally gluten-free. ABV 5.0%

Dry, sparkling pear cider. Pale straw colour, smooth body, crisp ripe-pear flavour, and the appealing aroma of a summer pear orchard. Cool fermentation with a clean wine yeast highlights delicate pear aroma.

ORGANIC CHOCOLATE

STOUT

Roasted barley creates the characteristic smoky flavour and dark colour in stouts, and the brewers at Sam Smith’s have found a magnificent counterpoint: organic chocolate. Since its 2012 introduction, Organic Chocolate Stout has skyrocketed in accolades and recognition, becoming a top-selling Samuel Smith variety. ABV 5.0%; OG: 1.059; IBU: 28.

Deep, rich, malty, aromatic and satisfying. Organic Chocolate Stout perfectly marries enticing chocolate to roasty but smooth stout. USDA Certified Organic.

Lightly kilned UK-grown organic lager malt is the main ingredient in this pleasing lager, with a substantial addition of organic UK Vienna malt for richness and depth. All hops are organic, from England and from New Zealand. USDA Certified Organic. ABV 5.0%; OG: 1.045; IBU: 25.

Bright straw-gold color; medium body. Pure barley malt flavor and herbal hops in perfect balance. Clean and crisp, with brilliant conditioning.
