C4. Wheels, tyres and brakes

Instructions:

Inspect for damage, wear and signs of under inflation.

When possible, check for correct tyre pressure and proper lubrication.

Note1: On CIS-built aircraft tyres, one or more cord layers on the tyre surface could be visible depending on the manufacturer’s requirements, when in doubt always check relevant maintenance manual.

Note 2: In some cases a “worn” tyre could still be acceptable for one flight to home base, check AMM, MEL procedure.

Typical examples follow :

Deterioration of the tyre (perforations, cutting) may be accepted up to several layers Please refer to appropriate aircraft manual (AMM, MEL).

for tyres having control holes, the disappearance of max. 2 consecutive holes (TU 154) is acceptable;

for brakes, hydraulic fluid leaks of max. 1-2 cm3 /min is acceptable (only CIS-built aircraft);

the wear marker of the breaking system shall be visible;

References:

Applicable AMM, or MEL.
