DISTRICT GRANTS
Presenter
Presentation Notes
District grants fund small-scale, short-term activities that address needs in your community and communities abroad. Each district chooses which activities it will fund with these grants. You can use district grants to fund a variety of district and club projects and activities. You have a lot of freedom to customize your service projects. There aren’t many restrictions, as long as your district grant supports the mission of The Rotary Foundation, which is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. Districts must be qualified before they can administer district grants. Districts may use up to 50 percent of their District Designated Fund to receive one district grant annually. This percentage is calculated based on the amount of DDF generated from a district’s Annual Fund giving three years prior, including Endowment Fund earnings. You aren’t required to request the full amount available. Districts receive this funding as a lump sum and then distribute it to their clubs.
outcomes• Alignment with areas of focus• International partnership• World Fund match
Example: Kenya primary school – provide toilet facilities and electricity
GLOBAL GRANTS
Presenter
Presentation Notes
Global grants support large international activities with sustainable, measurable outcomes in Rotary’s areas of focus. A key feature of global grants is partnership, between the district or club where the activity is carried out and a district or club in another country. Both sponsors must be qualified before they can submit an application. The minimum budget for a global grant activity is $30,000. The Foundation’s World Fund provides a minimum of $15,000 and maximum of $200,000. Clubs and districts contribute District Designated Funds (DDF) and/or cash contributions that the World Fund matches. DDF is matched at 100% and cash is matched at 50%.

NOTE: EREY is no longer active – replaced by Sustaining Paul Harris NOTE: Bequest and Benefactor are the only two areas of giving that goes to Endowment Fund (not share) Annual Fund-SHARE is the primary source of funding for a broad range of local and international Rotary Foundation activities. Every Rotarian, Every Year (EREY) is the fundraising initiative to encourage support for the Foundation’s Annual Fund. Endowment Fund Purpose Ensures the long-term viability of the Foundation’s grants and programs. Spendable earnings from this endowed fund also enable the Foundation to expand existing activities and occasionally underwrite new ones like the Rotary Peace Centers. How fund works Contributions are invested in perpetuity. A percentage of the total value of the fund is directed annually to Foundation grants and programs. Types of Contributions - Outright gifts of cash, investments, or other property. Life income gifts (e.g., charitable remainder trusts, charitable gift annuities, pooled-income funds). Testamentary gifts through wills or estate plans. Beneficiary of life insurance, retirement plan accounts, or other financial accounts

Presentation Notes
Let’s start first by understanding how the Share Program works. Annual Fund and Permanent Fund is considered the SHARE System Why is it called SHARE? Rotarians SHARE their resources with their fellow Rotarians. The Trustees SHARE some decision-making with the districts Rotarians SHARE Rotary with the world through their Foundation.* Basically idea here is that the more funds are available pooled together, the more impact WE can together make to turn these funds into grants and programs crucial to the mission of Rotary.

2. Original donor can help a fellow Rotarian by transferring their points towards a Paul Harris Fellow
3. Minimum 100 Foundation recognition points must be transferred at a time
4. Complete Transfer form with authorization
Presenter
Presentation Notes
Foundation recognition points are awarded to donors who contribute to The Rotary Foundation through the Annual Fund, PolioPlus Fund, or an approved global grant. Donors receive one Foundation recognition point for every U.S. dollar contributed to these funds. Contributions to the Endowment Fund are not eligible. Donors can extend Foundation recognition points to others to help them become, or to name them as, a Paul Harris Fellow or Multiple Paul Harris Fellow. Foundation recognition points belong to the original donor until the donor uses the points or until the donor’s death at which time they expire (unless the donor is a Major Donor and then their points may be used by their surviving spouse). Note: Foundation recognition points do not count toward Paul Harris Society and Major Donor recognition. Transfer rules A minimum of 100 Foundation recognition points must be transferred at a time, and an authorizing signature is required when you complete the Paul Harris Fellow Recognition Transfer Request Form. Note: Foundation recognition points may not be transferred from individuals to a club or district. Donors no longer need to be a Paul Harris Fellow to receive recognition points. How do I transfer Foundation recognition points? A minimum of 100 Foundation recognition points must be transferred at a time, and you must complete and sign the Recognition and Transfer Request. The points may not be transferred from individuals to a club or district. • Individual donors are the only ones authorized to transfer recognition points from their individual account. • Club presidents are the only ones authorized to transfer recognition points from a club account. • District governors are the only ones authorized to transfer recognition points from a district account. On the Club Recognition Summary, what is the difference between recognition amount and available Foundation recognition points? Recognition amount reflects the total Paul Harris Fellow recognition you have accumulated through your personal contributions plus all recognition points you’ve been given by other individuals, clubs, or districts. Recognition points given to you don’t count toward Major Donor recognition. The maximum amount that can be shown on the Club Recognition Summary report is 9,000; the “+” sign indicates that the actual amount exceeds the 9,000-point maximum. Available Foundation recognition points reflects points you have accumulated through personal outright giving to the Foundation. All points listed can be transferred to other individuals for Paul Harris Fellow recognition
