We have some ready resources to help us undertake this responsibility. Our roadmap to the future of Rotary is the Rotary International Strategic Plan 2007-10. The plan is made up of seven priorities that Rotarians worldwide determined to be the most important concerns for Rotary in the years ahead. This year, I am asking your club to put the plan into action and, by working together, to ensure that we achieve our goals.

This year’s Presidential Citation program provides a menu of challenging activities related to the first six priorities of the strategic plan. As you will see, these activities also offer opportunities to address each of the four Avenues of Service, as well as my emphases in the areas of health and hunger, literacy, and water. By focusing your efforts within the framework of RI’s strategic plan, your club will also help Rotary succeed in addressing the plan’s seventh and final priority — to fully implement the strategic planning process to ensure continuity as an organization.

To qualify for a citation, your club should complete the membership goal and an activity from three of the six categories as described in this brochure (three activities in total) between 1 July 2009 and 31 March 2010. The scope of the activities should be in proportion to the number of members in your club and their abilities, interests, and skills. Once your club has met this challenge, complete the certification form and submit it to your district governor by 31 March 2010. Governors must submit a list of all Rotary, Rotaract, and Interact clubs that qualify for the citation to RI World Headquarters by 15 April 2010.

I encourage you to use this citation program as your guide for 2009-10. Consider which projects your club will undertake, and work to address real needs in a cooperative, sustainable, and responsible manner. I am confident that by working together in 2009-10 through the strategic plan, we will strengthen our capacity to serve and prepare ourselves for the even greater challenges that lie ahead. The Future of Rotary Is in Your Hands.

As we embark together on our year as Rotary leaders, I ask for your support in making 2009-10 a very successful and fulfilling Rotary year. One of my main objectives is to remind Rotarians of their personal responsibility to Rotary and its ideals, as exemplified by our theme: The Future of Rotary Is in Your Hands.

John KennyPresident, Rotary International,

2009-10

To President Edgar V. Mendoza and his/her team I extend my warm and sincere congratulations!

On this occasion, where the foundations of the future must take root, the words of a wise man lend meaning to effective leadership: “Show me a great leader and I will show you a great club.”

In this spirit, I ask President Edgar V. Mendoza to be strong and dedicated in meeting the overwhelming responsibility to build an effective club that is able to sustain or increase a committed membership, ever ready to deliver meaningful service projects to the community, to support The Rotary Foundation, and to develop effective leaders that will serve beyond the club level. This is the greatest legacy a club president can leave to the club and write in the pages of its colorful history. I ask President Edgar V. Mendoza to own this legacy.

Only through strong and effective clubs can we ensure the future of Rotary and make our organization continue its work of touching people’s lives to build a better, more beautiful and truly peaceful world. There can be no other time more fitting than our year together to build a stronger and more effective Rotary movement. For this year, we have been given the greatest task of all. With our shared commitment, let us be equal to this task to meet the challenge of the RI theme, “The Future of Rotary is in Your Hands.”

“It is with immense pleasure that I greet the Rotary Club of Batasan Hills on its induction of officers and directors for 2009-2010. This is the beginning of a great year that is waiting to be shaped by the skillful hands of its leadership and the unbending commitment of its membership to give their best in lending meaning to the year’s theme, “The Future of Rotary is in Your Hands.”

Four years ago, I joined Rotary doubtful of my future. I joined out of respect for my friend, PP Jun Sacayan .

Four years later, I found myself as President of this noble Club. I found the objectives of Rotary same with my objectives in life. I found many friends, and many of whom have become my best friends. Rotary has now become a second family to me.

As I am to be inducted into the Leadership of this Club, in its 14 th year, I shall remember that a leader must work harder than anyone else; I shall remember that I am here to serve my members and the constituents for which our Club was established; I shall remember also the sacrifices of past presidents especially the most recent past―that of IPP Sonny Dimaliwat, an unassuming great leader who has leapfrogged our Club to a new level of excellence in service; I shall remember finally the thrust of Rotary International for this Rotary year and that of our Governor Dulce Coyukiat―water, literacy, and health.

This is our Club’s 14th induction ceremony. The officers and members of the Club will renew their vow of obedience and adherence to the objectives of Rotary, encapsulated well in its constitution and by-laws. This is also the time when our new members will make similar vow. I understand fully that without the support of the members, I am nothing. The leader is only as strong as his members.

As part of our vow, we, the officers and members of Rotary Club of Batasan Hills, shall continue to live by the Rotary motto of “service above self.” We shall continue our fellowship and fulfill the goals of Rotary International for 2009-2010 for we believe that the “Future of Rotary is in our Hands.”

Mabuhay ang Rotary!
