poor and orphaned in India. Envelopes for your gift to their mis-sion will be available. (If you choose to give by check, please make the checks out to Roncalli Newman with “Mission Co-op” in the memo line. Thank you.)

NEWS Parish

No Noon Mass June 28 & 29 On Thursday, June 28, and Friday, June 29, the priests of our diocese will be attending the annual Priest Unity Days at the di-ocesan center. Mass at the Newman Center will therefore be cancelled on those days.

Social Justice

Pick Strawberries to Fight Hunger Help Roncalli Newman Social Justice raise money for hunger relief by picking strawberries! We will have a booth selling strawberry sundaes on July 28 & 29 at the Art Fair on the Green. We need LOTS of strawberries to make our fundraising a success and are asking parishioners to help by picking and cleaning strawberries, and then placing them in the large freezer in the Newman kitchen. Sign up sheets will be at the doors for the next few Sundays.

QUESTIONS? Call Wanda at 782-1235 or email [email protected]. Thank you! Support Share the Bounty!

In its 9th season, Share the Bounty’s mission is to provide fresh fruits and vegetables for families in our community, to support local growers and home gardeners, and to promote locally grown food. You can help by buying extra produce and donat-ing these items to the Share the Bounty collection site at

the Onalaska Farmers Market on Sundays from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Home gardeners can drop off produce at this site. Monetary donations are also accepted.

All produce will be taken to the Hunger Task Force warehouse where the food is distributed to over 74 meal sites and pantries in our community. Volunteers are also needed to staff the col-lection site. Roncalli Newman’s Social Justice committee sup-ports this program. Please contact Sonja Schrag at [email protected] / 782-6441 or Wanda Wochos at [email protected] or 782-1235 with questions.

Thank You from Fr. Raj

Dear Parishioners,

Let me thank God for the gift of the priesthood and for the great opportunity He gave me to serve you as your pastor for 3 years. Thank you for your support and encouragement in times of difficulties and failures in my work.

I specially extend my deepest gratitude and appreciation to the entire staff and Pastoral council who arranged the farewell party for me, Fr. Matt and Deacon Dave. I thank sincerely all those who were there and for your kind words, appreciation and gifts. Be sure that I will use them wisely. I miss you all. Let us all stay happy and healthy for the greater glory of God! May God our eternal Shepherd through the intercession of our mother Mary bless you all with happiness and good health.

Let’s pray for each other. Thanks again.

Fr. Raj

MUSIC & LITURGY

SOUND SYSTEM INSTALLATION COMPLETE! By the time that you read this bulleting announcement, the sound system upgrade (scheduled for June 12-13) will be com-plete. Mike Kujak (Metro Sound and Video out of Milwaukee) and his team installed speakers in the overhang and music min-istry, replaced ambo and cordless microphones (because clergy microphones needed to be updated to meet code), as well as tuned and optimized the system. With Fr. Billy coming on board as our new pastor July 7 we anticipate tuning tweaks, but plan to have everything in working order by the time school starts (at the very least)! Please send Mary Ellen feedback in the coming weeks so that we have nothing less than perfection! MINISTRY SCHEDULER PRO – SUMMER SCHEDULE

went “live” on June 7! Please don’t hesitate to email MARY ELLEN at [email protected] with your concerns and/or questions; she’ll call the MSP office to resolve your issue if it comes down to that! If you have an iOS or Android device, I would recom-mend that you download the free app that will make it easier to view your scheduled dates, request and accept subs, and update your profile from your mobile device! Follow these steps to get started: 1) Go to the App Store or Play Store on your device, search for "Ministry Scheduler Pro," and install the app. 2) Open the app and enter the following under Organization ID: Newman 3) Enter your Web Terminal Username and Password to log in. A SUMMER READ in defense of FAITH!

I am continually butting heads with young people who think that they’re smart in adopting either agnosticism or atheism. Because I come from a generation of believers who has been comforted by my faith, I have rarely been challenged to defend my faith against non-believers until recently. The reality of this trend has sent me on a search for answers; my quest might be helpful for those of whom might be experiencing the same “push back.” Years ago, I read Francis Collins’ book, THE

LANGUAGE of GOD, which advocates theistic evolution. Francis Collins is an American physician-geneticist, noted for his landmark discoveries of disease genes, and his leadership of the Human Genome Project (HGP). It’s a great read, but I was looking for something more contemporary.

New Proofs for the Existence of God: Contributions of

Contemporary Physics and Philosophy by Robert J. Spitzer, S.J., Ph.D. was published in 2010 as a serious contender among publications advocating for our miraculous God. Contempo-rary society demands that we have counter-arguments to ar-dent dismantlers of God, so I would encourage you to educate yourselves accordingly! Spitzer’s invitation is irresistible, “I here offer my rendition of a ‘state-of-the-art’ formulation of the proofs. I hope to provide a staging area to assemble the work of great astrophysicists, cosmologists, and philosophers who have contributed so much to this field, and to bring their thoughts together in a single, comprehensive volume.”
