QUESTION FOR THE RIDE HOMEWhere has violence crept into your life and you haven’t even

noticed it? In your speech, video games, TV shows, etc?

PASTORAL COUNCIL is a consultative body within the parish which serves to advise the pastor who must foster the practical andpastoral activities of the community. Meetings are held quarterly, but committees meet more frequently. The next meeting will beheld on Tuesday, June 5 at 7:30 PM in the OLV Room. Some of the items for discussion will include the emergency action that we aretaking as a parish, the parish feast day luncheon, a closer concentration on the young people of the parish, greater involvement inparish activities from families whose children are enrolled in religious education and the regional school. Carolyn Caramanica servesas chair person.

WHY SEND THEM? If they don’t go to church on Sunday, why send them to school on Monday or Religious Education during theweek? Learning facts and receiving sacraments are of little value if the children are not being allowed to practice the faith, even inthe least way – by gathering in prayer at Mass. Come as a family each Sunday. It’s for their future!

OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD

Ihope you were able to read last Sunday’s bulletin aboutour wonderful plans to celebrate the parish feast day ofSt. Gregory Barbarigo on Sunday, June 24 at 11:30 Mass.In our planning, we are hoping that this will be a

convenient day for all since it occurs the week after Father’sDay and the week before the beginning of the summerexodus. It is appropriate and nice to give our parishioners achance to socialize and be with family and friends. We hopethat many people will be able to join us for good companyand a vey pleasant meal which will be catered by our goodfriend, Kevin Lynch. The bountiful luncheon will featurechicken Francese, basa fish oreganata, penne a la vodka, sausage and peppers, salad and dessert. Tickets are availablefor the reasonable cost of only $20 per person and $40 perfamily. Children under 16 will be free. There will be achance to win beautiful gift baskets and raffles. Ask yourfriends to come with you and bring your family.

I read an article this week about a new series thatwill be offered by CBS next season. It is called God FriendedMe. It may be the most unexpected and inspiring TV serieson the fall schedule. Judging from what I read, it really lookspromising. Who would have thought that faith, belief andGod would be on network television in 2018! The premiseis based on a podcast-hosting, self-proclaimed atheist whodoesn’t know what to think when he is friended by God onhis Facebook account. Then, he is poked to help strangersfor reasons that aren’t immediately clear. The truth is thereis more to the story than anyone knows. It is worth a lookfor yourself. Just check it out – visit this site:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTBaFCANKp0&feature=youtu.be.

Today is the feast of the Most Holy Trinity, but nextSunday, we will observe the Body and Blood of Christ. At9:30 Mass, there will be a special children’s homily. And also,we invite everyone to come to the Eucharistic processionafter 11:30 Mass. We will move about the campus with theBlessed Sacrament, conclude at the adoration and join witheach other in a delicious cookout in my back yard at theparish house. You are all welcome to be with us.

MONSIGNOR THOMAS DARBY SCHOLARSHIP applications are available at the parish office and are due to Father by thisThursday. Are you eligible? Do you go to Mass each week, contribute to the parish offertory, have a good disciplinerecord at school, have a financial need? Then, you qualify. Also, if you’d like to make a contribution to this fund so thatit continues to grow, call Linda at the parish office (947-1873) with your donation.

BLACK AND INDIAN MISSIONS OF THE UNITED STATES will be collected next Sunday. In the past 127 years, over $10 million has beenraised to help in the evangelization of black and native Americans. This comes from the second 5% of your tithe.

FIRST FRIDAY MASSES will be offered this week at 7:30 at Immaculate Conception and 9:00 AM at SGB. In conjunction withthat, you may want to spend a holy hour at the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel. We need to have people present during theentire time that the Blessed Sacrament is exposed on the altar. Please consider being in the Real Presence of Our Lord.It will be the most peaceful and rewarding time in your month. The children from the regional school will be joining usfor Mass.

NOW AND AT THE HOUR We pray these words all our lives. One way to give meaning to them is to think about our own funeral andburial wishes. When people prepare wills for death, they leave these plans as a gift for family and friends. For Christians, this isprimarily an act of faith begun in baptism. For anyone who needs advice on matters like bequests, liturgy, legal information, disposition (and remember, one can’t always leave these to the decision of others), you may call the parish business office.

ST. ANTHONY BREAD FOR THE POOR Each year on the Feast of St. Anthony, the church reminds us of itsobligation to the poor. There is a legend that dates back to the year 1888 where a woman named Louise Bouffiermanaged a small bakery store in the seaside village of Toulon, France. She had given up her desire to become anun because her parents depended on her for support. One morning, she couldn’t open the shop’s door with herkey. Neither could a locksmith, who advised her that he’d have to break the door open. While he went to get his

tools, Louise prayed to St. Anthony that she would give some of her bakery’s bread to the poor if the door could be opened withoutforce. When the locksmith returned, he tried the lock again and was easily able to let Louise in. True to her word, the baker madesure that the poor of Toulon received their due. It wasn’t long before Louise’s friends began to follow her example of promising agift of bread or alms to the poor in return for prayers answered by St. Anthony. In the 1890s, they formalized this practice by foundinga charity called St. Anthony’s Bread. In the spirit of this charity, we would like to distribute small loaves of bread at 9:00 Mass onWednesday, June 13 which might be passed among friends and family or to the disadvantaged in our community making it possiblefor us to join in God’s gifts of peace and generosity to the poor.

PRAYERS FOR THE SICK Please notify the parish office in the event of serious illness or hospitalization so we may assist with ourprayers, the sacraments or a visit. We’d also like to know whenever someone has recovered so that our prayer list is up to date.

SUPERMARKET GIFT CARD PROGRAM FOR SHOPRITE AND STOP & SHOP are sold in the narthex when you come to Mass onSaturday night and Sunday morning and at the parish office every day in denominations of $10, 20, 25, 50 and 100.This is an easy and effortless way to raise funds for parish programs with no cost to you. Just purchase the card at facevalue and 5% is returned to SGB. You can use them like cash – they work on a declining balance system. It is great forgifts or every day use. Father always uses them when he does his grocery shopping for the parish house. Over$300,000 in cards are bought by parishioners annually and $15,000 is returned to St. Gregory Barbarigo. Moreinformation is available at the parish office.

COMPASSION SUNDAY The Wailing Wall in the narthex has become very popular and it has filled up quickly with petitions. NextSunday, these prayer requests will be removed and placed at the altar for the universal prayer (of the faithful) so that they we can makeroom for more intentions. After Mass, they will be burned as an oblation as they wind their way before God’s throne of mercy.

RENEW+REBUILD PLEDGE REDEMPTION The fulfillment of your pledge commitments ensures that we can completeour parish R+R projects. Thank you for keeping current.

CAN I PRESENT MYSELF WITH MY ARMS CROSSED FOR A BLESSING INSTEAD OF RECEIVING HOLY COMMUNION? Well, you reallyshouldn’t. The communion line is for receiving communion and a blessing ought not become a substitution for the Eucharist itself.Stick around for another five minutes till the end of Mass when the entire congregation is blessed.

THE JOURNEYSONGS HYMNAL Please take good care of them. Never take them home with you. Always put themback into their rack whenever you are finished. Remember, they are given in memory of those we love. To donateone for $25, use the subscription form in the narthex or at the parish office.

PARISH FOOD MINISTRY The county food pantry at Catholic Charities in Haverstraw is always in need of groceries. Our parish is sovery generous in sharing their bounty with the hungry and needy. When you are out shopping, please remember to pick up a few extraitems and place them in the box in the narthex. Thank you very much.

PRAYER SHAWL APOSTOLATE of St. Gregory Barbarigo is a great group of loving ladies whose hands create warmth andcomfort for those going through difficult times. Shawls are blessed at the Sunday Mass and freely given away. You maycall the parish office (947-1873) for more information. We are also in need of donated homespun yarn of similar colors tobe used in our ministry so that the blankets and shawls will be uniform. If you can, please leave them on the table in the narthexwith our thanks.

COME TO THE FEAST Tickets for the parish feast day luncheon on June 24 from 12:30 to 3:00 PM in the school gymnasium will be onsale this weekend and on June 2, 10 and 17 in the narthex after all the Masses. They are also available at the parish office during theweek.
