As we head forward together, I want to continue to pose this question; "What are we going to do as a church together? How will we continue to be a vital faith community?”

One of the things that I enjoy about our church website is that we have a history of how Beth Eden began. It shares the story of a vital church community — a small group of people in a tiny church that, through the years, has gone through different transformations. Here we are now in 2020, what will we add in the logs of church history? The vitality of Beth Eden that I have learned from the tale of our church is that the people of Beth Eden were not scared to engage the community, the folks at Beth Eden were intergenerational and family-focused. So I will ask the hard questions, "Are we still doing a good job with that?"

If you scrub or click on the tab "Who We Are" on our website, we have a generic, Book of Discipline answer about Faith. Which is something we can share during a new member's class or in Confirmation class. The "Who We Are" should be a statement about this faith community - who are the people of BEUMC? Here is what I think should be said;

"Welcome to Beth Eden, as Jesus Christ welcomes all just as they are, so do we. Come and join us, and let's walk the road of Faith together."

That's what I have felt as the new Pastor that our community wants to do. Am I right?

So I bring my letter to a close. I want to ask you a couple of questions, answer them honestly. I will hold a special church conference on Sunday, March 1st to discuss these questions and answers:

1. What about my faith community makes me come back every Sunday? 2. What are my talents and things I'm passionate about? Can I share them at church? 3. What ministries do we have at church right now that I'm excited about? What can I do to help it grow? 4. If you could add a ministry to the church, what would it be? How does it help our community and the broader community? Would you be willing to give your time to help it grow? I hope this discussion will foster growth and energy for our church. Our mission is to share the love of Christ with others - but how will we do that together? We are in this together, and with God's help, anything is possible. Peace and Blessings, Pastor Eric

ups and downs of life! Preaching is God working through her and it is a marvelous feeling!

Karen is someone who shares her faith…everywhere! She shares at work, with friends, at appointments…anywhere. She especially shares through Facebook with friends and with strangers going through what she’s been through…breast cancer. Breast cancer has given her a sense of connection and empathy. It allows God to use her to share his love and hope with so many others.

Her favorite “part” about Beth Eden is being in the Drama ministry, which she has been with since its beginning in the later 90’s. She loves the marvelous feeling of acting and being someone with a story to tell.

Her Grandma Fritz once told her that church is the best gift ever given. Church is about being a family of love and faith, people that can always be counted on. Coming together each Sunday lifts spirits and gives a feeling of being renewed, leaving with a joy filled heart, ready to go where God sends.

Karen, your joy and passion for living and sharing makes you someone we will never forget. May God continue to use you to be a blessing to us at Beth Eden!

EDENETTES CIRCLE

A warm welcome is extended by the Edenettes Circle of the United Methodist Women as they gather in the Youth Room at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 12. Refreshments will be provided by Karen Weiss. We will plan to observe the Annual

Call to Prayer and Self Denial emphasis which includes a special offering.

On Thursday, April 9 at 12:30 p.m. the Edenettes Circle plans to meet in the Youth Room. Following refreshments by Diana Gorrell, a program is in the planning.

A $1 donation for the Carrie Lynn Children’s Center is welcome each month.

PERSON OF INTEREST Our person of interest is…Karen Andrus! You all know her, especially by her joyful laugh. She make you laugh with her stories of life!!!

Karen was born and raised in Rockford. She began at-tending Beth Eden in 1972 along with her friend Lynn

Higgins. They were freshmen in high school, from divorced families, and felt they needed something more in their life, something that only church could offer.

Upon joining Beth Eden, Karen found her niche in teaching Sunday school, and has been at it ever since she was 18. She loves the children/youth, especially when, through her lessons, the “light goes on” and they get what she is trying to teach.

Karen also found her spot in the UMW. The Circles are a wonderful way to bring women of faith together to share and learn and grow. It started with the Rise and Shine Circle many years ago and a great group of ladies. After a few years break, many of them have come together again in the Glory B’s circle and have continued to share and be there for each other. Also, she has shown her leadership qualities by being a part of the UMW Leadership Team, the one that plans events and programs for the women. She has been president for many years.

Because of her background in food services, she has been responsible for the kitchen, and for funeral luncheons. She has this down to a science as to what is needed and has to be done.
