Nancy Daniels from K-State Research and Extension

made a presentation at the Robinson City Hall Commu-nity Center January 29 to share information gleaned from a team of visitors from Oldsburg, Kansas who were par-ticipating in the First Impressions project. First Impres-sions is designed to allow community residents to see the community through the eyes of a first-time visitor with the goal to increase awareness of the community’s strengths and highlight concerns. Observations were made in early November by at least three different indi-viduals with different timing in the visits to Robinson. Some of the “strengths” and “concerns” are listed below.

Strengths: The Robinson’s Community Store Lovely “well kept” homes (while mention was also

made of abandoned homes in decay) Barn Quilts Parks The Little Free Library Signs at north and south entrances to Robinson Community dinners and Bird Cage Theater

Concerns: No daycare facilities but both parks and after-school programs cited as positives for the children Signs needed (could not find City Hall) Lack of healthcare facilities (not aware of home health received by individuals, meals on wheels, etc.) No fire/police protection noticed (During January 29 meeting, existence of the fire department and appre-

ciation of the volunteer fire department members and medical support team was expressed by the commu-

nity members in attendance.)

A copy of the compiled report is available at the Robin-son’s Community Store and one will also be available at First Sunday Dinner for those who wish to examine the entire report.
