MARTINSVILLE CLUB RUN NEIL’S PLACE
What a wonderful day the Martinsville Club run turned out to be. The weather was
perfect all day and to top it off we had 56 members and visitors join us on this
actionpacked day. Our first destination was a 15-minute drive to Neil’s and Maria’s place
at Martinsville. On our arrival we made our way to the
large undercover area where we mingled with other
members while Maria and her good friend filled the tables
with an
array of different morning tea
goodies. The friendly donkeys
and nanny goats were great
entertainment especially when
they kept grabbing our cloths
when we were trying to pat them.
After our fill on Maria’s
sumptuous morning tea we had
The trouser eaters to leave as it was the motorcycle groups
turn to gather on the deck. Some of them mingled with
us before we finally left. While others of them even signed Darcy Wilson & his mates
our club’s attendance register. After leaving Neil’s place we made our way further down
Martinsville Rd. to the park. Once there and because we were still full from the morning
tea some members choose to play a game of Bocce while others started organizing the
BBQ equipment, utensils, food and setting up the table with plates, bread cups and
saucers etc for lunch.
Our fabulous cooks
were Will Gale on the
onions, Tony
Thompson cooking
the sausages, and
George Vella frying
the eggs and the
poor old bacon was
left to where it was
plonked. Will cooked
about eight
bags of onions George, Carol, John & Tony Thompson
and left the frying plate with his eyes full of tears. Tony was
all snagged out after cooking around 80
Will cooking onions sausages. George fried 54 eggs and only splattered two on
the ground. A BIG thank-you to the cooks and eaters.
As I looked around, I could see most members with a sausage sandwich and soft runny
egg. Yummmy.

You might think that this
was the end of the day,
but Oh no there was still
more to do as we made
our way to Chris’ place to
inspect the extension to
his shed. He had lined it
with old tin sheeting and
hung up a number of
very large signs and
other car memorabilia. A
number of the members
commented on how nice
and clean the shed was
inside and how it was the
cleanest shed they had
seen. Chris’ Shed
The group then left Chris’ place and made their way over to see Terry Cockrell’s near
finished project, the Cord.
This run was one of the
best that George, Eddie
and I have put on and it
was successful because
of the wonderfully loyal
and helpful members we
have in our great Club.

paraphernalia
A BIG THANK YOU to Eddie McPartland for organizing with Neil to visit his place.
What an inspiring club we belong to. Members are very supportive of Club runs,
Meetings and are willing to help out with the games we play and help with the BBQ’s
when asked.
A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL WHO TURNED UP TO THIS GREAT CLUB RUN.
THANK YOU – THANK YOU Marilyn Vella
PLEASE NOTE: Members who know of events such as Car Boot Sales, Swap
Meets, Charity Runs, Shows etc, which may interest club members, please inform

Dennis & Ruth Tame’s 1969 MG-B
Ruth and I are recent members of the club only joining three and a half years
ago. I have always wanted to own a MG-B but could never afford one back
in the 60s and when a family came along there were more pressing matters
to attend to. I purchased an imported LH drive roadster in the early 1990s
and commenced converting it to RHD. However, the pressures of work
delayed progress on the car. In 1999 work took us overseas and when we
returned eight years later it was a full year before we had settled into living
back home. In 2015 the reality hit me that if I continued to restore the LH
drive MG at the current rate I wouldn’t complete the project before I was
much older. So, looking down the gun barrel of time I decided that I would
purchase a sound RH drive MG-B and soon have it on the road to enjoy. I
purchased my MG-B from a deceased estate at Wallangarra just over the
border in Queensland. While it was a sound vehicle with no rust the exterior
and interior need refreshening so I had it repainted and imported new carpet
as well as leather skins for the seats. The motor is in good condition and is
stock standard and I have had to only fit a new alternator, have the carbies
rebuilt as well as fitting electronic ignition as well as a new wiring loom. We
are happy with the completed project and plan on using it as a club car into
the future.

HUNTER VALLEY ZOO CLUB RUN
Our trip to the Hunter Valley Zoo turned out to be well worth getting out of a
cosy warm bed to be at Wyee by 8.15 am.
After a quick chat with everyone, we set off
for Cessnock. There were a few kilometres of
rain on the way, however once we had gotten
over the gap at Freemans
Waterhole we noticed that
the weather on the other
side of the range was quite
pleasant. It improved
markedly as we
approached Cessnock.
Thanks to our early start
we were some of the first
to arrive at the Zoo Charlie the pack leader
which meant that we could
Don (the Birthday Boy) Miles, Jenny, Wal, Stella and Marj select
the tables where we wanted to have lunch and place out
eskies and lunch baskets on the them. We hadn’t been
there long before the first bus load of school children
arrived. Fortunately, their supervising teachers directed
them to where the Zoo tour
guides were waiting for them.
It was great to be able to move
freely around the parkland and
see the large variety of birds and The Big Lizard
animals. They were well cared for in clean
surroundings. Many of them had been fed with
fresh fruit and vegetables before we
Leo King of the White Lions arrived. There were so many more exhibits
than we expected to see.
The Sunbathing Gators. We didn’t
think that we would see around 23
alligators all sun baking on the grass
next to their water hole. The Meerkats
were top of the list for some to see.
Camels, ostriches, giraffes, zebras,
white and brown lions, white and grey
kangaroos, koalas, sheep, deer as
well as a variety of caged birds
captivated our attention for the morning.
