In the 1960s, Houstonians viewed the River Oaks Luxury Apartments

as a contemporary marvel of style and architecture, attracting some of

the city’s celebrities and elite as its tenants. John Wayne called this

building home in the 1960s.

We designed this building with River Oaks residents

in mind. We felt that the most important element to

maintain with The River Oaks was a feeling of respect–

for both the property and the neighborhood. To achieve

such vision, the creative team utilized local designers so

that the priorities of local residents are not only heard,

but intimately understood. We maintained the historic

footprint of the building and greenspace, while bringing

the whole property up to the standards of Houston’s

most discerning residents.

The magic of The River Oaks lies in the way it preserves

a sense of the neighborhood. The original River Oaks

tower speaks of architectural heritage. Glass and open

floor plans amplify the connection between inside and

outside at the lower levels. Grand corner living spaces

anchor the floor plans, while larger units at the higher

levels utilize large terraces to maintain the indoor/

outdoor lifestyle. We think the real magic is in creating

exquisitely modern luxury residences even as we

preserve a sense of the River Oaks neighborhood.

Classic modernist architecture enriches and defines

a lifestyle people seek and appreciate. Natural light

amplifies transitions within the residences and creates

a more expansive sense of space within. We envision

contemporary and warm residences with dark

emollients, hardwoods and warm limestone.

This rarified property will form a unique bond with

residents, much like great art does with collectors.

appreciated attention to detail. We approached

The River Oaks with an abiding respect for the land,

climate and surrounding architecture. The garden

we designed for The River Oaks reflects inspiration

from the surrounding natural and built environments,

often incorporating historical references as well

as the latest innovations in landscape design

and materials.
