Day 1: 2017/10/02- Beginning of new adventure

It was a wonderful day with a lot of new things to learn.

I was so impressed by the lecture of business manner

by Mrs.Kato in the morning. It will be very helpful for

me through this training program and in the future.

(Fig.1)

The first clinic I had chance to visit in training program

was Dr. Wakumoto’s clinic, which has very long

history from year of 1923. What gave me strong

impression was the idea of acquiring good infection

control from sterilized water used for each dental chair

unit. It was the first time for me to know about very

great system called Epios Eco System, which keeps

residual chlorine concentration in water supply unit. The

important point is that the system has strong bactericidal

power but very safe for human body (Fig.2)

In addition, this clinic also uses ozonized water with 5ppm oxygen atom to decrease amount

of bacterial intraorally by removing biofilm. (Fig.3.)

Besides, I had chance to try the taste of Epios water which is made by electrolyzing machine.

This type of water has strong effect and especially used before doing ultrasonic cleaning. It is

able to be used by patient at home before brushing teeth to increase effective of removing

plaque. (Fig.4)

In this visit I also got to know many highly effective dental materials that I have never seen in

Viet Nam.

- DocBest Zin phosphate cement with activated

copper. There are 2 kinds of DocBest which are

white copper cement and red copper cement. This

product is useful to treat very deep caries, direct

pulp capping in order to prevent from root canal

treatment, keep vitality of the tooth.(Fig.5.)

- Bulk Base is another type of filling material

which is also used to treatment deep caries, helps to

create good bonding between filling material and tooth

structure. Therefore, it helps to prevent leakage of

bacteria and recurrent of caries. (Fig.6)

- Desensitizer had good effect on blocking exposed

dental tubule so that it helps to decrease

sensitivity. This product can be used for deep

caries before filling. (Fig.7)

- Etak oral care is a kind of coating spray for denture,

removable appliances and toothbrush. It provides a coating layer

to prevent bacterial and the effect can last one week

Thanks to the warm welcome and kindness of Dr.Wakumoto and all clinic staff, my first day

became much easier and more productive. I hope that I could have a chance to use all of

those machines and products to improve treatment effectiveness in Vietnam. (Fig.9.)

Day 2: 2017/10/03

The new potential products- Biogaia Company Trip

In the second day of training program, I had a great opportunity to visit office of Biogaia

Company which is from Sweden. The products of Biogaia aim to support health of

gastrointestinal tract including oral health. The commercial strains are named Biogaia

Protectis, Biogaia Prodentis and Biogaia Gatrus. These products work based on the action of

Lactobacillus reuteri (including L.reuteri DSM 17938 and L.reuteri ATCC PTA 5289). In

those products, L.reuteri directly impacts the balance of bad and good bacteria in mouth and

prevents bad bacteria from developing diseases. It also works on human immune system.

What impressed me most was the effectiveness when using Biogaia Prodentis proven in

many clinical trials which are related to significantly decrease plaque, improve gingivitis,

periodontitis, peri-implantitis, avoiding halitosis, etc. I think the most important thing that

makes those products become a new potential products are the safety for pregnant and

breastfeeding women because all the means of oral health are quite limited for those women.

That is very good idea to bring those products to Vietnam so that we could somehow improve

oral health in term of prevention. I hope to see more products based on this formula are

marketed in Viet Nam.

Finally, I would like to appreciate Mr.Sebastian Nummelin and all staffs in Biogaia office for

warm welcome and their hospitality.

Day 3: 2017/10/04

Impressive laser therapy- Yajima’s Dental Clinic

Yajima’s Dental Clinic in Yamanashi Prefecture was the 3rd

place I visited in training

program of ASEAN Dental Network. Thanks to warm greeting and help from Dr.Yajima, his

wife and all staffs, I could get a lot of new valuable knowledge.

First of all, I was impression by the high-tech of data input method in this clinic. All data

including plaque index, pocket depth, blood on probe, mobility, recession of every single

tooth are recorded using iPod which is connected to computer. After that those data are

printed out so that patients could image their current condition better. It is very helpful and

time-saving system.

Secondly, Dr.Yajima kindly showed me a wonderful plasma

laser system. It has amazing effect on treatment of various

ranges of oral conditions including periodontal diseases,

dental caries, extraction, minor surgery… In this laser

therapy, Dr.Yajima uses Nd:YAG (neodymium-doped

yttrium aluminum garnet) laser with wavelength 1064 nm in

different frequency for different treatment purposes (Fig.15).

Accordingly, the higher frequency (1/10000 seconds)

Nd:YAG laser is used for High Reactive Laser Therapy

(HRLT) and the lower frequency is Lower Reactive Laser

Therapy (LRLT). One of the most interesting characteristics

of Nd:YAG laser is its high permeability. Because of this

feature, laser therapy can be done without anesthesia. It is

very helpful for patients who have anesthesia allergy. The

HRLT is mainly used in combination with TiO2 in oral

surgery. Laser has stronger reaction with area containing

higher level of protein. Thus, HRLT works well for cleaning of active periodontal pocket,

pericoronitis, caries removal to preventing excessive drilling and root canal treatment. There

are also clinic cases which use laser to help extraction as well as remove periapical abscess.

On the other hand, LRLT mainly show effect on treatment of internal medicine, joint pain,

temporo-mandibular joint problem based on its ability of sterilization, pain relief and

Fig.15.Nd:YAG Laser machine

collagen regeneration. Therefore, LRLT is often used after HRLT in order to promote healing

process and prevent infection.

Moreover, I got to understand clearer about Epios Eco System and Electrolyzing machine

that I observed in Dr.Wakumoto clinic. Epios Eco System provides water containing 20ppm

of HOCl, H+

, OCl- at pH6.5 for all dental units in clinic. Meanwhile, Electrolyzing machine

can make water containing 500ppm of HOCl, H+

, OCl- at pH9.3 from H2O and NaCl. This

water is used for root canal irrigation and mouth wash. As I described in previous report, this

special water can penetrate and disrupt biofilm and has great disinfection effect.

In addition to those systems, Fotosan blue is a kind of

light curing pen which has great effect curing

composite and disinfection. It is light activated

disinfection with no side effect. Fotosan blue works

well for periodontitis, endodontic treatment, profound

caries and gingivitis. (Fig.16)

The use of laser therapy and electrolyzing water

together build good professional oral infection control,

which help to achieve high successful rate for dental

treatment. I think it is very nice if I can somehow apply

this system to dental treatment in Vietnam.

In conclusion, I would like to appreciate Dr.Yajima and all

clinic staffs for great effort showing me amazing treatment therapies and patiently teaching

me the way to use laser.(Fig.17 )

Day 4: 2017/10/05 -Dr.Otsuki’s Dental Clinic

In the 4th

day of training program, I got chance to visit Dr.Otsuki’s dental clinic. My new day

started with very warm greeting message at the entrance of clinic. It was amazing day for me,

with full of new knowledge. If I need to describe Dr.Otsuki’s clinic in few words, I will

choose words of well-organized, great-designed, modern-equipped and wonderful attitude of

mind.

Firstly, my very first as well as the strongest impression about this clinic is that there is

kindergarten on the 1st floor. This is also my first time to see a kindergarten in dental clinic. It

will be very helpful so that the staffs could feel secure to work well and patients could be

easy to have dental treatment. This clinic separates into different floors with different

purposes. The first floor is used for kindergarten, whereas the second floor is specially

designed for periodic check and cleaning for children only. Following that, this floor has

great playing ground which makes children feel interesting whenever going to dentist. The

room is full of cute decoration. Moreover, dental chairs are designed for children only. In this

floor, there is no hand-piece sound which can scare children. It creates really good

environment for children to get used to dental care system. I was impressed by the way of

working of all dental hygienist here, so quick, efficient and friendly. The third floor is the

main treatment area which is separated into individual treatment room with excellent design

in each room. Dentists here perform various ranges of dental treatment including

conservative dentistry, endodontic treatment, periodontal surgery, implant… The fourth floor

is floor of prevention, in which dental hygienists perform professional mechanical teeth

cleaning for adult patients. The important thing is that this floor had comfortable waiting

zone with cute and attractive poster and decoration about oral health care.

Secondly, Dr.Otsuki’s dental clinic is very well equipped. With many modern, advanced

dental equipment’s such as X-ray, CT scan, implant, micro-Endodontic… Moreover, patients’

information including all data, photo, radiograph in each visit are saved and managed using

advanced computer system

Last but not least, I was really admired the wonderful attitude of Dr.Otsuki. He always put

prevention to the first place of care. Prevention plays an important role in oral health care

system. When patient come to clinic on the purpose of prevention, it means there is no

significant pain, thus the dental phobia can be decreased. With the routine check and

professional mechanical cleaning every 3 months, dentists and dental hygienists can build

Page 10: THE REPORT OF DENTAL TRAINING PROGRAM OF ...Uyen ADN2017-report.pdfDr.Nguyen Thi Dung Dental training p rogram of ASEAN Dental N etwork -2017 - 2 - Day 1: 2017/10/02 - Beginning of

good relationship with patients; improve dental hygiene as well as self-awareness of dental

care. Each patient in first visit will be assessed for caries risk using cariogram and periodontal

diseases risk. Therefore, patients can understand well their own dental condition and improve

motivation of taking care of oral health. I also loved the way Dr.Otsuki connect all staffs in

clinic with idea that better colleagues relationship can create better working environment and

achieve higher effectiveness. More important point is that all treatment are done toward

patient benefit.

Overall, today was a wonderful experience for me. I got a great idea of prevention and

creating patient motivation. I would like to appreciate Dr.Otsuki for kindly showing me

around clinic as well as all the effort to explain clearly every single small thing. Thank again

for the help of dental assistant and dental hygienist. I had very happy time and felt free to

express my opinion.

Day 5: 2017/10/06- Dr.Komine Dental Clinic

In the 6th day of training program, it was my honor to visit Dr.Komine's dental clinic, who is

very famous for new method of dental treatment. He uses a kind of cement named Doc's Best

cement to conserve vitality of pulp and minimize treatment intervention. That is very good

idea of treatment and need more time to prove the effectiveness of this method. Besides,

Dr.Komine focuses on the close relationship between oral health and general health. In the

other words, what we eat directly effects our body and oral health. According to this point of

view, he advises patient to have good food and give up on the bad habit of eating.

For the first-visiting patients, it's important to show patient their oral health condition. I was

impressed by saliva pH measurement, which show to patient the caries condition through pH

value; pH under 6.7 indicates for the existence of caries. In addition, caries detector laser is

one of the most exciting innovations in dentistry. It is a safe, painless and revolutionary new

way to find even the smallest areas of tooth decay. Hence, it helps dentist decide the necessity

of caries treatment and advise patient to maintain good oral hygiene.

There are also other interesting machine I had observed in Dr.Komine' dental clinic such as

cancer screening, bad breath measurement and Esteck system complex which measures the

electrical resistance between selected points. These measurements are used to predict the

presence of indicators in the metabolic system as well as the functions of organs. All of these

machines can help dentist a lot in diagnosis and prognosis.

Besides, I feel so grateful to receive warm welcome and hospitality from Dr.Komine and all

of staffs. Especially, I would like to send my gratitude to Dr.Nemoto for accompanying me

all day long.

Day 6: 2017/10/07 -Dr.Komine’s Dental Clinic

This was the second day in Dr.Komine’s dental clinic. Today I had chance to experience how

to use Caries detector laser which I mentioned yesterday to diagnose caries. It was very

helpful and easy to use portable device. With the application of laser energy, the intensity of

the fluorescence of caries tooth structure can then be measured as a direct correlation to the

occurrence and magnitude of the caries activity.

Additionally, I got an idea of relationship between daily food intake and oral health. Some

factors that actually impact health of gum and teeth are consumption of carbohydrates,

omega-3 fatty acids, Vitamin A, E, D, K, magnesium, etc…The another important thing I

could learn from Dr.Komine is the way of consultation with patient, it is essential to build the

trust by explaining oral condition clearly with all the evidences from diagnostic machine. I

really admire his desire of continuously study.

In conclusion, if we pay attention more on healthy diet, we can significantly improve dental

health. Thanks to great help and kindness of Dr.Komine and his family, I could have very

special two days of observation dental treatment and experience Japanese culture.

Day 9: 2017/10/10 –OHGUCHI IMPLANT SYSTEM

In the 9th

day of training, I got great opportunity to visit Ohguchi implant system office

and learn about their implant placement method. The Ohguchi Augmentation Method

(OAM) was introduced more than 10 year ago, inspired by the characteristic of Japanese jaw

bone. Usually, Japanese jaw bone after lost teeth is quite thin, which is not enough to support

implant. Due to that reason, this method was introduced to save bone during implant

placement procedure as much as possible. The main point of this method is expanding

cancellous bone by set of instruments called Augmenter. This set consists of many

instruments to enlarge bone by turning movement and increasing size orderly. In case of hard

cortical and cancellous bone, there is additional set of instruments to slit bone before using

Augmeter to expand bone. This set of instruments is called Slitter. This method gives many

advantages to patient. The most excellent advantage is that bone is pushed toward the side of

lacking bone by expansion using Agmenter. This great feature of method helps to save bone

and decrease the necessity of artificial bone graft so that it is better for patient in term of time

lasting of artificial material and economy. Additionally, in this method, bone enlargement

doesn’t require drilling of bone, thus it doesn’t require water to cool down. Therefore, it

decreases level of bone damage. Moreover, many patients with dental phobia are afraid of

sound of instrument. It is perfect solution for those patients. I was quite impressed by clinical

case presentation. This method brings very good outcome for different cases such as thin jaw

bone patients, immediate implant placement after extraction of molars, lack of buccal bone

surface… Furthermore, OAM is suitable for all implant types as long as dentists use final

sharping drilling providing for correct implant system. Although this method is more time

consuming, it is great in point of view of minimal intervention treatment.

Thanks to kindness and great introduction from Mr. Furuta, I could understand well this

method. With all its advantages, this method can provide better outcome for implant patient. I

hope that it will be soon available in Viet Nam.

Day 10: 2017/10/11

Advantec Orthodontic laboratory and Dr.Ikemori Orthodontic clinic

Today I got wonderful opportunity to visit Advantec orthodontic laboratory and Dr.Ikemori

dental clinic which were opened at the same time about more than 30 years ago.

Firstly, Mr.Goto briefly introduced and showed me his big orthodontic laboratory which

mainly makes orthodontic appliances, indirect bonding for lingual brackets and clear trays for

non-bracket orthodontic treatment. It is well equipped with many advanced machines such as

3D printer, model scanner. With skillful technician, Advantec laboratory receives orders from

all over Japan.

Next, Dr.Ikemori’s dental clinic gave me strong impression. I was so surprised that clinic was

designed by him. It brings professional yet cozy feeling as soon as patients enter clinic. I

would say that patient data management is so excellent. Accordingly, all information

gathered in patient’s first visit including chief complain, symptoms, general condition,

panoramic, cephalic, front face radiographs, oral and facial photos is saved in software called

Filemaker. Interestingly, this clinic used wonderful software to analyze data call QuickCeph

analysis system. This program analyzes carefully data, compares with normal value then

gives result related to facial type, skeletal type, Angle classification, position of maxilla and

mandible, position of upper and lower incisors, etc… All data, analysis result are then

described careful in a file and handed to patient with detail treatment plan, payment, time

estimating, risks. Everything is explained clearly, thoroughly to patient prior to treatment.

After patient start treatment, follow-up and recall system are truly amazing. Patient will get

PMTC (Professional mechanical teeth cleaning) every checkup time, photo record every 6

months.

Moreover, the things impressed me a lot were the immense knowledge of Dr.Ikemori and his

way to care about patients. The orthodontic treatment is not only for esthetic reason but also

for correction of functional deficiency. It is quite rare to see an orthodontist focusing making

appliances to correct OSA (Obstructing sleeping apnea). In order to diagnose whether patient

had tendency of OSA, Dr.Ikemori gives to patient a Sleep Apnea Simple Inspection

Equipment called PMP-300E to check polysomnogram (PSG test) and SpO2. This test is not

only good for patient with sleeping problem but also good to make treatment plan for patient

having surgically assisted orthodontic treatment.

Page 17: THE REPORT OF DENTAL TRAINING PROGRAM OF ...Uyen ADN2017-report.pdfDr.Nguyen Thi Dung Dental training p rogram of ASEAN Dental N etwork -2017 - 2 - Day 1: 2017/10/02 - Beginning of

- 17 -

Luckily, I could observe many interesting cases in this afternoon. It is clear that treatment

plan is based on analyzing result and patient desire. Each case requires special method

logically following the basic rules of tooth movement and functional restore.

Furthermore, he showed me that building good relationship among dentist, dental hygienist

and patients plays important role in success of orthodontic treatment. Because this treatment

is quite unique, patient needs to come to check every 4-6 weeks and patient cooperation is

very important.

It is truly my honor to visit Dr.Ikemori’s Dental clinic. Although Dr.Ikemori and staffs are

always very busy, I received warm welcome and care. Knowledge and information I had

learnt today surely inspire me a lot to study more about orthodontics.

Day 11: 2017/10/12-Dr.Takagi’s dental clinic

In the 11th

day of training program, I visited Dr.Takagi's dental clinic, which has very

beautiful view from 11th floor. The main point of treatment in this clinic is maintenance of

oral health by regular recall system. Accordingly, patients are checked carefully and informed

interval requirement for next appointment.

In addition, I got to know that after professional mechanical teeth cleaning there are many

kinds of polishing paste with different fine level of grain in paste. Moreover, fluoride plays

important role in oral health care system. There are several types of fluoride gel and

toothpaste. Depend on the purpose of use and the interval between applying time, dentist uses

different fluoride concentration. For example, gel with 9000ppm Fluoride is good for

orthodontic treatment patients. Interestingly, there are toothpastes with flavor such as

chocolate, melon, strawberry which are specially used for children.

Moreover, today I could observe so interesting procedure of design and milling a porcelain

crown. Technician used CEREC machine to scan model with prepared tooth for crown, it can

also be used for intraoral scanning. After designed, crown is milled by CEREC MC XL

Adjustment of contact point and occlusion is necessary. Then crown is added glossy layer

before clinically try-in. I was impressed that procedure can be finished in very short time. It

increases effectiveness of work and reduce human work. It is very convenience for dentist as

well as patient when dental clinic has dental laboratory inside.

I would like to appreciate Dr.Takagi and all staffs for kindness and great hospitality.

Day 12: 2017/10/13-Dr.Yanaga’s dental clinic

In the 12th of training program, I had great time in Dr.Yanaga's dental clinic. One of the most

impressive things in his clinic is that dental chairs are placed in separated room. Thus, it gives

patient individual and private space, which helps calm down patient with dental phobia.

Moreover, in separated room, dentist could have good space to explain the diagnosis and

treatment plan for patient, create great professional atmosphere. Each room is well equipped

with all dental tools, materials, hand pieces for treatment.

Another good point that I would like to learn from this clinic is the isolated surgical room. It

was my first time to see a private dental clinic having great ventilation system like that in big

hospital surgical room. This room is equipped especially for surgery only. It has surgical light,

materials for minor surgery, AED (automated external defibrillator) and oxygen supply.

Especially, implant machine and vacuum are prepared 2 units each, in case that one of them

is broken. Additionally, radiographic room is built with good lead protective layer. It has

periapical and panoramic radiography. Interestingly, there is one treatment room is built with

the same lead layer protection in order to take periapical radiography for emergency patient

who cannot move to X-ray room.

I was impressed by the automatic machine such as dental instrument washing machine,

alginate mixing. Specially, all the water valve and alcohol scrub are sensor touching, which is

very convenient and good for infection control.

If it is possible, I truly want to apply this system to design a dental clinic when I open my

own clinic.

I would like to appreciate Dr.Yanaga, Dr.Yanaga's wife and all staffs for warm welcome and

their hospitality.

Day 13: 2017/10/14-Dr.Ike’s dental clinic

In the 13th

of training program and also the last day in Nagoya, I visited Dr.Ike’s dental clinic,

which is specialized in orthodontic treatment. This clinic was open more than 30 years ago.

That was great experience for me to talk to Dr.Matsuda, who is orthodontic specialist for 40

years. We talk about Damon system, self-ligating bracket system, which had very big

advantages in orthodontic treatment. This system is aim to achieve low friction and low force

in teeth movement. Besides, I got to know about new type of wire called Gummetal.

Interestingly, Gummetal is produced by Toyota Company. This type of wire is more elastic

than usual stainless steel wire, but hardness is lower. Thus, there is less possibility to apply

excessive force when moving teeth in orthodontic treatment.

In addition, this clinic has many preventive orthodontic treatment cases for children. Early

stage treatment for children plays important role in correcting skeletal problem and assisting

later stage of fix-orthodontic treatment. There are some types of removable functional

appliances for children. For example, basically we can use Hawley appliance alone or

Hawley with jaw expansion to correct crowded cases. In other cases of Angle class III, MUH

shield is helpful when children wear it for at least 12 hours/day. Other appliances are Pana

shield, EFline (Orthoplus), etc… I really love the guide pamphlet for children about oral

hygiene, oral health care and especially facial and tongue muscle exercise. They contains

many demonstrate pictures, which can attract children attention. This is very helpful way to

improve and correct some teeth and bone problems. Related to muscle training, there is a

device called Panaring, which is a silicon ring. Accordingly, children with small jaw will

train oral muscle by chewing this ring at least 3 minutes every day.

Thanks to kindness of Dr.Matsuda,

Dr.Ike’s father, Dr.Ike, I could get much

knowledge about functional appliances in

orthodontic treatment. I would love to

explain how important role of muscles in

teeth alignment and jaw bone development

for my patients.

Day 15: 2017/10/16-Aihara Dental Clinic

In the first day in Osaka, I got wonderful time in

Dr.Aihara dental clinic. Warm welcome from

Dr.Aihara, Mr.Shimoda, all dentists, dental

hygienists and staffs made me feel so cozy in a

rainy day. (Fig.43)

Firstly, Mr.Shimoda showed me around clinic. It

is very well designed with 3rd

floor used as staff

and meeting room. With 5 dental chairs, second

floor is used for oral health maintenance

including teeth scaling and polishing, patient

oral health education. Those jobs are done by

dental hygienist. The first floor is main part of

clinic, consists of 8 dental chairs in well

arranged. Besides, there is sterilization zone,

simple dental laboratory, X-ray room with many

advanced machine.

Secondly, as we know, Japanese people aged 65

years old or older is about a quarter of Japan’s

population. Thus, oral health related to aging

includes not only periodontitis, teeth loss but also

dysphagia which is caused by decrease of oral and

tongue muscle strength. Today, I had chance to try

many devices aiming to check oral condition of

elderly. Luckily, I learnt about those devices before

when joined International Dental Course program

in Hiroshima University. Patients at age of 60 years or more are checked about moisture of

mouth and tongue, grasping power, chewing force, repetitive saliva swallowing test, tongue

power test, lip power test, pronunciation test. The results of these tests are recorded then

compared with average value and next check values. It is very important and good to improve

patient’s motivation in rehabilitation and oral health care.

Thirdly, the most impressive thing in

Dr.Aihara’s dental clinic is home visiting

oral health care service. It is truly amazing

service for patient who cannot go to dental

clinic can approach oral health care. It is also

my first time to see a portable dental

treatment kit which contains all required

devices for dental treatment such as turbine,

low-speed motor, and suction in one box.

Luckily, this afternoon, I could follow a

dental hygienist to visit a patient house for

rehabilitation service. This patient had stroke about 6 months ago. At that time, patient

couldn’t eat anything, but with effort from patient himself and care of dental hygienist,

patient step by step get better. In every visit, hygienist check patient oral condition, instruct

exercises of oral muscles. The treatment of this kind of patient need cooperation of medical

doctor, dentists, dental hygienist, nutritionist, etc…

Finally, I really love the way of communication of dentists, dental hygienist and patients in

this clinic. They don’t order patient to do this thing or that thing. Instead, they talk friendly,

build the trust from patients, and ask gently about patients’ habit and concern. Then, from all

information, they raise motivation of oral health care for patient and explain clear about each

method. In addition to verbal explanation, patient always receive take-home message with

clear description. Moreover, all staffs always have time to discuss about treatment plan and

update newest knowledge as well as treatment method.

It would be amazing if I could apply the system of oral health care management in dental

office and home service like this.

Day 16: 2017/10/17-Shofu Company

Today it was my pleasure to have great opportunity to visit Shofu Company. I got a lot of

knowledge about new concept of bioactive dental material.

At the beginning of training, I was briefly introduced to history of establishment of Shofu

Company from very first products to nowadays marketedly available products. Then,

Mr.Nagafuji nicely explained to me about Shofu’s material concept. The most important and

interesting component of Shofu’s products

is S-PRG (Surface-Pre Reacted Glass

ionomer) filler. S-PRG filler has three-layer

structure formed by stable glass ionomer

phase between multi-functional glass core

and surface modified layer. It is a new

bioactive filler material with the ability to

release 6 types of ions (Na+, Sr

2+, Al

3+, F

-,

BO3- and SiO3

2- ). Shofu proposed a new

material category “Giomer” as a collective

term for dental materials which

incorporate S-PRG filler therein and use for various dental fields. The advantages of S-PRG

filler are bioactivity (ion releasing and recharging), acid buffering capacity, remineralization

of dentin, strengthening of tooth structure, formation of acid resistant layer, anti-plaque effect,

and inhibition of enzymatic activity of bacteria. He also presented many scientific evidences

of S-PRG filler functions. (Fig.47)

The “Giomer” material has widely used in various dental fields including sealant materials,

coating materials, restorative materials, bonding, cement. I am interested in sealant material

called BeautiSealant. It is self-etching material, so dentist doesn’t need to etch with

phosphoric acid but use only primer and injectable sealant. This material not only reduces

chair-side time, which is significantly important in pediatric treatment, but also keeps intact

enamel surface of tooth. Besides, I found great interest in PRG Barrier Coat –light cure. I had

many patients with hypersensitivity and high risk caries. This S-PRG content material is

perfect solution of those kinds of patients thanks to its capacity of multi-ion releasing, caries

preventive effect. However, this coat needs to be re-applied every 3 month due to wearing out.

Dr.Nguyen Thi Dung Dental training program of ASEAN Dental Network-2017

- 27 -

Moreover, Mr. Kasaba gave me helpful

information about various types of Shofu’s

composite filling materials. All of those

materials are “Giomers”. Paste type named

Beautifil II obtains high mechanical

resistant strength but requires instruments.

Conversely, flowable type, named

Beautifil Flow, has low mechanical

resistant property but is hard to shape.

Beautifil Flow Plus overcomes demerit of

those two above types. Besides, there are Beautifil Bulk, which is 4mm light curable

composite, Beautifil kids, which has higher radiopacity and specially uses for children and

Beautiful Next, which is one push syringe type.

Furthermore, I had time to know about bonding materials containing S-PRG. They are

BeautiBond, which is all in one type bonding (Etch, primer, bond) and FL-Bond II which is

self-etch system.

With excellent bioactivity feature, “Giomers” surely bring great benefit with idea of minimal

invasive dental treatment in the future. I hope that there will be more Shofu’s products

launched in Vietnam.

Thanks to kindness and hospitality of Mr.Nakatsuka, Mr.Nagafuji, Mr.Shinno, Mr. Kasaba

and all staffs, I could get a lot of new information. I will absolutely use Shofu’s products and

recommend to my colleagues.

Day 17: 2017/10/18

-LIFE Dental Clinic & Wada Precision Dental Laboratory

In the morning, I had chance to visit a beautiful clinic-Life dental clinic-located in downtown

area of Osaka. This clinic is general practice but has many orthodontic cases. The main

concept of orthodontic treatment is minimal invasive treatment with no teeth extraction and

no surgery intervention. Orthodontic treatment cases are done by various methods such as

labial bracket, lingual bracket, invisalign. Today is usual day-off of clinic, so Dr.Kiyotomo

Onishi presented some successful cases. Interestingly, most cases in Life dental clinic are no

teeth extraction cases. Cadiax○R system is used for analysis of mandibular movement in order

to correct asymmetry of face and control occlusal plane. In addition, functional prosthesis

plays important role in occlusal plane control during orthodontic treatment. Thanks to

kindness of Dr.Kiyotomo, I could get to know minimal invasive concept. I will study more

and try to apply this concept for my orthodontic patients.

In the afternoon, I had great time with Wada Precision Dental Laboratories tour. Wada

laboratories were established in 1966. Nowadays, with 44 offices including laboratories and

more than 1 thousand employees spreading all over Japan, Wada Laboratories is definitely

the biggest dental laboratory in Japan. I was so impressed by large-scale and professional

dental work. Wada laboratories do huge amount of works including dental implant prosthesis,

crown, bridge, partial denture, full denture, inlay, and onlay. I was introduced to many parts

of laboratories. First one is CAD/CAM center, which has professional designers, supported

by advanced machine such as 3D-printer. The most impressive thing is that laboratories are

divided into different groups and each group is especially responsible for one kind of work.

Fig.4. Functional appliances

For example, in order to complete a denture,

there are group for work of clasp wax-up,

casting, polishing clasps, teeth alignment, resin

change… Thus, all works are done rhythmically,

effectively. I had chance to see very excellent

work of full zirconia crown done with multi-

layer block. With gradation of color, this kind

of block gives prosthesis the most natural

appearance. As we know, denture and partial

denture are very familiar with all dentists and

patients. However, today I observed 2 types of

denture that I have never known before. They are

Trutissu Plate denture and CAM denture. Trutissu

Plate denture is upper full denture with palatal plate

is made by stainless steel mesh. The biggest

advantage is palatal mesh allow water penetration,

thus it improves palatal sensation when patient eats.

Another interesting denture is CAM denture, which

is made it rigid lock clasp. It gives perfect retention for partial denture and decrease size of

denture. Eventually, two of those types of denture made patient feel more comfortable to use

removable prosthesis. I really admire Wada laboratories works.

I would like to appreciate very warm greeting from all staffs of Wada Precision Dental

Laboratories. It was great time to broaden my knowledge, to see such huge dental

laboratories. I believe that Wada laboratories will continuously develop and open more and

more branch in all over Japan.

Day 18: 2017/10/19-Takara Belmont Company

In the 18th

day of training program, I visited Takara Belmont Headquarter office and

showroom in Osaka. I was impressed with Takara Belmont by the long history of

establishment and widely distribution of branches all over the world. Founded in 1921, main

products of Takara Belmont are hairdressing, cosmetic, dental and medical devices. Belmont

started the first dental unit in 1960. Since then, there are various product lines with different

designs based on wide range of demands for domestic and worldwide market including the

Americans, Europe and Asia. In Viet Nam, there is a Takara Belmont’s factory, which

produce Credia G1 dental chair for market of Vietnam, South America and other areas,

Belmont continually introduces high quality,

creative products that help increase work

efficiency and productivity. The important

thing is Belmont always focuses on creating

better atmosphere in dental treatment room,

fearless and comfortable for patients and

dentist. In August 2017, Belmont launched the

newest design of dental chair into domestic

market. I was so surprised to see new features

of this design. In addition to usually chair

position, there are 90o rotation and 180

o

rotation to position of consultation and face to

face position relatively. This design brings

very comfortable feeling for patient by hiding

all handpiece, low speed handpiece under

table. (Fig.54).

Besides, there is deluxe dental chair design

which have smooth movement feature,

comfortable seat. This design is very suitable

for precise dental work such as treatment

using microscope. The other products are

various in designs as well as colors. In addition to dental unit, they also produces dental light,

dentist chair, X-ray, instrument washer, etc…

Takara Belmont not only has high reputation in dental and medical devices but also has wide

range of other products such as cosmetic, hair salon chair, shampoo chair, esthetic and nail,

etc. (Fig.55)…I was so impressed by professional atmosphere and luxurious products of

Takara Belmont showroom.

Thanks to kindness of Mr.Nakashima and Ms. Koike Azusa, I had wonderful time to see

various and gorgeous design of dental units. I believe that Takara Belmont will develop more

and more, broaden market to all over the world.

Day 19: 2017/10/20-Ryoki Dental Clinic

In the last day of training in Osaka, I had

wonderful time to talk with Dr.Ryoki and

observe his dental clinic. This gorgeous clinic

was opened in 1993. In May of this year, they

moved to current location. My very first

impression is the professional atmosphere

from the entrance of clinic. I was so surprised

that they have a Vietnamese translator for us

during introduction and explanation.(Fig.56).

Firstly, the first floor is well decorated with

Humming bird-the symbol of spirit and the nice

waiting room. First floor also has kids room, where

kids of patients can play freely while their parents

are having dental treatment and nursing room. There

is also monitor connect to dental treatment room so

that parents can see how everything is going.

Next, second floor is the main treatment area with

15 dental units dividing mainly in to 2 sections. One

section is dental maintenance area, where dental

hygienists usually do periodic check and teeth

scaling. Another is dental treatment area, where

dentists are responsible for general treatment of teeth.

Besides, there are 3 counseling rooms, one separated

room for orthodontic treatment only and one surgical

room with microscope treatment. Another room is

radiographic room which is equipped with modern

advanced machine for panoramic, cephalic X-ray as

well as cone beam CT. Interestingly, there is special

elevator for carrying patients’ file from reception

desk to 2nd floor. (Fig.57, Fig.58)

Furthermore, the third floor is designed for special patient treatment so called high-end

treatment. This floor provides higher level of service such as privately, separated treatment

room for each patient, advanced machines. I was impressed that treatment room has monitor

to connect to studying room in first floor, so that all dentists can study the clinic cases

without disturbing patient privacy. Sterilization rooms are well managed and there are

separated place for each floor. Besides, staffs have very nice area to take a rest, to study and

relax after hard working.

Dr.Ryoki dental clinic has its own dental laboratory

which is equipped with advanced machine for digital

design. This laboratory mainly does fixed prosthesis

only.

Furthermore, it is also very nice that Ryoki dental

clinic has home visiting dental service for senior

patients who cannot go to see dentist. They have 6

cars for this kind of service. (Fig.59)

The most interesting part of today training is the discussion of Dr.Ryoki about process of his

clinic development as well as his amazing effort to build an awesome clinic. Among

numerous dental clinics all over Japan, how to build a dental clinic with high reputation and

quality of dental treatment is not easy task. I admire Dr.Ryoki’s effort when he spent much

time to go to many famous clinics and hospitals in the world to improve dental skill. Good

skill is surely indispensable. However, communication and quality of service play an

important role in drawing attention of patients. He took this point seriously and joined many

seminars about management and business running. Accordingly, his clinic not only provides

high quality of dental treatment but also support patient as much as possible to give them the

most comfortable feeling when having treatment in Ryoki Dental Clinic. In addition, all staffs

in this clinic are trained careful to have professional and synchronous working system.

I would like to appreciate Dr.Ryoki for enthusiastically sharing his experience in building and

managing dental clinic from very first step. His wonderful thought gave me motive power to

study more and improve myself. Thanks to all staffs of Ryoki dental clinic, I had great

training time. I definitely apply what I learnt today to my future work. (Fig.60)

Day 22: 2017/10/23- Luminous Hakushima-dori Dental Clinic

In the only day of training program in Hiroshima, I had time to visit Dr. Noriko Kashiwa in

Luminous Hakushima-dori dental clinic. This is the first clinic run by women dentist that I’ve

observed so far.

The clinic is well arranged with 3 dental units of Takara Belmont, which are designed for

patients with dental phobia so that they don’t see handpieces or turbine. The main color of

clinic is pink and it creates an easy feeling for patients when having dental treatment. As

others clinic that I visited, maintenance and preventive dentistry are focused most.

Thanks to the kindness of Dr. Noriko Kashiwa and all staffs, I had great time of observation.

Day 23-27 : 2017/10/24-28 Fukuoka

In the last week of ASEAN dental network training program, I had wonderful and memorable

time in Fukuoka. I visited many 3 dental clinics, 3 dental schools and 2 university hospitals.

With the warm welcome and enthusiastic care

from Dr. Nishihara and his daughter-Dr.Nishihara

Chikako, we firstly visited his dental clinic. The

clinic is located in 2nd and 3rd of big building

with other internal medicine clinic, office and

kindergarten where clinic staffs can send their

children while working. I was impressed by how

big clinic is, with 6 chairs in 2nd floor and 4

chairs in 3rd floor, dental hygienists take care for

oral health maintenance and dentists are

responsible for dental treatment. I really love

atmosphere of working here, everybody are so

kind, helpful to each other. In the afternoon, I visited a pediatric dental clinic which is

specialized for children and orthodontic treatment. The clinic is so cute with a lot of

decorations in wallpaper, on floor, on dental chairs. All of them create good and safe feeling

for children and reduce dental phobia. The main concept of treatment is building a closed

communication with children and reducing stress caused by dental treatment. That is the most

important key to deal with pediatric patients. The other clinic that I had chance to visit is

Dr.Sumi clinic, which newly opened and well equipped with a lot advanced machines

I was so lucky to have chance to visit many

dental schools. The first school that I visited

in Fukuoka is Iken School, which has many

majors including medical treatment and

sports such as physical therapist, judo

therapist, medical business, sport sciences,

assisting living care worker, etc... I was

introduced to the dental hygienist training

class. It is fully equipped with 44 phantom

for pre-clinical training and 12 new dental

chairs for practice time. Therefore,

students get favorable environment to

practice. And those practices are pretty

close to real clinic environment so that

students could imagine and get used to it

before starting work. The second school is

Fukuoka medical college which has 3

faculties: clinical engineer, dental

hygienist and dental technician. Interestingly,

school prepares a lot of clinical machines for students practice class including intensive care

unit, blood filtering for clinical engineer. For dental hygienist class, they prepare real

treatment room with full facilities so that students could have true experiences before

entering clinical training. Especially, they have classes held by dental materials companies. In

these classes, students are introduced the new technique or showed protocol to make crown,

CAD/CAM, denture. It is very rare chance to learn protocol for students.

Moreover, I had great opportunity to visit Kyushu University Hospital, one of the biggest

hospitals in Japan. I was introduced to Oral and maxillofacial surgery department. Looking at

how they work I can understand how busy and professional they are with huge amount of

patients every day. Interestingly, they have very details and tight follow up system for cancer

patients after surgery. According to that, cancer patients need to have routine check up to

detect newly developed cancer as well as recurrent of previous cancer. In addition, I visited

implant center, which has separated areas for operation and prosthesis in order to create the

most comfortable feeling for patients when visiting hospital. Specially, training area for

newly graduated dentist is well designed and operated. New dentists can have good

environment for training their skill of communicating with patients and dental skills. I also

visited Fukuoka dental university hospital, which is a private dental school hospital. Dental

treatment room and training area are also well equipped with a lot of advanced machines.

The last day in Fukuoka, we had time to

visit Consulate General of Viet Nam in

Fukuoka. Kindly welcome from all staffs

here made me feel so warm and understand

that program of ASEAN Dental Network

also got a lot of attention and care.

Joining dental training program of ASEAN Dental Network is one of my greatest experiences.

It’s definitely my honor to join training program. My very first intention when joining this

program is quite simple. I hope to acquire essential updated knowledge and skills in dentistry

as well as expand my point of view to build collaborative relationships in dental field.

However, what I got is beyond my expectations. Warm welcome and intensive care from

members of ASEAN dental network and collaborative dentists, staffs wherever we visited are

so heart-touching. Even though I had 4 years studying in Japan, in this training I needed to

move a lot, changed place many times. It would be very difficult without great help of

members of ASEAN dental network. From very first day, when me and my colleague arrived

Japan to very last day at airport to go back Viet Nam, they always spare their time for us

despite of their tight schedule. With huge support, I could learn a lot of new knowledge

including sterilization systems, advanced machine to assist dentists for better result of work,

new dental materials with great features. Especially, the spirit of enthusiastic working of

dentist here will be my inspiration for my future career. Moreover, I had chance to meet

many great people, who made me realize how much and how hard I have to try much more to

be better dentist.

I hope to use all knowledge and skills learnt from this training course to contribute my little

work to improve oral health care condition in Viet Nam.

I wish ASEAN dental network the success for many more years to come. And I hope asean

Dental Netwok continue having more other great training programs like this in future.

Last but not least, I would to express my great gratitude to all helpful people who willing to

accompany and help me whenever I need during one month training in Japan. I had

wonderful time to study as well as enjoy Japanese culture.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Tu Uyen’s report

First of all, please let me say thank you to Asean Dental Network, Dr Masahiko Wakumoto, all ADN members, sponsors and Japanese host dentists for giving me chance to have this training in Japan. From the beginning of application process until receiving the pass result of interview, from the start of the training until the final day when coming back, I got so thorough care from ADN members and all the kindness from the host dentists. Thank you so much for everything!

My report is also a diary, to take note the interesting trip in Japan.

October 1P

stP,

Spending a night sleep on flight, we arrived Narita airport in the early morning. The first person we met in Japan was Ms. Ayano Obitsu, who gave us a truly warmful greetings at the airport. She was so nice, and took care for us from the tiny things. She helped us to hotel, drove around to try Japanese foods for lunch and we got the very first good moments in Tokyo. Thanks Ms. Ayano a lot.

Location: Wakumoto Dental Clinic - Tokyo

In the morning of the first day, we were trained about business manner. Before the training, I was a little nervous because of differences in culture, but then thanks to Ms. Akane Kato's instruction, I felt more confident in communication in Japan.

Page 42: THE REPORT OF DENTAL TRAINING PROGRAM OF ...Uyen ADN2017-report.pdfDr.Nguyen Thi Dung Dental training p rogram of ASEAN Dental N etwork -2017 - 2 - Day 1: 2017/10/02 - Beginning of

Then we had training in Dr.Wakumoto’s dental clinic. I was impressed with the long history of the clinic which was operated since 1923, and Dr. Wakumoto was the 4th generation of the clinic. I saw there is 41-year-old patient who has been Dr. Wakumoto's patient for more than 38 years.

The clinic was tidy, well-organized with modern dental chair units from Belmont. I learnt from Dr. Wakumoto in infection control system: EPIOS ECO SYSTEM and OZONE DOCTOR. There were some dental materials that’re new to me: Etak Oral care, Bulk Base Hard …

EPIOS ECO SYSTEM

The Epoxy Ecosystem (Epoxy Server) produces sterilizing water. The system keeps the residual chlorine concentration of the unit water spout in the water supply unit accurately, and provides hygienic dental treatment. It is a device that makes continuous sterilization treatment possible with water. This will create a hygienic treatment environment.

EPIOS ELECTROLYZING: a machine used to electrolize water, makes EPIOS CARE water which can help omit biofilm of bacteria.

OZONE DOCTOR is a machine which provides sterilized water by Ozone to use for dental treatment. It can help destroy the biofilm of bacteria in water, to supply the truly clean water for dental treatment.

BULK BASE HARD

It is a new product of Resin filling material, which has many outstanding characteristics compared to old generation of filling material. It is resin-based, light cure (4mm depth, can help reduce time of lighting which reduce heat stimulating to pulp), radiopaque, flowable, fast reliable base and liner, anterior and posterior usage. It has better hardiness if compared to composite material.

Thanks to Dr.Wakumoto, I can have overall ideas of setting up a well-equipped dental clinic. Thank you a lot.

BIOGAIA company – Tokyo

On this day, we came to BioGaia company in Tokyo. We got warmful greetings from Mr. Sebastian Nummelin - Key account Manager Asia Pacific - and his colleagues.

Mr. Nummelin presented to us about history of the company and their products. There were three main products and some more.

The first product is ProDentis which are in lozenge and in drop. One lozenge of Prodentis is equivalent to five drops. It is food supplement containing the patented lactic acid bacterium Lactobacillus reuteri (L.reuteri DSM 17938 and L.reuteri ATCC PTA 5289) that provides good microorganisms and natural balance of bacteria in the oral cavity. It can help reduce the severity of the dental diseases as well as improve the recovery process of treatment of popular diseases of mouth, such as gingivitis, periodontitis, dental caries. And because L.reuteri naturally

Page 44: THE REPORT OF DENTAL TRAINING PROGRAM OF ...Uyen ADN2017-report.pdfDr.Nguyen Thi Dung Dental training p rogram of ASEAN Dental N etwork -2017 - 2 - Day 1: 2017/10/02 - Beginning of

colonizes in humans, it has strong adaption to persist and interact with acid in stomach.

The recommended dose of Prodentis is 1 lozenge or 5 drops in a day, every day in at least 21 days.

The second product is ProTectis for baby. This product contains patented lactic acid bacterium Lactobaccillus reuteri DSM 17938. It helps to provide good microorganisms and natural balance of bacteria in the gut. ProTectis has effectiveness in reducing colic in baby’s gut and in controlling some other problems of the baby’s digestion.

The recommended dose of ProTectis is 5 drops once daily.

The third product is BioGaia Gastrus. It contains Lactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938 and L. reuteri ATCC PTA 6475. Both have strong adaption to persist and interact with humans. This product is for improving stomach’s health.

The recommended dose of Gastrus is 1 chewable tablet per day.

I feel interested in these products, especially ProDentis which has been launched in Vietnam market. Its usage can help improve the successful rate of non-surgical periodontal treatment for patients. It can also provide better dental health as well as reduce the amount of antibiotics for patients and community. I will give this for my adult patients as well as kid patient to give better recovery and good prevention of oral diseases.

Thank you Mr. Sebastian Nummelin for your introduction to new products which have lots of advantages for oral health and systemic health.

On the third day of the training program, we study at Dr.Yajima’s dental clinic.

We arrived at Yamanashi around 8.30 and got greetings from Dr.Yajima’s wife at the station. She took us to the clinic and the training started at 9am.

The clinic located in the downtown, well-equipped and the appointment list was quite busy. I really appreciated Dr. Yajima’s generosity in sharing his knowledge and experiences to us. I was so thankful for everything we got from Dr.Yajima and his wife.

The first thing that made deep impression on me was YSGG laser, which can be used in almost all dental treatment: dental caries, endodontics, periodontitis, extraction… Besides, YSGG is very helpful in periodontitis treatment, in killing bacteria, sterilizing periodontal pocket, tissue regeneration. DrYajima did some cases of gingivectomy and periodontal treatment with YSGG laser. The result was marvelous, no bleeding, no pain.

HLLT (High Reactive Level Laser Therapy) is used in surgery. LLLT (Low Reactive Level Laser Therapy) is used in internal medicine (Temporomandibular Joint disease) and regeneration of tissues. Combination of two therapies gives high success rate. Dr. Yajima showed us about mechanisms of YSGG laser, and gave us chances to practice with laser on eggs, sausages and paper. This was great!

In this day, I knew about Fotosan Blue (LAD and light curing pen). It can kill bacteria, curing composite, immediate effect, against wide variety of microorganisms, no side effects. It is useful in treatment of periodontitis, endodontic infection, profound caries, gingivitis.

Page 46: THE REPORT OF DENTAL TRAINING PROGRAM OF ...Uyen ADN2017-report.pdfDr.Nguyen Thi Dung Dental training p rogram of ASEAN Dental N etwork -2017 - 2 - Day 1: 2017/10/02 - Beginning of

One day in DrYajima’s clinic, we studied a lot about procedure of consulting patient, making dental record, making treatment plan as well as dental hygiene education for patient. I could study and apply to my work in Vietnam. Thankyou so much DrYajima for everything!

I really want to express my gratitude to DrYajima and his wife, as well as clinic’s staff s for everything today. We got memorable time at Yamanashi.

On the 4th day, we got training from Dr. Akira Otsuki at Otsuki Dental Care clinic (ODC).

When we arrived, we got warmful greetings from Dr. Otsuki and all of his staff members. This was so heart-touching! Thankyou so much Dr. Otsuki!

We were so surprised when being recommended about the clinic. That was a 4-floor building which had great design and decoration.

What made us really surprised was that there was a kindergarten inside the clinic, in the first floor! This kindergarten is for taking care of clinic staffs’ babies so that all the staffs, especially female dental hygienists, can work happily while their kids are playing safely in the ground floor. This kindergarten also takes care of patients' children so that patients can get the dental treatment without worrying about their kids. This shows that Dr. Otsuki pays attention to his staffs and takes care for the patients so well!

Page 47: THE REPORT OF DENTAL TRAINING PROGRAM OF ...Uyen ADN2017-report.pdfDr.Nguyen Thi Dung Dental training p rogram of ASEAN Dental N etwork -2017 - 2 - Day 1: 2017/10/02 - Beginning of

We are also amazed at the way Dr. Otsuki designed the building. He placed separated sections in different floors. Floor of "happy kids" includes a large playing ground for kids to play and exercise while waiting. After playing, the kids will go to booth of dental unit in which dental hygienist takes care of the baby's dental health. This area is for prevention, including consultation, photo records, PMTC (professional Mechanical Tooth Cleaning), dental hygiene education… So amazing that there are a lot of kids on the floors but there is no cries, they looks so happy. And I specially realize that all the dental hygienists always smile when they are working. So good environment for the kids!

Dental unit for taking dental care for kids

The treatment section stays in the 3P

rdP floor. There are many separated treatment

rooms with many staff dentists working in this floor. All rooms are designed in cozy style with modern equipment and high quality materials. I got big amazing at the dental systems in the surgical room, which includes a lot of high end machines and dental unit. What a pity that I did not take pictures of such an admirable clinic.

The last floor is prevention section for adults. They will get periodically screening and PMTC which is taken by dental hygienists. Dental hygienists take care for a lot of people in the community and they got high spirit of responsibility.

What impressed me the most was that Dr. Otsuki specifically pays attention to Prevention of Dental diseases. He tried all ways to improve the dental health of the community. Moreover, he always cared for patient’s desire and always did

Page 48: THE REPORT OF DENTAL TRAINING PROGRAM OF ...Uyen ADN2017-report.pdfDr.Nguyen Thi Dung Dental training p rogram of ASEAN Dental N etwork -2017 - 2 - Day 1: 2017/10/02 - Beginning of

what’s best for patients, reflected in the way he chose treatment plan. So admirable!

I really like the way Dr. Otsuki and all staff dentists as well as dental hygienist have lunch together and share clinical cases. This strengthens bond between staffs and improve the work quality. Dr. Otsuki always makes chances for all staffs to gain more and more knowledge.

We studied a lot from Dr. Otsuki, about his high responsibility for prevention of dental diseases for community, about his enthusiasm of working and transferring knowledge to other staffs. He also thinks of his country, with the desire to devote more for his Japan. This makes us admire him a lot.

After one day training at Dr. Otsuki Dental clinic, I got a lot enthusiasms of the job, and willing to devote for the dental care in my country. I will apply what I have learned from Dr. Otsuki when I come back to work in Vietnam.

Thankyou Dr. Otsuki and all of his staffs a lot for everything they give us today.

Saitama with Dr. Nemoto. Thankyou Dr. Nemoto a lot for accompanying with us all day.

We arrived at Dr. Komine's clinic and were welcomed by Dr. Komine and his wife. They gave us warm greetings and took care for us so well.

At first, Dr. Komine introduced us the machine that can detect systemic diseases : machine Sky-10es with software Esteck system complex. His wife also supported alot to show us how it works. Then there was presentation about diet and effects of

Page 49: THE REPORT OF DENTAL TRAINING PROGRAM OF ...Uyen ADN2017-report.pdfDr.Nguyen Thi Dung Dental training p rogram of ASEAN Dental N etwork -2017 - 2 - Day 1: 2017/10/02 - Beginning of

diet on oral health and all body health. We saw there were a lot of machines in this major. Dr. Komine had broad knowledge about nutrition and healthy diet.

Then we followed Dr. Komine into dental treatment room. There were some equipments that were new to us: Saliva pH and Caries detector Dignodent. Dr.Komine used these machines as a support for diagnosis and consultation. These were both important and useful in assessment of dental caries.

There were also new equipments to me: Physiotherapy and rehabilitation. This was a good machine which can support treatment of some diseases like TMJ disorder or problems of cervical spine.

I was amazed at the machines that Dr.Komine used. He invested so much for machines to support for diagnosis and treatment. He had a lot of enthusiasm on his work and high spirits of working and searching for new things.

KavoDignodent machine which was impressive, used to detect dental caries. The purpose of this device is to find initial caries or hidden caries, using laser fluorescence technology.

The mechanism of this device is using laser at wavelength of 655 nm, with florescence to illuminate the altered tooth surfaces or bacteria buildup that are the markers of early stage cavities. The amount of florescence that is seen correlates directly to the size of the cavity, which gives your dentist an accurate picture of exactly what is going on in thẻ tooth. It is handy and easy to use.

Thankyou Dr. Komine's family a lot for everything.

October 10P

thP,

On first training day in Nagoya, we visited Apex Medica office to study about Ohguchi Augmentation Method (OAM).

Mr. Furuta met us at the train station and lead us to the office. We saw presentation about OAM and felt delighted with this implant method. We also raised some questions about clinical information and Mr.Furuta explained us thoroughly.

OAM was invented by Dr Hiroshi Ohguchi. This method reduces almost 90% of drill-using in implant surgery. The procedure begins with marking on bone, using round drill 0.3mm to enter cortical bone. Next, use a special reamer to make a path. Inside spongy bone, start using the OAM Augmeters. There are 2 unit sets: straight-augmeters for the front position and angle-augmeters for the back position. Each set includes 16 handpieces with increasing gradually in diameter. These will help enlarge the hole gradually until it reaches the target diameter equivalent to desired fixture. The last stage is using the last shaping-drill of each implant system that will be placed.

So almost all stages of using drills are eliminated, except for first marking drill and last shaping drill. However, in case of extremely high density bone (D1), there will be need of using conventional drills.

In some cases of narrow width of bone or in cases of reducing stress on bone, a set of OAM bone splitter should be used.

Mr.Furuta showed us some clinical cases using OAM, the results were also published on The journal of Oral Implants 2009, No. 39. The results of clinical cases’re good.

In my opinion, this was a totally new method to me. I have done implant surgery, we use the conventional method using drills during procedure, handpieces are just used as assisted method, not the main method. So when I heard about this, I thought this can be useful to reduce the scare for patients who are always afraid of feelings "being drilled into the bone".

In the morning, we went to Avantec Lab company with Dr Ike. This was a big and modern orthodontic lab which had many high-tech dental lab machines, such as 3D printers. Mr.Goto told us that Avantec lab received a lot of orders of dentists in Nagoya and around Japan.

Then we came with Dr Ike and Mr. Goto to Ikemori Orthodontic Office to meet Dr Yoshiyuki Ikemori. We had a training in this clinic in the afternoon.

The training began at 1.30pm. We got great support from Dr. Ikemori's staffs and we felt so thankful to the enthusiasm and all the time that Dr.Ikemori gave us. Thank you Ikemori Orthodontic Office a lot!

Firstly, Dr. Ikemori taught us about OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea). In this syndrome, patient's breath is shallow and patient may briefly stop breathing, during sleep. This happens when there is something partially or completely blocking upper airway during sleep. It reduces oxygen to vital organs and can be very dangerous. Most of cases have cause from the tongue. If the tongue is too big or collapses, it falls back to the throat and blocks airway.

For OSA diagnosis, Dr. Ikemori would give patient the sleep watch PMP-300E to test PSG (Polysomnography) : Sleep stage scoring and Interpreting. This is simple test to record 7 items of respiration, respiratory efforts, snoring, SpO2, pulse rate, posture, body movement. The data would be transferred to the specialist's computer and analyzed with the specific software.

Page 52: THE REPORT OF DENTAL TRAINING PROGRAM OF ...Uyen ADN2017-report.pdfDr.Nguyen Thi Dung Dental training p rogram of ASEAN Dental N etwork -2017 - 2 - Day 1: 2017/10/02 - Beginning of

For OSA treatment, we should use oral appliance. The traditional appliance is TRD (Tongue retaining device). This has a disadvantage that after 20 minutes wearing intra oral, the tongue becomes dry and detached from appliance and falls back to throat. Another choice is MAD (Mandibular Advancement Device). This device can move the lower jaw forward to open the airway. The Boil and Bite mouth guard also has advantages on moving the lower jaw forward to open the breathing way.

Then Dr. Ikemori showed us the procedure of data collection for an orthodontic case, from x-rays, intra oral photos, extra oral photos, jaw movement record. His staff showed us how to use software for Cephalometric analysis. The analysis was professional and quick.

Dr Ikemori also recommended us the software of administration as well as documents needed for orthodontic treatment, which includes the consent form. Dr Ikemori gave a thoroughly consultation to patients and their parents. And we studied a lot from his professional communication.

I also admire Dr. Ikemori a lot about his point of view, that he also cares for patients and always provides the best treatment and services, even patient's case has finished for a long time.

Page 53: THE REPORT OF DENTAL TRAINING PROGRAM OF ...Uyen ADN2017-report.pdfDr.Nguyen Thi Dung Dental training p rogram of ASEAN Dental N etwork -2017 - 2 - Day 1: 2017/10/02 - Beginning of

Dr Ikemori taught us in individual clinical cases. There were a lot of difficult cases in his clinic, including referred patients. He showed us the amazing results of treatment, with full data: extra-oral, intra oral photos and Xrays. He also taught us about asymmetric cases, which needed surgery accompanied with orthodontic treatment. We have learned from clinical cases about Quad Helix appliances, minibrace. The knowledge that Dr Ikemori gave us is so valuable!

We have learned from him a lot, especially the diagnosis and treatment planning must be based on evidences and data, which must be collected on first day of consultation. For examples, in cases of decision whether expand maxilla or not, orthodontist must consider on data, not just on sight.

After one day training about orthodontics, I felt very delighted. We have learned a lot from Dr. Ikemori, in many majors: orthodontics professional, clinic design, examination and consultation procedure, data collection, softwares, staff training...

Thankyou Dr Ikemori and his wife for all the time and warmful teaching that they gave us today. Thank you Dr Ike for instructing us, and giving us chance to study about orthodontics.

October 12P

Today, we had a training at Dr Takagi's dental clinic in the morning. The clinic located in the 11th floor of a building in center of Nagoya. It had cozy design and the staffs were very nice to us.

Dr Takagi taught us some lessons on CT and instructed us about clinical cases.

The clinic had many modern equipments, such as Sirona CerecOmnicam and Sirona Cerec MC XL, which provided in-clinic lab and one visit prosthodontics.

Sirona CerecOmnicam can capture the prepared tooth and computerize it, it can give the precise information of the tooth. Data will send to Cerec MC XL, which is the fast wet milling and grinding unit with many production options. There are benefit from high speed and precision and it can switch from grinding to milling in just a few steps.

Page 54: THE REPORT OF DENTAL TRAINING PROGRAM OF ...Uyen ADN2017-report.pdfDr.Nguyen Thi Dung Dental training p rogram of ASEAN Dental N etwork -2017 - 2 - Day 1: 2017/10/02 - Beginning of

We followed one unit of Zirconia crown, the design on CerecOmnicam took about 5 minutes and more 10 minutes for milling on Cerec MC XL. This can produce the crown in total less than 30 minutes and delivery of crown for patient can finish in just 1 visit.

Thank you Dr Takagi a lot for giving us a chance to study at Takagi Dental Clinic. And Thank you Dr Ike very much for your help today.

Today, we had a training at Dr. Takenori Yanaga's dental clinic.

We arrived at the station around 8.45am and Dr. Yanaga' s wife picked up us to dental clinic. We got so warmful greetings from Dr. Yanaga, Mrs.Yanaga and all of the staffs. Thank you so much Dr. Yanaga's clinic for the hospitality.

I got a lot of knowledge today. At first, I was amazed at the air ventilation which provided clean air in the clinic. Negative room pressure prevented cross contamination between rooms. It was amazing that Dr.Yanaga designed the system by himself, due to his experience working in the Air Force in the past.

In the clinic, each dental chair unit located in private room, and there was one sterilized surgerical room which was used for oral surgery and dental implant surgery.

Page 55: THE REPORT OF DENTAL TRAINING PROGRAM OF ...Uyen ADN2017-report.pdfDr.Nguyen Thi Dung Dental training p rogram of ASEAN Dental N etwork -2017 - 2 - Day 1: 2017/10/02 - Beginning of

Dr.Yanaga equipped the clinic with professional machines. Miele Professional washing machine was used for rinsing dental handpieces before being sterilized. Dental laser machine was for cases of caries and periodontitis treatment as well as for disinfection in surgery. Besides, there’re intra-oral cameras, Preventative Microscope. In the surgical room were implant surgical equipment, AED-life device, oxygen and other supportive machines.

Thank you very much for all the precious knowledge and warmful greetings from Dr.Yanaga's clinic today.

Today we had training at Dr Ike's dental clinic. The clinic got nice decoration and located right on the gate of Gokiso subway station.

The training began at 9am. We got great welcoming and teaching from Dr Jun Ike, Dr Hiroshi Ike and Dr Matsuda. The clinic's staffs also supported us a lot. Thank you so much Dr Ike for giving us opportunity to study at your clinic.

Today, we followed Dr Ike and Dr Matsuda to see general dental treatment and orthodontic treatment. Dr Matsuda had long time of orthodontic experiences, the knowledge that he transferred to us was so valuable.

At first, Dr Ike showed us some supportive appliances to use for kid patients in the early years. There were many appliances used for removing bad habits like tongue sucking, tongue pushing..., to fix the growth of the jaws. I saw some appliances this morning, such as OITA appliance and MUH shield for Class III cases, or EF line Orthoplus appliance for class II malocclusion. These should be worn all night time and some in day time, at least 11-12 hours a day, and last for 6-12 months, depending on each case.

Page 56: THE REPORT OF DENTAL TRAINING PROGRAM OF ...Uyen ADN2017-report.pdfDr.Nguyen Thi Dung Dental training p rogram of ASEAN Dental N etwork -2017 - 2 - Day 1: 2017/10/02 - Beginning of

I also watched Dr Ike doing some orthodontic treatment for kid patients, and he always explained to patient's mother about his/her condition, as well as what he did for patient today and what will be next. He also arranged appointments by himself, not by receptionist, to make a bonding relationship between dentists and patients. Dr Ike also gave patient the brochures of how to have good diet for dental health, how to stay away from bad habits... These were very helpful for education for patients.

Then Dr Matsuda showed us Damon Othodontic system, which has self ligating brackets. Dr Ike gave us the brackets to try how to use. I then had chance to know about Gummetal wire which was softer and more durable than Standard SS wire.

Dr Ike also showed us the gap-closing springs, which had many types different in force: 50gr, 100gr, 150gr, 200gr..Dr Ike and Dr Matsuda taught us about the differences and how to apply them to orthodontic treatment.

Today training at DrIke 's clinic and last training on 11th Oct at Dr. Ikemori's clinic gave me a lot of knowledge about Orthodontics treatment. I will study more about orthodontics and may apply these knowledge as well as instruments we studied in Japan into my work in Vietnam.

Thank you so much.

October 16P

thP,

On the first day in Osaka, we had training at Aihara dental clinic. We got so nice greetings from Dr. Aihara and his wife, from Mr. Tomoya and all of the staffs. They hold Vietnam flags to greet us, that is so heart touching! Thank you AIHARA dental clinic so much for all the great things you gave us today.

The clinic was very modern, cozy designed, and there were 13 dental units in 2 floors. There were 8 dentists responsible for dental treatment in 8 units on first floor, assisted by dental hygienists. The treatment’s various, from general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, oral surgery including dental implant, and prosthodontics. 5 units on second floors were for PMTC and maintainance of oral health, taken by dental hygienists. All the dentists and dental hygienists were very professional and had good communication with patients. They always smiled and explained patients so thoroughly. On the third floor were meeting room, every Monday would have a meeting at 1.15pm, lasting 30 minutes, so that everyone shared knowledge to each other. This is so great!

Dr. Aihara, Mr.Tomoya and other staffs recommended us very detailed about the clinic. This made us understand well and study a lot from the clinic. We saw that there are many high tech dental machines in the clinic: Laser, Intra oral camera, Sirona Bluecam and Sirona CAD/CAM MC XL, Panoramic X-rays, Cephalometric x-rays, dental implant surgical equipment... They also used electrolized water to control infection.

Today, I also knew about family dental care. Aihara clinic had portable dental units, and 4-5 cases a day applied with this service. Dental hygienist would come to patient's house, who were very old or having problem with their health and could not move to clinic. We had a chance to go to patient's house with a dental hygienist today.

Patient was a 63 year old man, who had a stroke 6 months ago, and at that time, he could not eat, he just had food through feeding tube. So once a week, during last 6 months, Aihara clinic would send a dental hygienist to his house to train grinding, and swallowing for him. Then he had upper and lower full dentures, he could eat and chew 3 meals a day. We went with Aihara staff to patient's house. At first, she practiced exercise for patient's muscles, practiced breathing, asking patients some common sentences to check his memory. Then she cleaned intraoral mucous,

Page 58: THE REPORT OF DENTAL TRAINING PROGRAM OF ...Uyen ADN2017-report.pdfDr.Nguyen Thi Dung Dental training p rogram of ASEAN Dental N etwork -2017 - 2 - Day 1: 2017/10/02 - Beginning of

checked strength of tongue, cheek and lips muscles. She also instructed his family member about special diet for him. Her work's so professional.

Then back to clinic, we also had chances to try the machines of testing strength of muscles and oral functions, such as saliva flow, grinding force, hand power, tongue strength. I also tried to test bacteria in plaque and saliva with microscope.

Then followed some clinical cases, I found that Dr. Aihara's consultation procedure is very thoroughly, he talked and explained in detail with patient and patient's parents. He also gave brochures to patients after each treatment to remind them what he had said. This helped strengthen patient's knowledge and trust.

Dr. Aihara also instructed us how to use orthodontic appliances, such as head gear, and in which cases to use them. We followed some clinical cases from the staff dentist and we studied a lot from them. We also saw that they had so good infection control in dental treatment.

We got great support from Aihara dental clinic today, we had chance to learn so many knowledge from Dr. Aihara and his staffs. Thankyou very much!

thP,

Today we had a training in Kyoto. We arrived Shofu company at 10am and we got veryglad greetings from Mr Nakatsuka - General manager Research and Development, Mr. Akihiro Nagafugi, Mr Koji Hori and Mr Hideto Kasaba.

After a brief talk with Mr Nakatsuka and his team, we began to learn about their special products.

First presentation was "New bio-active material, expansion of GIOMER products based on S-PRG". The presentation gave us numerous information about the history of Bio-active materials, from OHAGURO (black teeth), then Saforide, HY agent, to S-PRG filler.

The technology GIOMER was developed by Mr Nakatsuka nearly 20 years ago and this technology already got international copyright. GIOMER are products that contains S-PRG filler, which are bio-active dental materials with preventive effects. S-PRG filler are Surface Pre Reacted GlassIonomer filler, which had advantages of ion releasing (Bio-active effect), acid neutralization and anti-plaque effect.

The ion released from S-PRG include Fluoride ion, Strontium ion, Borate ion, Aluminum ion, Sodium ion and Silicate ion. These ions have effects of anti-bacteria, remineralization, improve acid resistance by forming fluoro-apatite and strontium-apatite, bactericidal, anti-plaque, acceleration and inhibition of hypersensitivity, and calcification of bone tissue. S-PRG filler is the special and unique products of GIOMER from Shofucompany, such as composite resin, Bonding agent, Dental cement...

On the second presentation, we got information about composite and sealant products from Shofu with GIOMER technology. We were given detailed information about each product and how to use them. The clinic located in second floor of a building in center of Osaka, it had modern and nice design, giving comfortable feeling when arriving. Dr Onishi was very kind to us. He introduced his clinic which had 3 dental units with modern facilities and equipments. He was a general dentist but he focused on orthodontics and he got a lot of success in difficult cases. He gave us a presentation of clinical cases and the results were great. Orthodontic treatment in Life Dental Clinic involved with labial brackets, lingual brackets, Invisalign and some other supportive phases such as jaw expansion appliances...

They have 550 dental technicians, and 23 of them are super technicians who passed the strict examination of company. Their products are numerous, and they do all kind of dental lab services. The most impressive products of Wada are innovative dental prosthetics which were created by themselves, such as: "Thrutissue-Plate" which supplies saliva through the metal plate for patients suffering from Sjoren syndrome and other dry mouth diseases, "CAM-denture"

Page 62: THE REPORT OF DENTAL TRAINING PROGRAM OF ...Uyen ADN2017-report.pdfDr.Nguyen Thi Dung Dental training p rogram of ASEAN Dental N etwork -2017 - 2 - Day 1: 2017/10/02 - Beginning of

which bracing arm is openable and reduces the stress on the abutment tooth, "Smart denture", which eliminates the metal bracing arm and attained esthetic demand. We had chances to see these products at the lab and they are excellent, really wonderful.

We went to all lab buildings of Wada in Osaka. The first is CAD/CAM center. In this center, there is machine 3D print and CAD system. They do a huge amount of work and their staff are very professional. Then we moved to see other labs of Wada company which locate in different buildings nearby. In each floor of building, they do each phase of work. thP,

We had chance to visit Takara Belmont company in Osaka. We arrived at the company at 2pm and we got so nice greeting from Mr Hajime Nakajima - Section manager of Dental Global sales section for overseas office and Ms Azusa Koike from the same department.

We started with a brief introduction about the corporation. Ms Koike presented about history of Takara Belmont which was founded in Osaka since 1921. From 1932 they started to produce chairs. Now they spread oversea to 11 other countries with 15 branches in many cities. There is one factory in Dong Nai - Vietnam, which started its production in 2012.

There are four main categories of products: Dental, Medical, Hair dressing and Cosmetics.

We had chance to visit the showroom of Dental chair units with a lot of models from the basic to the high-end. All of dental chairs had so good design and give the comfort for both dentist, assistant, patient and patient's relatives. Their outlook was eye-catching, material had high quality and design was excellent.

Page 64: THE REPORT OF DENTAL TRAINING PROGRAM OF ...Uyen ADN2017-report.pdfDr.Nguyen Thi Dung Dental training p rogram of ASEAN Dental N etwork -2017 - 2 - Day 1: 2017/10/02 - Beginning of

Belmont has many markets in many countries, and depending on which country they export, they produce the chair suitable for dentists' demand. For examples, Japanese dentists prefer the dental chair which has side delivery, and European dentists prefer over-patient delivery... They also pay attention in designing for both right and left-handed dentists. In Europe, there are many left handed people, so Belmont produces dental type that the tray can move from right to left to suit left-handed dentists. Their thought and design are so great.

We also tried on the newest model Cierto which had so luxury look, high end material and absolutely intelligent design. Its movement’re very smooth and gave best comfort for patients. There’re also consultation table nearby and with the rotatable patient chair, dentist could talk and consult freely without movement his/her chair.

We also know that in Vietnam, we can find 3 models: Clesta II and ClestaeIII, which are imported from Japan, and model Credia G1- which are produced in Vietnam factory.

After visiting dental chair showroom, we moved to visit Takara Belmont showroom of hair dressing and cosmetics. They had a big building for this category, and their products’re so amazing!

Today, we had an interesting afternoon at one of 3 biggest Japanese corporations of dental chair products. We got a lot of helpful information in dental chair unit market. This information are valuable for us as well as our colleagues when we have plan to open our clinics in the near future. Thankyou so much Mr. Nakajima and Ms. Koike.

October 20P

thP,

On the last training day in Osaka, we had chance to visit Ryouki Dental Clinic. When we arrived Takaida station, we’re picked up by Ms Masuda, and driven to the clinic. We passed across the old building of Ryouki clinic that we saw in last year trainee's report. The new location was nearby and much bigger.

Ryouki Dental Clinic was a 4-floor building, located in a busy street. This building was opened since May 2017. It had modern design and elegant decoration. We got so warmful and memorable greetings from Ryouki clinic's general director – Dr. Ryoki Seiichi and his staffs. Ms Masuda and an English speaking dental hygienist welcomed us with all kindness and accompanied with us all time. Then we were really surprised that they hired one Vietnamese translator to interpret during our visit. Although we can communicate by English without any obstacles, their preparation of Vietnamese translator made us feel so appreciated of their hospitality. They gave us the first impression of professional working.

After brief introduction, we went around the clinic for a seeing. On the first floor was reception desk which had impressive decoration and prominent image: Hummingbird. They said that DrRyoki choosed Hummingbird to be the image of clinic for its noble characteristics. During time at Ryouki Clinic, and after listening to Dr.Ryoki, I have to say I admire the vision that DrRyoki set up and run the clinic for 24 years since 1993. He had the noble spirit of a Hummingbird.

On first floor, there was also kid room where the babies’re taken care of, during parents get dental treatment upstairs. There’s camera connected to monitor so that parents could see babies while they’re apart. This’s similar to Otsuki dental clinic and gave us the thinking that the director took care a lot for patients.

Nearby receptionist was radiology room including CT machine. I also visited stelization rooms in each floor as well as in-house labs with a lot of high end machines.

In the second floor was counselling rooms, dental booths for dental hygienists, treatment areas for dentists and private rooms of orthodontics and dental implant surgery. On the third floor’re private treatment rooms for special patients, who got services out of insurance. Ryouki dental clinic had 18 dentists and 20 dental hygienists, with many dental chairs and private treatment rooms. They had microscopes, and other surgical equipments, assisted with Sedation. We saw that the clinic was very high quality equipped, with professional staffs.

Page 66: THE REPORT OF DENTAL TRAINING PROGRAM OF ...Uyen ADN2017-report.pdfDr.Nguyen Thi Dung Dental training p rogram of ASEAN Dental N etwork -2017 - 2 - Day 1: 2017/10/02 - Beginning of

On the 4th floor were rooms for staffs and management. This area’s for staff resting and studying. They also had space outdoor to breath fresh air and take a view over the city for relaxing.

After being introduced around the clinic, we had a talk with DrRyoki. I have to say that DrRyoki has an outstanding vision and point of view. His knowledge is admirable and he has open mind to share his knowledge and experience to young dentists. The talk lasted for more than one hour, and we got sharing of valuable experiences from Dr.Ryoki. During the first 10 years, Dr.Ryoki went to uncountable seminars and clinics to earn knowledge. He went to many countries, both the big and the small, tried services at the most famous clinic of the place he visited and asked for their experiences. He studied a lot about techniques and management and found out his way of business. We asked him many questions about management, business run, and he frankly answered us with all enthusiasm. He set up the clinic with focus on high-skilled dental team and outstanding services. His clinic gets a lot of patients not only in Osaka, but also from other cities as well. He also has many patients who are famous artists. What he brings to patients are not only good dental treatment, he also brings them the best customer services. We feel so appreciated and thankful for his sharing, we feel that he sparkled our passion of work. Just several hours at Ryouki clinic, we studied uncountable knowledge and found out what we should do to succeed.

End of training day, we got so warmful goodbye from Dr.Ryoki and other staffs.

Thankyou so much for an amazing training day at Ryouki dental clinic.

Today morning we had a training at Luminous Dental Clinic in Hiroshima. When we arrived, we got charming greetings from Dr. Noriko Kashiwa and her staffs.

The clinic has elegant design, giving warm feelings when getting into. With the concept to make patients comfortable without scary feelings, Dr Kashiwa set up the 03 dental units from Belmont which can hide the instrument when patient entered the room. She’s very elegant and worked softly.

We got many information from her, about bacterial therapy with Biogaia products, as well as materials for dental paste and periodically maintainance.

We also learned from Dr Kashiwa alot about her consultation and communication with patients. Thank you so much Dr Kashiwa and Luminous clinic.

October 24P

thP,

In the morning, we studied at Dr Nishihara’s dental clinic which located in a building in a busy district of Fukuoka, near Kyushu University Hospital. Second and third floors were Nishihara Dental Clinic, also called Oral Care clinic. The clinic had elegant decoration and gave customers the warm feeling when arriving. There’re 02 receptionists, more than 10 dental hygienists, 6 full-time and 5 part-time dentists and some dental assistants. The clinic was quite busy, with focus on both treatment and maintainance of oral health. We studied a lot from Dr Nishihara, on dental treatment and clinic operation. What we had learnt from Nishihara Clinic is so valuable in our career.

In the afternoon, we moved to Hiroko Dental clinic which was specialized in pediatric dentistry. Being in this clinic, we were in the children’s world. Most of patients’re young boys and girls, they looked familiar with all the staffs, and they cooperated unbelievably. All the staffs were well-trained to work with children and they could persuade the young patients to do dental care without fear. Children would have maintainance every 1-3 months. If patient was first time, he or she would have plaque detector and mother would be trained to brush baby’s teeth at clinic. When the child needed treatment, they would be treated quickly by a dentist and 2 hygienists with six-hand technique. Watching the dental team doing treatment for child patients, I studied a lot about their skills. I surely would apply to my work when doing dental care for my tiny patients in my hospital. We did not take any pictures in Hiroko dental clinic because there were always children on chairs that we should not ask for pictures of them to add in this report.

In the evening, we had great chance to attend Kyushu University Academic lecture: Root end resection. The presentation was so interesting and there were detailed videos of how-to-do as well as its result. Thanks Dr Nishihara a lot for inviting us to attend this lecture.

In the afternoon, we visited Kyushu University hospital, a 1200-bed hospital, one of the largest hospitals in Japan. This was so great chance for me.
