“The picture of Brian Edmonds, Carlos, and myself really means a lot to me because it was the first time I really bonded with Brian. We all went to Salvation Army to pick out ridiculous clothes for a monster truck event that night. We bought UGA shirts and jean shorts that were just way too small for us. I still remember Brian telling me that his shirt was a child’s medium, hence the absurdly tight fit. Later that night, we cut the jean shorts even shorter, because they

simply ‘weren’t short enough for our massive quads’ and ‘didn’t give us enough range of motion.’ Brian was the rare type of person who brought out the best in everyone just by being himself. He

pushed your boundaries and enriched your life by living his completely unfiltered. Brian was a brother to me, and I will never forget him or the memories.” - Brian Lee

“Brian was just everything good. There’s no other way to put it. He was the most amazing man, the most caring and genuine and loving guy; the kind of person you don’t encounter twice in this life. Words could never capture him or the way he laughed or how he hiked up his spandex (for speed) or his casual way of making everyone feel included and liked. When Brian laughed you couldn’t help but join in, especially if he high-fived himself for one of his awful puns. His overwhelming happiness and contentment with every little thing in life was incredible. Whether it was thrifting for new

apartment ‘art’, watching a good (or awful) movie, or just having a really big cup of milk, he could always find something to be excited about. He was a guy who would fearlessly belt out ‘A Thousand Miles’ on regatta road trips and talk for hours about the immensity of the cosmos. You just couldn’t help but love him. It’s impossible to pick one picture that truly does him justice. But that smile - that’s Brian. He was the most amazing, thoughtful,

selfless guy I ever could have imagined or deserved. I miss my best friend. To say it’s a loss is a gross understatement, because he was more loved than he’ll ever know, a better man than he ever gave himself credit for, and he is so, so missed.” - Sofia Tuttle

“Brian and I had wanted to race a pair for months but had not had the chance. We spent a lot of time in the pair over the course of the season, and we were looking forward to this race because it would be the last one of the season and it would be some tough competition. During the race, Brian

stroked perfectly for the full 5000 meters and held a tight inside course down the river to post the best time by over 10 seconds. It was the last race of Brian’s career, and one that I will never forget.” - Adam McKenzie

“For Jacob’s birthday, Edmonds and I had a cake-off. When we brought our cakes together, it was hilarious to see the comparison. Here comes Edmonds with a half slanted cake, decoration sloshed everywhere. Of course, he had made the cake an hour before the party. The worst part is, though his cake was hideous, it tasted damn good. We declared the competition a draw, for he had style.

What are your career plans? I am working as a Verification and Validation Engineer with a specialization in Human Factors at Bayer Healthcare’s Radiology and Interventional. I am very excited to see where it will take me but am also still very much interested in furniture, product, boat, and interior design.

What’s your favorite part about crew? Seeing the faces in my boat light up after a good race and the sound the boat makes when everyone is rowing together.

Advice for younger rowers: Respect is to be earned. If you want it, prove it.

Fondest Memories from Crew The spring of my freshman year, I coxed the lightweight 8+. The boat was made up of 7 seniors and 1 junior rower. They had so much experience together that they knew exactly what they wanted out of every practice. And although it didn’t always come together perfectly, we strived for the best. I will never forget that type of motivation and seeing everyones face light up from a great last race together at ACRA.

My first time at Head of the Charles, I drove the women’s 8+. We were seated last and had already overtaken a boat immediately after the first bridge. Coming into the second bridge, we were trying to overtake Emory, who was in the process of overtaking another crew. Emory would not yield, so I spoke to my girls, told them to keep their

heads in the boat, said under no circumstances could they stop, and asked them to crank up the power.

We split the two 8’s going through the (2 boat wide) arch. Since we entered with a seat or two up on the

other two boats, we shot out of the bridge, leaving the other two 8’s at a complete stop.

My junior year , Chick- fil - A chose the women’s team to star in their Pursuit of Excellence training video. We spend a few days filming and were given the opportunity to row under a quad-copter. We attached multiple GoPros to the riggers and replaced stroke seat with a camera. We felt like rock stars.

My last year, I took the 4+ back to the Head of the Charles. We had been talking about medalling at this race for months, but not many people believed it was doable. We had several sub-par races just before the Charles but went into that race committed. And we did it. We medalled.
