THE REEL NEWS - March 2020 Page 1 of 11 THE REEL NEWS Volume 26, Issue #4 March 2020 ROYAL SCOTTISH COUNTRY DANCE SOCIETY LONDON, CANADA BRANCH 117 Bournemouth Drive London ON N5V 4T1 www.rscdslondoncanada.org Submissions for the next newsletter can be sent to Pat McClelland by August 5 th , 2020 Chairperson’s Message Margaret Campbell The arrival of Spring is just a few days away, and with it comes lots of opportunities to put a spring in your step and enjoy more dancing. Our monthly dance, the Spring Social, takes place on Friday, March 27 th at Elmwood Church with a full program of spring-themed dances. Wear your “springiest” outfit for a chance to win a prize. That’s followed by our Annual Spring Ball, being held at the Polish Combatants’ Hall on May 2 nd . It’s the highlight of our dance season. You won’t want to miss dressing in your finest and dancing to the music of Scotch Mist. The flyer with registration form is at the end of this newsletter. Then, to round out our social events for the year, the Strawberry Social Tea Dance takes place on Saturday, June 20 th , at Colborne Street United Church. You guessed it, the theme is strawberries and tea served with fine china cups and saucers. Also coming up is the free night of dancing May 6 th at Carling Heights at 7:30 p.m. where we encourage you to invite your friends, family, neighbours, co-workers and anyone who enjoys dancing to try out Scottish Country Dancing for one night. Hopefully they’ll be bitten by the dancing bug and want to join us in September with a membership. Gayle Frisa, our Publicity Coordinator, will be asking for your help shortly to spread the word about the free night with posters and business cards. Don’t forget there are two nights of summer social dancing open to all members on July 15 and August 19 at Carling Heights at 7:30 p.m. Cost is $5 at the door. The Annual General Meeting is on Wednesday, May 13, at Carling Heights at 7:30 p.m. It is important for all members to attend as we’ll review the past year’s activities, confirm new members of the Committee of Management and deal with other items affecting the Branch. An agenda and other documents will be sent to you at least 21 days prior to the meeting. As you know, we have some open positions on the Committee of Management that start in June of this year (contact Helen Bell) and we’re also looking for a Web Administrator to work with Gayle Frisa (see Gayle). We need your help to fill these important positions that contribute so much to the running of the Branch. I’d like to thank Helen Bell for the amazing job she did organizing the Workshop and Tea Dance that was held in February. Her attention to the smallest details helped make this event fun for everyone, including her prayers to Mother Nature for good travelling weather. We had a record number of attendees this year – 92 – and my thanks also go to each and every one of you who supported this event. Our next newsletter will be sent in late August, before we start the new dance year,
