Greetings friends, familyand fellow Red Warriors. 1-12IN is now officially the Force

Protection Battalion, in supportof Train, Advise and AssistCommandSOUTH. We havemerged headquarters withNATO/Coalition Soldiers andmoved our location across thebase. Our final mission will beto set the footprint for our re-placements: 2ndBattalion, 327IN No Slack, 1/101 IBCT, FtCampbell, Kentucky. RC-Southis no longer. COMKAF (HQcommanded by an Air Force

Brigadier General) folded itscolors weeks ago. We are oneof the last few battalions left insouthern Afghanistan. MostSoldiers will soon begin the ex-citing and happy journey backhome to their loved ones at FortCarson Colorado 30 days and

    a wake-up!

As part of the new Opera-tion Resolute Supportwhicheffectively replaces OperationEnduring Freedom here in Af-ghanistan, we inherited AssassinCompany, 4STB within ourranks. These Sappers are doingone heck of a job clearing routeswith Combined Arms Breach-Teams and Blood-hound Teamskeeping our Soldiers safe androutes open for coalition andANSF traffic. We were effec-tively 8 companies strong at onepoint, and now are down to 4

effective companies as we moveinto RIP/TOA with the NoSlack Battalion.

We were also able to con-duct our second NCO Induc-tion Ceremony, whereby weformalized and honored our

newest Sergeants into the Non-Commissioned Officer Corps. We did this in conjunction withthe 153rdBirthday Celebrationof the 12thInfantry Regiment:held here at KAF with a birth-day cake and an organizationalday for all the troopers. I thinkA/2-12 IN won most of theevents, but all had a great timeforgetting about their mission

    The Final Mission (continued)

    I am so very

    proud of our

    Soldiers. They

    have truly done

    their full measure

    of devotion to

    their unit and their

    country.

for a little while and remember-

    ing our fallen comradesthroughout history.

All Soldiers are ready tocome home. Our companieshave been balancing missionwith physical readiness andmarksmanship training. We

(Continued from page 2) have fired Close QuartersMarksmanship ranges, AT-4missiles and all our mortar sys-

tems. Most have hit the gymshard, and are in, what I am toldis, cut phase of their muscularstrength development. Manyentertain thoughts of the Holi-days, block leave, and the up-coming Battalion Ball early nextyear. I do challenge them toremain focused on mission;however.

As we near the end of ourcampaign here in Kandahar, weare forcing our leaders and Sol-

diers to stay strong, stay vigilantand stay switched on. Withour top two priorities beingforce protection and advisingAfghans, we all know that com-placency and setting patternswill get us hurt. Leadership willmake the difference here. I amcounting on uncompromisingSquad Leaders and Platoon Ser-geants to keep our Soldiersstraight these last few days ofcombat. I have charged ourofficers to set the example andset the pace for the incomingteam to replace us. I am so veryproud of our Soldiers. Theyhave truly done their full meas-ure of devotion to their unit andtheir country. The results of ourefforts speak for themselves andwe have made this place moresecure and better than when wehad found it. In doing so, wehave protected the 20,000 soulsliving on KAF and have savedlives in the process.

Once again, I am so thank-ful to you all for your continuedlove, support and prayers. Wewill continue to attack until re-lieved. We are led by love ofcountry.

    See you home soon.

personal and professional goalsoutside of work. Furthermore,a few games of platoon basket-

ing home. This month, we havehighlighted two of our mostoutstanding Soldiers who workhard and set the example fortheir peers on and off mission.

PFC Jacob Kinzel, alsoknown as "3-7 Delta," is fromGrand Blanc, MI. He arrived tothe unit in September 2014,personally selected by the Pla-toon Sergeant. Since his arrival,he has shown nothing but tre-mendous work ethic and has

continued to set the standard forhis peers to follow. During ourdeployment PFC Kinzel hasbeen a dismount saw gunner, adriver, and acted as personalsecurity for senior Non-Commissioned Officers andsenior Officers. His willingnessto learn, eagerness to volunteerfor any extra duties the platoonmay have, and upbeat attitudemake him an irreplaceable assetsto the platoon. The last month has beenvery busy for Assassin Companywith the company conducting

multiple operations supportingthe closure of the remainder ofthe outlying bases in RC-S.Additionally both platoons con-tinue to provide critical dailysupport to CTF RED WARRI-OR with route clearance assetsfor patrols around Kandahar AirField.

The Soldiers and NCOshave adapted extremely well tothe transition from working withthe 704th Brigade Support Bat-

talion to the 1-12 Infantry Bat-talion. In addition to CAB-Tmissions, our squads work di-rectly with infantry platoons, sharing their knowledge andexpertise in Counter ImprovisedExplosive Device tactics whilelearning about the Infantrystactics, techniques, and proce-dures. This unique pairing hasled to both the Engineer andInfantry Soldiers growing intheir capabilities, and has beenan outstanding success. In addi-tion to the work they have ac-complished, the entire company

participated in the 1-12 BN Or-ganizational Day, which consist-ed of several sporting events,

music, and food. It was a greatopportunity for the Soldiers torelax after 7 months in country, and refocus on finishing the lasttwo months strong before rede-ployment.

I would like to congratulateSGT(P) Boyd, who passed theStaff Sergeant board this monthand is now promotable. Addi-tionally, we promoted SPCBrown to Sergeant at the begin-ning of October! Excellent job

by these young NCOs, both area true assets to the Companyand I have no doubt they willcontinue their outstanding per-formance in the future.

As we enter October andour final full month in theater, your Soldiers will be busy settingthe conditions for our incomingreplacements in order to ensurethe transition is as seamless aspossible. HQ Platoon will packup and move the Company

Command Post for the thirdand final time. Both line pla-toons will continue with their

has been a very busy eightmonths and I know all the Sol-diers of Eagle Company areready to start the trip home andre-unite with loved ones. Ourtime in Kandahar is coming to aconclusion, and I cannot nameone person in the company thatis not ready.

Over the past eight monthsthe company has performed avariety of missions, many ofwhich were outside our expecta-

tion, but the dedication andleadership within the companyhas proven that Eagle Companycan and will accomplish anymission given. Distro Platoonhas concluded its mission asSECFOR and has begun turningin vehicles and prepping thecompany for re-deployment.Maintenance Platoon is in theprocess of transitioning its mis-sion over to the civilian contrac-tors on post. The Platoon willstill be responsible for recovery

operations throughout our re-maining time but the work loadhas decreased, allowing morepersonal time. HeadquartersPlatoon continues to movealong and administratively keepthe company operational. Ourfood service section flawlesslyexecuted the recent Battalionorganization day and providedan amazing grilled dinner foreveryone.

The last few weeks will befocused on turning equipmentin, transitioning maintenance, and preparing the incoming unitfor success. All are signs ofprogression and an end to ourcurrent deployment. The workof Eagle Company Soldiersthroughout the deployment hasbeen nothing short of amazing! Iam constantly impressed by thededication and teamworkamongst everyone and the ability
