Vick let one fly and nailed Desean Jackson in full sprint for an 88 yard touchdown. That game Vick ran for two touchdowns making the Redskins look slow. Hall of Famer Mike Ditka quoted “Unbelievable, like a man playing with boys.” A tweet from Arizona Cardinal’s defensive tackle Darnell Dockett read, “Vick so good, he got dogs cheering for him.” The next day a New Jersey women walked her bulldog in a shirt that read MICHAEL VICK: NEVER FORGET.

If you want to know the story of Michael Vick, well it started in 2001. Vick was the first pick of the 2001 NFL draft. The Atlanta Falcons chose him. A year later Vick and 3 friends started a dog fighting operation. Vick bought a 15 – acre piece of land. A white brick house with a pool and a basket ball court was what it looked like. But beyond that were some woods. In the woods were five sheds, all painted black, even the windows and doors. If you kept going, you would see wire cages and wood dog houses. Beyond that (the woods kept getting thicker) were two half buried car axles. Vick never intended to live there. Instead, he created a dog fighting operation.

In April 2007, local and state authorities shut down the operation. They found 51 pit bulls. They gave Vick a 19 month prison term, and he’s not allowed to own a canine of any type. His football career looked dim. After the prison term, he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. But the Eagles already had Donovan McNabb, next in line was Kevin Kolb. But the head coach Andy Reid wanted to give Vick a second chance. His two sons, Britt and Garret, had problems with drugs for years. For two years Reid spent every Thursday visiting them in prison. Reid told former Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy, who mentored Vick in prison, “I know what it’s like to have young people who make mistakes and feel they’ve changed, and no one gives them a chance. I don’t want to be that way. If that guy has changed and is looking for a second chance, I want to do it.”

In 2010, after McNabb got traded to the Redskins, and Kevin Kolb got hurt. Vick became the Eagles starting Quarterback. Defenses fear him for not only his amazingly talented arm, but also for his ability to run. Defenses don’t know what to do. When he was on the Falcons he relied on his talents. Now he goes into the tape room, he does the things he needs to do to become the most amazing player he can be. And whether you like him or not he’s an amazing player.

Your water bowl has algae in it. You see horrible sights. You go through torture every day. You are a Michael Vick dog.

Dogs that were too young to fight, were kept for fighters to practice on. They are called bait dogs. These dogs were kept in the woods chained to the car axles. Vick would sometimes make two young dogs fight to see which dogs were good fighters. If they could fight, they got training sessions and vitamins. The dogs that couldn’t fight got killed by a gun, drowning, electrocution, hanging, or being slammed to the ground repeatedly.

When the operation was busted, 51 pit bulls were found. Few of them could be trained not to be dangerous anymore. All pit bulls are great pets, but when they’re not trained properly, they look vicious and can be dangerous.

Vick was a dog fighter and some people will never forget that. They know he is a great football player, but they don’t care. He hurt dogs and even killed them. They ask, who would do that? They ask, should he even be allowed in the NFL? Sometimes people make shirts or posters showing their hate for Michael Vick. They do not believe Vick is sincerely sorry for his crimes. They think his heart is not in it when he speaks against dog fighting.

Then on the other hand, you have people willing to forgive his crimes. “Young people make mistakes,” they say. They think he is an amazing player. They root for him. Cheer for him. They think he honestly feels really bad for what he did.

But no matter what other people say it’s up to you. So Vick a side.

What Is Dog Fighting?

Dog fighting is a crime where people make dogs fight, sometimes even to the death. It is a form of gambling, they bet on certain dogs to win. Sometimes it can be used for entertainment. But dogs will get tortured and die. They put the dogs in a small pit with plywood walls around it. Fights can last for one hour hour up to two hours. Owners train their dogs to become stronger, faster, bigger.

They will also make their teeth sharper, so they will become more dangerous. They do all this so the dogs become better fighters and they will win more money from gambling.

This illegal crime is what dog fighting is. So why do it? To win money? It hurts dogs, even kills some, all for money.
