Residents like you have been working together for Upper Horfield

read on to find out what they have been doing so far.

The first public meeting of the Upper Horfield Residents‟ Action Group

(RAG) met on Thursday 10th November to agree the main priorities for

action in the area. These were:-

Sorting out the new CCTV system in Poets Park

Campaigning to get a pedestrian crossing provided at the junction

of Toronto Road and Gloucester Road North

Securing a future for the YR Youth Club at Eden Grove

Improving the cleanliness of our streets

Thirty residents were at the first meeting and a steering group has been

formed to ensure the group continues to campaign for action in the estate.

What is really encouraging is that Upper Horfield was well represented at the recent Horfield Neighbourhood Forum meeting thanks to RAG members and

the issues above were all put forward strongly and were taken away by the

local councillors and council officers at the meeting. By working in this way

we can start to see Upper Horfield residents having a strong voice so our

issues are clearly communicated to those who are in a position of being able

to help.

As well as campaigning for action, the Upper Horfield RAG is bringing a little

Christmas cheer to the area too and is pleased to announce a Christmas

Carol and Mulled „wine‟ event at 6:30pm on Saturday 17th December in Poets

Park (at the bottom of Shelley Way), BS7 0PZ. Please bring your lanterns

along as we want to give the event a real Christmas feeling. If you are able to

donate some mince pies too that would be very much appreciated by

everyone. Remember, it is us, the residents of Upper Horfield, who can make

the estate a great place to live b y mucking in together and showing everyone

what we are capable of!

Finally, after the idea was put forward by some RAG members, we have been

offered sponsorship from the Upper Horfield Community Trust to have a

Christmas Tree put up in Poets Park – this is now in the hands of Bristol City

Council Parks Dept. who, at the time of going to print, have agreed to source

a tree and get it planted in time for the Carol event on the 17th December.

So, Upper Horfield RAG is your local group and it‟s all about getting involved

to create the kind of place we all want to live in – we can do so much by

working together and rolling up our sleeves – if we wait around for other

people to sort out our problems we may be a long time waiting. But we do

thank those who are more than willing to help us do the things we want to

do, but the most important ingredients are local folk!
