Thoughts shared by Lee Del Vecchio, Co-Lay Leader,
on Laity Sunday with the congregation
It is a pleasure to be with you today on this Laity Sunday. I feel it is an honor to be Co-Lay Leader and
serve this church in our Christian journey together.
We come together every week, all of us are different from one another. All, have different jobs and
degrees. We have quite an assortment from lawyers to teachers. We have a professor, musician, nurses,
office workers and factory workers. No matter what walk of life or profession you have chosen, we all have
one thing in common and that is our LOVE of Christ and our Christian journey.
Our Christian education should be our most important, for that is the one that molds our lives. As we
turn to our faith for many decisions, we have to make it sustain us in our work place and our home life. It
started for me in my Sunday school classes. I learned compassion, thankfulness, kindness and giving early in
my life from my parents and my church. Our church education starts with the teaching of Christ when we
are young. We sing “Jesus Loves Me”. We learn the Lord’s Prayer, the Ten Commandments, the Affirmation
of Faith, the 23rd Psalm. We learn the love of God in Genesis. In John, we learn we are all one together.
We learn that God loves us so much that he gave His only Son. He loves us that much. To me that
was such a learning experience. Good Friday is very meaningful to me.
Out faith can be put into life stages: Childhood, Youth and, finally, Maturity. Our God is a God of love.
We try to follow him and try to put his teachings into our daily lives, no matter what vocation you have
taken. The love of God that you have received has motivated you to extend his love to our church. I have
said before, love lives in this church. It is just so evident in how you serve this church in the many different
positions and duties. Committee meetings, endless hours of reports, budget meetings and so many deci-
sions that have to be made by our choir director and her many duties, our choirs and their weekly practice
and service, our faithful ushers and Sanctuary Angels. In this church we have so many people doing just
what Christ wants us to do as we extend ourselves to the community as his disciples.
The more you know the depth of God’s love for you, the more your love for others will be deeper.
Once God’s love fills you, it will flow to others. And that is exactly what is happening here at Fairfield Grace.
You are passing and sharing your love from GOD TO ALL. Our church may be small, but our love and caring

would fill a big church.
We work together in all our plans and ideas and spreading our wings to the surrounding
community by sharing what we have learned here at the church. Being kind, caring and bringing
love that we have from God to ALL people.
“We are here to love God and to love one another”.
God said “Your task is to build a better world”. I answered “How? The world is such a large
place, so complicated now and I am so small and useless. There is nothing I can do.” But, God in all
his wisdom said “Just build a better you.” Amen.

IT’S COMING…
2019 Consecration Sunday Is Coming
Congregations that approach financial stewardship from a biblical perspective do not view the money Christians give to their church merely as a way to pay its bills. Rather, such congregations see financial con-tributions as a way to help people grow spiritually in their relationship with God by supporting their church’s mission and ministry with a percentage of their incomes.
Our congregation’s finance/stewardship teams have selected the New Consecration Sunday Stewardship Program, once again, as a way to teach the biblical and spiritual principles of generous giving in our stew-ardship education emphasis this year.
New Consecration Sunday is based on the biblical philosophy of the need of the giver to give for his or her own spiritual development, rather than on the need of the church to receive. Instead of treating people like members of a social club who should pay dues, we will treat people like followers of Jesus Christ who want to give unselfishly as an act of discipleship. New Consecration Sunday encourages people toward propor-tionate and systematic giving in response to the question, “What percentage of my income is God calling me to give?”
During morning worship on Consecration Sunday on November 24th, we are asking our attendees and members to make their financial commitments to our church’s missionary, benevolent, and educational ministries in this community and around the world.
Every attendee and member who completes an Estimate of Giving Card does so voluntarily by attending morning worship on Consecration Sunday. We urge people to attend who feel strongly opposed to com-pleting a card. The procedure is done in such a way that no one feels personal embarrassment if he or she chooses not to fill out a card.
We will do no home solicitation to ask people to complete cards. During morning worship our guest leader will conduct a brief period of instruction and inspiration, climaxed by members making their commitments as a confidential act of worship.
We will encourage participation in Consecration Sunday events through the Consecration Sunday team and church council members. Since we will make no follow-up visits to ask people to complete their cards, we will make every effort to inform, inspire, and commit everyone to attend Consecration Sunday worship.
Thanks in advance for your enthusiastic participation in Consecration Sunday events.

Consider a Bequest to Fairfield Grace in Your Will
Your gifts to Fairfield Grace ensure the means to continue the mission and ministry of the church into the fu-
ture. Members and friends are encouraged to make a bequest in a Will to benefit the church or specific minis-
tries of the church.
Ways to designate the amount of your bequest:
Specific Dollar Amount,
I give, devise and bequest to Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church located at 1089 Fairfield Woods
Road Fairfield, CT the sum of ________ dollars ($ _______) {or specifically described personal or real
property} for its general uses and purposes. [The bequest can also designate
specific ministries or purposes for its use.]
Specific Percentage,
I give; devise and bequest to Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church located at 1089 Fairfield Woods
Road Fairfield, CT an amount equal to ___ percent (__ %) of the value of my gross or net estate, both
real and personal for its general uses and purposes. [The bequest can also designate specific ministries
or purposes for its use.]
Residual Bequest,
I give; devise and bequest to Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church located at 1089 Fairfield Woods
Road Fairfield, CT the entire residue of my estate, both real and personal for its general uses and
purposes. [The bequest can also designate specific ministries or purposes for its use.]
The bequest can be added as a codicil/attachment to your current Will. If you don’t have a Will the State of
Connecticut will determine who receives your estate after your death. Anyone that owns a house should have a
Will if they know who they want to receive their remaining estate. It will also keep the cost of settling the
estate down.
(These are suggestions and should be approved by your attorney.)
