THE PUMA POSTVOLUME 2 - NO.9- 12th December 2015

THIS WEEKS GAME REPORTS

First Grade loss the toss away at Burwood Briars and were asked to bat on a pitch that had a little bit of moisture in it. The Pumas didn’t get off to the best start with the Pumas being 2/8 in the second over. Wickets then continued to fall at regular intervals to leave the Pumas 7/76 at the tea break with the top scorer being Barrett with 17. The last three wickets added 30 before the Pumas were bowled out for a disappointing 106 in 45 overs. The Burwood Briars batsman came out in an aggressive manner and some poor bowling allowed Burwood to get off to a fl yer reaching 0/70 without loss before a fl urry of wickets were taken before the close on day one. Burwood closed on 6/127 having passed the Pumas score for the loss of three wickets. Naibkhil, 2, Pardesi, Sandhu, 2 and Shaukat with the 6 wickets that fell. At the start of day two quick wickets were needed to try and help the Pumas from avoiding an outright loss. Sandra took a wicket in the fi rst over and Niabkhil backed it up in the second over but it didn’t get any easier for the Pumas as dropped catches and some explosive batting saw Burwood declare at 8/203 with the Pumas 97 behind. Pardesi, was out fi rst ball of the second innings and the Pumas were immediately under pressure. Barrett and

Kendall then took the score to 2/36 and Beadle and Kendall saw the Pumas through to tea. Beadle then had to retire out which bought Sproule to the crease. Kendall was then unfortunate to be caught at leg slip off an inside edge to effectively leave the Pumas 4/64. Wickets then fell regularly with Sproule the only other batsman to make double fi gures. The Pumas were all out for 102 leaving Burwood 6 to win which they reached in the fi rst over. A disappointing performance all round saw the Pumas fi rst defeat of the season.

In second grade Burwood won the toss and elected to bat at Penno Oval. The Pumas made an early breakthrough with the score on 13 via Pardesi but a good recovery from Burwood took the score 61 before a run out from Hussain got the breakthrough. The next wicket came via the bowling of Trewin with Burwood 3/103 this was then followed by a partnership of 38 before N. Azzimi took a wicket. Younan and Trewin then backed it up with a couple of quick wickets to leave the innings in the balance with Burwood 6/174. However a partnership of 50 took the score to 6/224 at the close of play. Burwood batted on at the start of day two to a score of 6/256

FIRST EVER PUMAS CUB CLINIC CONTINUES ....

The inaugural Puma U7 clinic Continues at Ruddock Park, Westleigh on every Saturday….

The clinic will continue to be at Ruddock Park from 9am to 10:30 am for the rest of the season. Parents, coaches and especially all the kids had a ball. Particular thanks the 3rd and 4th Graders who came on board as assistant coaches. Also Anne-Marie has proven to be an excellent Cub registrar. We are up to 15 little Puma Cubs learning the skills of cricket. Everybody welcome by contacting [email protected] or 0450226158.

SHIRES COMPETITION The two day round against Burwood did not prove fruitful for the club we were beaten outright in 1st and 3rd grade and 2nd and 4th grade lost on fi rst innings. Penno were unlucky in 2nd grade losing the last wicket on the fi nal ball of the day and in third grade the outright loss came with two overs to spare on the last day. Generally the club’s batting failed under the relentless pressure of Burwood’s line and length of its medium pace bowling, a bowling lesson which our club has to take on board. It is believed that it is an attitude problem with our batting with most batsman failing to knuckle down and occupy the crease. This certainly was not the case in 2nd and 4th grade who put up spirited fi ght.We will regroup at training this week with a view to a tough one day round against Georges River and its battery of fast swing bowling.

FrankGraybefore declaring. The Pumas did not get off to

the best start being 5/44 and 6/51. The challenge from there was to save the game and the Pumas batted admirably for 68 overs only to be bowled all out off the last ball of the day. The Pumas showed great fi ght and were unfortunate to lose the game but the top order will want to perform better next week.

Having won the toss the Pumas decided to bat but did not get off to the best start being 5/27 before McDonald, 30 and Gade, 14 steadied the ship to take the Pumas to 6/68. Yet wickets fell in quick succession again and the Pumas were all out for 86. Burwood batted well to reach 8/216. The wickets being taken by Afridi, 3/50, Sharmieh, 3/53, Gade, 1/37 and Akbari, 1/26. The top order failed once again for the Pumas with the score 4/24 trying to save the game. Aslam top scored with 43, but only McDonald, 15 and Sharmeih, 15 were the only other players to reach double fi gures and the Pumas were bowled out for 102.

Having lost the toss Fourth Grade were asked to fi eld against Burwood. The Burwood batting was strong and the Pu-mas struggled to take wickets in clusters with Burwood having partnerships all the way through their batting. They declared at 6/280 with the wickets being taken by Olsen, 2/59, Atienzo, 2/40, Singh, 1/46 and Phoebus, 1/44. The Pumas needed to bat well if they were to have any chance of saving the game. Unfortunately the Pumas folded in the fi rst innings being bowled out for 92 in 24 overs with Singh top scoring with 34. They were now under serious pressure to avoid an outright defeat, but the Pumas rallied together and put together a solid batting performance to fi nish 6/164. Madhray, 27, Rana, 45, Atienzo, 28 and Singh, 27 the leading scorers.

Pennant Hills Shires Cricket Club demolished Roseville CC last Sunday when the 2 teams clashed in round 3 of the under 24s Sydney Cricket Association’s Frank Gray Shield at Pennant Hills oval.

At one stage Pumas Fast bowler Sarib Hussain captured 5-0 and was a on hat trick twice in a hostile display which saw Roseville bundled out for 69 on a true Penno wicket. In reply Pen-nant Hills strolled to 1-70 winning in 17 overs of the 50 overs game gaining a valuable bonus point in the pro-cess.

Local player Captain Tom Sproule led the way for the home side with 29 n.o. with his UKLeicestershire County team mate Joe Kendall on 32 n.o.
