    us at the Austin

Get ready folks, as I will be

announcing the date very soon for

the first ever FRED MCKENZIESTORYTELLING FESTIVAL

    that I envision featuring great

    author storytellers, a storytelling

    contest, time for Fred McKenzie

stories, and also a story writing

contest for all the area children.

The festival will involve rockers on

    porches, a BICYCLE PARADE for

LITERACY, (Fred's bicycle built fortwo was legendary in all the parades),

but best of all, it will be a celebration of

one of historic Jefferson, Texas most

    colorful and literary characters, actor,

    author, pilot, bookstore owner,

    historian, my friend Fred McKenzie!

    So who was Fred McKenzie?

    Fred McKenzie was my former

bookseller and author with whom I

shared a building with. A hallway

    separated Fred McKenzies Books on

the Bayou store and my Beauty and the

Book shop. During quiet times in the

shop, I would hop across the hall and

plop down in a folding chair situated

in front of Freds desk. I spent many

    wonderful days visiting with my

    80+ year old friend. Unfortunately,

Fred passed away several years ago

at the young age of 90. Nothing

would please me more than tocreate a literary event in historic

Jefferson, Texas in his honor. Stay

    tuned for more details!
